  1. Weird. Maybe my computer isn't properly grounded or something. If I used the 3.5mm jack it would sound fine (still not as good as a nice pair of headphones), but when I plugged them into the USB soundcard thing everything sounded like it was a lower bit-rate. Who knows why.

60 HZ DAYDREAM is difficult to examine because the flickering is so abrasive. I think I may try to record a play-through in hopes of being able to see how different the experience is on various monitors. It hasn't given me a headache yet, but every time I play it, I expect it to. I enjoy the exploration and discovery of the various scenes and soundtracks. It's not similar to tuning a radio-station, but it feels like a similar kind of thing. As I'm going through trying to see each of the scenes, I notice how some are more difficult to isolate due to the varying ease of reaching their trigger. I felt a sense of accomplishment when I got to see the fish alone after eventually figuring out how to guide the bug(?) to the ladybug-shell(?) without the fish reaching the grass.
  3. You can give feedback on my game whereever you like. There is commenting in on the itch.io page and/or you can tell me how clever the winking part is in this thread. I don't have a devlog.
  4. The hyperx (first series) has no audio-controls such as volume and mute on the headset itself. The hyperx2s sounded like crap on my machine when I plugged them into the usb-adapter for volume control and "surround-sound". They also felt painful for me to wear because they squeeze kinda hard on my head. They might be the best gaming-headsets out there for all I know. I quickly realized that I'd much prefer a good pair of headphones even though the mic part is inconvenient.

I initiated the master-challenge for Dekker because I am going to be rolling as her for a while and I had the reputation-points to do it. So I'll have the low down on what that does eventually. Also, last-hitting is hard. I made a deck focusing on damage, but now I'm thinking of focusing on attack-speed so I have more chances to get the last-hit. It's a neat little mini-game. Optimization seems like it would feel like work, but oddly I'm enjoying my inner-debate between damage, attack-speed, and critical-hit chance.
  6. When I think of sanding-the-edges-off, I think of removing potentials. For me, Black Ops III is a good example of sanding-the-edges-off because there are a lot of places on the maps that the ability-set would conceptually allow for, but the map-designers blocked a lot of those areas off with invisible walls (assumably in order to avoid exploits). I didn't play a ton of Overwatch during the beta, but I got the opposite impression from it; everything I thought I should be able to do, I could. I was genuinely surprised by the places Widowmaker, Pharah, Diva, and the death-guy could go. Finding out that Genji's deflect can deflect pretty much anything is another example of what I percieve as a sharp-edge. Sanding the edges off would be like maxing out McCree's ultimate at two enemies, or not allowing Mei to contribute to capture when frozen in her ice-shell. I can see how TF2's dependency on a world-physics system could allow for a exploits that turn into accepted tactics after reading Dinosaursssssss's description, but I speculate that there is a lot of potential (especially in team-coordination of abilities) in Overwatch. For instance, Mei can lift teammates up to otherwise inaccessible places with her ice-wall.
  7. The Big VR Thread

Sketchfab now has webvr support. https://blog.sketchfab.com/announcing-sketchfab-vr-apps-webvr-support/ I haven't tried it out yet, but this seems like it will be really convenient.
  8. Laughing Thumbs: Stand-Up Recommendations

What would be a good podcast to find stand up comedians on?
  9. Game Critique Club (Round 2.5)

psyched. edit: I don't know much about epilepsy, but I would think that what I just saw when I opened the program would trigger it. 2nd edit: yeah, this is pretty interesting.
  10. So, apparently Genji can deflect Hanzo's ultimate. I think that is so cool.
  11. Laughing Thumbs: Stand-Up Recommendations

Whenever I think of stand-up comedy, I think of Steven Wright. I love magical-realism and vocal-fry.
  12. [HELP NEEDED] Mario Fan Mail Solicitation

Are you looking for sincerity or kinda funny and conflated?
  13. [RELEASE] Rigid Body Rat King

Happy Happy Krampusnacht was great. I really enjoyed finding the place where all the naughty children were hanging out.
  14. [Release] Life as a Dung Beetle

It might be rude to say that I like the art after it's been described as placeholder-art, but I like the look. I'll probably like the new one too.
  15. Gosh it would be great if you could find someone who knows a ton about fonts. All I know is that I'm supposed to never use Comic-Sans unless I'm being ironic.
  16. [Release] Computer Processing Unit

    What tools are you using?
  17. Paragon (lane pusher)

Not sure if this is still relevant, but here's a break-down of how how sharing cardXP broke down in early April and what it meant for team-strategies. https://www.epicgames.com/paragon/blog/card-power-sharing-and-the-deathball
  18. Paragon (lane pusher)

Maybe the stuff I was reading is out of date? Betas, amirite?
  19. Paragon (lane pusher)

I just found out that if you last-hit minions, then you get 100 cardXP rather than 20 (if they are killed by minions or towers) and that all that cardXP is shared equally with teammates nearby.
  20. [RELEASE] The Eyes of Luigi

Thanks for putting these updates here for reading through. It's neat to see the progress. I especially like how Luigi can't seem to keep still.
  21. Pinball Club

I'm on Steam, I'll add you.
  22. Paragon (lane pusher)

We've been having a great time playing a coop vs. A.I. match about once a day. My wife is pretty happy playing as Gadget and I've started getting into Feng Mao. I'm not a very good jungler, but I enjoy trying. I still get lost in the jungle a lot. Usually my wife finds a lane she doesn't have to compete for XP on and I run around the jungle if there isn't an empty lane. Then when she sees an opportunity for a gank, push, or needs to escape she will call me over. It's fun. We are winning these A.I. matches around 25 minutes in if everyone on our team is playing. We just got to the point where we are starting to really think about our custom decks.
  23. Fan Fiction

I just discovered the term "Mary Sue". I was hoping we could discuss it. Then I realized that fanfic is a mycelium in this community and so it deserves a thread that focuses on it. Here is an especially succinct Wikpedia entry on Mary Sue characters. First of all, Mass Effect's Shepard is going to cause problems because you can pick your gender. As the criticism in the Wikipedia article points out, "Mary Sue" is a gendered pejorative, "Marty Sue" doesn't fix the problem, and the concept is incredibly valuable so a short-hand term like this is a good idea. "Cipher" seems like a good solution, so I'll use that term. This concept, and the small amount of context of which I have just become aware, is a particularly accessible entrance into a discussion of what fanfic is. Much like "hipsters", when I type it into Youtube's search-bar, I find an infinite scroll of derision. I'm not judging; I know that it can be fun to hate something together, but I think it is worthwhile to note how popular it is to make fun of fanfic. When I read the Wikipedia entry for "Mary Sue", I was struck by how well this concept described the tendency in action-movies and computer-games to create empowered characters that were devoid of anything but superiority and dominance. Is there a connection? Are Call of Duty, DieHard, and "A Trekkie's Tale" filling similar needs? Also, it seems obvious to me that a big part of what makes fanfic valuable is the exchange of creative agency from the author to the audience. Put simply, fanfic is for writing more than it is for reading. "A Trekkie's Tale" is lacking in its narrative, but the idea of a disempowered cipher in an established fictional world is intriguing to me. I love the idea of turning a passive medium into an impetus for a creative endeavor. Hopefully, by the end of the day, I will try my hand at fanfic.
