  1. It certainly seems to be intended as commentary... on first person shooters.
  2. Yeah, I think it's broken. I keep getting something that looks like some twine code " $20000 is $cash eq"
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

Maybe she's the one who can show you how to love filth. Nothing makes me feel more like a douche-bag than assuming the details of other people's challenges, but here I go: If she doesn't shave her arm-pits, she's probably a winner. If she doesn't floss, then it's a safety issue and you can SAVE HER!
  4. What are the shopkeepers like in NetHack?
  5. You'll love Spelunky.
  6. Maybe the solution is to fill the crates with ball-bearings and the jars with liquids. Next-gen ram Baby; going to solve all these problems.
  7. New people: Read this, say hi.

Do you notice your political views affecting your perspective on any particular computer games? For me, Greed Corp was like playing a cartoon version of my personal nightmare. I tend to favor environmental protections over what I see as a military-industrial-complex paradigm. Greed Corp presented a wonderful visual hyperbole of this for me.
  8. Spelunky!

So something happened (I don't know what), and my wife got interested in Spelunky HD. Not only is it horrendously fun to watch her play (pro-tip, say nothing unless asked a specific question), but we started playing the adventure-mode co-op. It's really fun. I especially like the strategic decisions of how to split up items from the shop. Things like "You get the cape because you have more rope to send up." Now that I think of it, I wonder if the person with the cape still floats when holding the other player. that's worth noting too; there are a few new interactions to learn when you have multiple players. They aren't explicitly mentioned, it's just that sometimes I do things that have worked well in single player and realize that having a second player on the screen can change the result. I don't want to mention any because it's fun to kill each other on accident in new and innovative ways. Worth checking out local multiplayer if possible.
  9. Hey guys (and gals?), I'm new to these parts.

Hey. I'm Clyde. Have you made any observations about a particular game or games in general that you are longing to discuss? Also, I'm a big fan of the "New Content" button on the forum. I recommend using it to keep track of discussions. Took me a while to figure out how convenient it was.
  10. What happens if they break the pot while you are it? Does it burst into thousands of pieces that then turn back into their human form, body-parts and armor strewn about the stone floor? If not, then that game is bullshit.
  11. I had never heard anyone mention the concept of taxing standing armies until your discussion of Civilization V. What a great idea. I'm looking forward to researching whether or not there is a history of trying to impliment this plan.
  12. Thinking three moves ahead

Are you asking for turn-based computer games where it pays off to prepare for counter-attacks? Am I simplifying your question too much?
  13. Thinking three moves ahead

Banner Saga: Factions has a lot of opportunity for this type of thing. It's free and multiplayer only. A lot of the tactics involve identifying the most powerful possible tactic of the enemy player and then determining a way to nerf it before it can be used. I think that most people probably do play it one move at a time, but anyone who thinks two rounds ahead (meaning each party member is moved twice) has a massive advantage. I suppose that isn't three moves though.
  14. Feel free to elaborate, I'm interested. In the few reviews I could find, I couldn't tell if the personal interactions with characters were unnatural or if the reviewers just didn't like being disliked by the characters.
  15. Oculus rift

Is it playable without the oculus rift?
  16. Oculus rift

So how is it? Do you go off any sweet jumps? Does it feel similar to the rollercoasters?
  17. Oculus rift

    I want to play it.
  18. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

    This is nice. Thanks.
  19. I'm glad we are discussing all these interesting subjects: -Why aren't there more courtship and romance themed games that depend on well-authored assets? -Why aren't there more courtship and romance themed games that depend heavily on systemic representation of personalities and personal interactions? -Are games centered on romance, commercially viable? -What are the different design challenges between making a game romance for a silent protagonist, and for a heavily authored player-character? -What is the relationship between the scope of player-perspective and suspension of disbelief when dealing with interactive representations of personal relationships. I'm obviously an idealist. Once Versu comes out on Android, I'm going to be able to play it and then I'm going to come back on to this forum and make an argument that encourages the skeptics among you to politely remove your hats and then proceed to eat them. Then Milo and I are going to elope and live happily ever after. Emily Short has a bunch of stuff about how the AI in Versu is designed on her blog and I recommend reading it for an example of how someone is trying to represent interpersonal relationships in a believable way. I don't have an ipad so it could be wonky like every other attempt.
  20. Let's Draw Video Games

I want to see these improperly drawn stick men. Make sure there are some floating platforms and some power-ups to keep in relevant to the thread though.
  21. I suspect that there is more complexity in world events over the period of centuries than there is complexity in the personal relationships of four or five friends. Yet Civilization has come out with five games that people enjoy. I don't find anything sacred about friendship and love as a subject for systemic representation. It doesn't have to be perfect. Civilization has massive incompletions in its design and it plays differently than other civilization based games. The systems in these games are particular perspectives that are not necessarily predictive of real life, but thought provoking and expressive. I would expect the same to be true for relationship games. No one is saying that a film can't express love in all its complexity and so romance movies shouldn't be made. Well actually, I say that sometimes, but when i do, I'm wrong. As far as commercial viability, I'm no marketing executive, but the amount of fan-fare that the Bioware games have received for putting incredibly simplistic romance and friendship systems in their games seems symptomatic of an incredible appetite for this stuff. But I imagine that in order to make the cash, a studio would need to build a reputation for making romance games well, because as of now, everyone knows that romance games suck.
  22. Let's Draw Video Games

This one implies more of a narrative than your others. I like that.
  23. I have no idea. Do you have more details? What is conditional to the "and/elses solution"? Is the appearance of a new page conditional or is it the appearance of a passage on that page?
  24. FTL

    How did he die?
  25. I'm working in Sugarcane, so if you get stuck there, feel free to post here and I might be able to help. Right now, I'm just making branching pages and a few passages that are conditional. But if you get stuck on something specific, maybe I can point out something you might have missed.
