  1. Best Playable Elderly Folk In Games?

Putting in support for Grumpos from Anachronox.
  2. GTA V

I've also noticed several writers I follow on twitter saying similar things to the effect of "I know I am doing a good job when I write something that makes people angry." I am really concerned with this viewpoint, because I don't see it as being any different than someone in the comments section trying to say something hyperbolic simply to generate a response.
  3. GTA V

As an extricated piece of work I found Leigh's review, especially when read aloud, to be pretty funny, but I also agree with you. In the context that it is intended I don't think it is effective except in generating praise from people who already agree with her. I want to at least experience GTA V, because I cannot believe it is completely devoid of anything worth appreciating. I think I've changed my mind.
  4. Too cool for leisure?

It is 8:42PM and I am still working. I have to be up at 5:00AM for my job. Tweets and posts about great movies and books and video games for babies dance around my head like little hedonistic demons. I must resist them. Who else is too busy for free time? Tell me your stories of how you have become a workaholic extraordinaire.
  5. Too cool for leisure?

I feel the same way regarding goals and standards, and even though I still have to work a job and do my own game development on the side it is nice to know I am not the only one who feels the constant pressure. Do you have a link to your portfolio of work? I am wondering if I know you from somewhere.
  6. Too cool for leisure?

So irony of ironies, the morning after I made this post I received an email saying the project I was working on had been "shelved indefinitely" so when I got home from work I basically played War of the Roses and read David Foster Wallace books until I passed out. That being said, I am actively concerned that if I don't find a way to make my work time more efficient I will run int the same problem again where I am working all the time and am too exhausted to produce god work in any area.
  7. While I agree that in some ways it is better, I wonder if forcing out those who are acting vile and disgusting doesn't just creates an alternative to the "don't read the comments" situation where the only people making comments are saying absolutely awful things. If they don't learn or, as I've seen often, double down on their own viewpoints, won't they simply go off to found some kind of insular support community for their own terrible viewpoint? Sending people away in the hope of punishing them into acting appropriately is part of the reason our prison system has such a high recidivism rate.
  8. Ruining Children's Minds with Marketing

Now I want to play Crossfire so badly.
  9. 7 Tips for Dating A Gamer!

One weird trick for dating the person who writes the fluff on magic cards. Magic card fluff text sometimes feels like the weird twitter of card games.
  10. Feminism

MC Frontalot weighed in on the subject and I think his thoughts are worth a close reading. https://plus.google.com/app/basic/stream/z13hi5shzlatzh5dk23wzdyznwesx3hx304
  11. I still really need to play The Witcher 2. Perhaps it is the Far Cry 2 of the Citizen Kanes of Video Games? Honestly, it was incredibly cathartic to hear from people I respect immensely that most every game starts out terrible. I am currently volunteering on a project with a bunch AAA-folks and somehow I wound up the designer. We just played our first build and I was up until 12 A.M. (I get to work at 5 A.M.) frantically trying to figure out how to make our not fun video game fun. I still have no clue, but it's nice to know I am not alone.
  12. Feminism

Perhaps, but I am under the impression most people don't actively go looking for the fault and flaws in people in order to force them to change. Only when problems were uncovered did people demand Mike to change. In my hypothetical the organizer wouldn't impart any cultural norms or personal views onto the event itself. It's probably a stupid idea but I wonder a lot about the strange ways of brains categorize good and bad groups.
  13. Looking for new laptop for Unity3D, Blender

Be on the lookout for refurbished models at Amazon warehouse.
  14. Feminism

Would we as a group feel more comfortable with a convention run by anonymous organizers? I wonder if that is the only way to avoid this happening in the future.
  15. Feminism

It is also the reason why I like it so much, but I am not sure if the ethics of this community could survive a scaling up to the size of something like PAX.
  16. Feminism

Do you think it's actually possible to create a space like that, or would it simply expose other more deeply-hidden prejudices?
  17. Feminism

I personally experienced some of the gross sexism of the industry when my wife and I were out to dinner with some devs on Sunday night. At two separate times over the span of just a couple hours both one of the devs we were having dinner with and another female dev we met were met with jokes and comments that were unbelievably sexist. I was very happy when both of these women stood up for themselves. One of them even said it was the first time they had ever done that, and they were emboldened by other women speaking out at PAX. The problem was, both of the men looked to me for confirmation. It was dumbfounding to me how completely inconsequential they seemed to perceive the objections of another human being simply because they looked female.

I think we need PETMAN to run a gamer conference so we don't have to be concerned about its perspective on issues of morality and ethics until it achieves sentience and murders us all.
  19. PAX Prime 2013

Any time you are up in Seattle, it doesn't have to be PAX.
  20. PAX Prime 2013

I just want to say thanks so much to Argobot, Squid Division, SecretAsianMan, and all the rest of the Thumbs I met for making it a wonderful first PAX. Especially SecretAsianMan and his batter-powered backpack. He is the raddest of dudes.
  21. PAX Prime 2013

I was thinking that a good way of coordinating where to meet might be for all of us to connect on Google+. They have a pretty great locations service where you can share your location on the fly with certain people or circles. If we started a PaxThumbs circle and connected we could all meetup without having to send tweets of photos and street signs. Best way to reach me is also twitter - @dualhammers
  22. PAX Prime 2013

    Happy travels!
  23. PAX Prime 2013

Is the Indie After-Party only open to devs?
  24. PAX Prime 2013

I have loaded that image into my phone and will be waiting there at 7.
