I played on M+K, but modified the controls to use more of a WASD setup than the point-and-click default, because I found that a lot more intuitive. I have a feeling that a controller would be ideal though.

Finished this yesterday! Total masterpiece. Everything worked together perfectly. There are parts of Transistor that still cut a bit deeper for me (the ability customization and music, basically) but overall, I think this is Supergiant's best game by a good margin. Certainly their fullest and most engrossing. I loved the setting and characters, loved the Rites gameplay and was incredibly impressed by how responsive to player choice it is. I kinda want to jump right back in and play it again.

I've never run D&D on Roll20, so I'm not sure how I would do that. There's probably some tutorials that you could check out though. Everything I play relies much more on theatre of the mind stuff than specific placement of tokens or anything.

Two years ago, during the first Wizard Jam, I had an idea for a Game & Watch-style game based on Idle thumbs 86: Always Support the Danger Layer. I never got around to making it, but finally, this year, my brother (who's a reader but not a forum member) and I are going for it! We've done very little so far, but here's the first official screenshot:
The idea is gonna be that there's a building collapsing and your little character has to move around, hammering on the pillars to stop them from breaking. I'll keep this thread updating as we get more done!

I have read the book and seen the movie three times (read the book first) and I'd actually argue that the book does make it easier to appreciate the movie, but not because it makes the plot clearer. In fact, the book presents the plot in just as opaque a method as the movie (although, interestingly, the two reveal their secrets in almost an opposite order). But having read the book first, the disjointedness and opacity of the movie were much more tolerable for me. I knew that they weren't due to my failing to understand something or the director failing to communicate it. Rather, that was the deliberate aesthetic of the story.
I also think it helps a lot for the big spoiler. I'll just pop that whole part out:
SpoilerI've often heard people say (as Gormongous alluded to earlier) that the casting of Colin Firth ruins the reveal at the end of the movie, because obviously the biggest name actor is going to be the bad guy. But that's the entire point. In the book, Bill Haydon (Firth's character) is the obvious number one suspect for the whole thing. He occupies a much bigger space in the story than anybody else. Even when suspicion swerves elsewhere, you're always thinking in the back of your head "okay, but still, it's gotta be Haydon, right?" And that's exactly what Smiley's thinking and exactly why Smiley doesn't suspect him. He's too obvious a choice - it would have to be somebody smaller, somebody less directly connected to Smiley. And that's why the twist works and why Firth's casting works. When it's revealed that Haydon's the spy, it's supposed to be deflating. You didn't want it to be him, because it was too obvious and that's what made him such a good spy.

I'm super happy right now. I wasn't sure if anyone would actually play it!Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, we only did the two sessions (one mission), but it was a good time.

"The Spine" is a good choice from Transistor, but "Paper Boats" is my choice.

I'd be interested in that!

According to a recent Waypoint Radio episode he really didn't like the GOTY process, but I feel like Waypoint's year-end material swung super hard in the other direction to the point where I couldn't figure out why I was supposed to want to read it. None of the deep critical dives, just cute shit about what character has the best car, or super convoluted justifications to shallowly talk about a genre within the context of a yearbook. What?
I didn't get the sense that Austin hated the GB GOTY process, just that the Waypoint team wanted to do something different. I agree that it's not really my cup of tea though.

Every game I played this year that came out this year was great. They were:
The Witness
Offworld Trading Company
Stardew Valley
Reigns

Anyway, another dreadful morning. Good job, world.
Half the country just showed that they agree with Trump. Why would the GOP try to stonewall him now?

I only played the challenge maps co-op, but they were super fun.

I got into Idle Thumbs back in 2011 (otherwise known as one the In-Between Years) because a bunch of people at another forum I frequent were fans.

No, those are part of the "The Big" series, the most recent entry in which is The Big Short.

I am wildly excited for this website and also think the name is terrible and bland. I am hopeful that Junior Mints will be involved with their podcasts on at least an occasional basis.
Listen to their latest podcast where they read off the list of rejected names and be thankful it's not Bazinga.zone.

Big Eyes was the third movie. The first movie was Big.

I wouldn't read too much into that. The 3DS and Wii U also had a bunch of third party stuff in their pre-release hype.

I can only just believe they still make these, haha.
This ad was on TV all the time when I was a kid and it's hilarious.

Goodbye even-year magic.

I obviously haven't played it myself, but Civ 6 looks way more fully featured than vanilla Civ V. The only big system that isn't coming over from Brave New World is the World Congress: Trade Routes, Tourism and Religion are all there.

This game is coming out soon! Has anybody else been following it? I've been watching a bunch of let's plays of the preview build and it seems really, really good. I love what they've done with the unstacked cities and the split tech tree.

Blue Jays going to the ALCS again!
Cannot believe that the Red Sox got swept though.

Inis is my favourite game of last year, and probably of the last several years. So good. And absolutely drop-dead gorgeous.
