The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Dewar replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Unfortunately, Colonial Marines poisoned that well. -
I am planning on getting my server setup tonight. I have pretty good bandwidth, but I don't have a static IP or anything so the address will probably change about once a month or so. If people are willing to put up with that, I'll post the IP in the multiplayer forum.

Work sucks, my wife is out this evening, time to have some absinthe.
-
It doesn't really concern me that much, but thank you for the offer.
-
Hmm, unedited, so yay sex scenes I guess?

This game gets a bunch better once you unlock improved parkour at level 5 agility. I'm still having fun with it, despite some occasional instances of really borked frame rate. I hope that patch doesn't ruin it for me.
-
I've tried to start in on that game a couple of times, but I get stymied after about 2 hours of playing.

I have found myself paying a lot more attention to the brand of shoes I've been getting. Generally, if one shoe from a company falls apart after a few months, all will. I finally got a pair of sketchers and they've been nice and comfortable for far longer than any other shoes I've gotten, so I think I've settled on them for now.
-
Agreed.
-
That reminds me, I was going to download Prototype 2 before the end of the month.

I was looking through the early parts of a walk through to try and figure out where I got stuck, but nothing rang a bell. I know I definitely made it to town with the journal and all the different appointments you had to make with people, so I think that's past the prologue? I wish I could remember more clearly, I might have to dig out my N64 and see if I still have a save. As other people have said, I was also very frustrated with not really being able to tell what would carry over from cycle to cycle and what wouldn't. I specifically remember getting an item that I thought would be permanent, and losing it upon reset. Maybe a key or something *shrug*

Interesting that it's not going F2P, just B2P. It makes me feel a little better about my purchase so long ago, but I wonder how much is going to be behind another pay wall.

There's actually Agility, Strength, and Survivor Level that all gain XP separately. Survivor Level is quest XP. At level 5 though, none of the skills or abilities have been particularly transformative, basically a slide move, a 10% chance to stun, and a few additional crafting recipes.

Once you got to the slums, it definitely lost some of the narrative interest. The introduction and then incredible prevalence of guns toward the end of that area sucked the joy out of it for me, since the shooting in that game is pretty sub-average. Also, I was playing the bladed weapons character, which has its own drag of having all the coolest items with the least durability, requiring a lot of repairing and general fuss. I've been thinking about picking it up and trying to beat it, but I hear the end gets even more bland. On the subject of the actual game the thread is about, those night zombies are terrifying, but it feels pretty cool when you manage to evade them. It's definitely a stealth/parkour game at night while it's more of a combat/occasional parkour game during the day. Edit: I'd say that review sums up a lot of my first couple hours of play. I'm not near as annoyed at the failings as he is, but I imagine I might be pretty pissed at those details as well if I had to play it all day for two days.

Yeah, my idea of what makes cool is mostly shaped by Star Trek. To be fair though, I haven't even found a black hole or anything. Most interesting things I've seen are generally double binary systems and such, but those are also the worst to try and explore *shrug*
-
Yeah, I felt like that at first, but I really never found anything interesting. My best system at this point has been about 50k, and that was kind of cool, but I've found mostly 10k systems.
-
I'm a couple of hours in, and It's pretty cool so far, but the parkour stuff is still sort of unreliable. When it works it's awesome though. Still, it's missing some of what I liked about Dead Island, though I can't put my finger on what. Hopefully, it makes up for that by not completely falling apart after the first act.
-
It hasn't been discussed or anything, and I doubt my wife would be interested, but I could see myself going for the idea of my wife getting herself an occasional partner. We're at that age now where my sex drive is decreasing and hers is peaking, and I'm not doing a great job of keeping up *shrug* On the other hand, I can't imagine being responsible for trying to please multiple people, even in a threesome situation.

I have fried a stick of ram once. A lot of it has to do with your climate. Here in the pacific northwest, it's generally damp enough for it not to be a huge concern. In drier climates, especially if your house doesn't have decent climate control, it can be a huge problem. And yes, touching the case only does a marginal amount of good unless the computer has a power supply and is plugged in. My last job before this I replaced laptop and desktop parts about 4-6 hours a day, every day. In the end, I wear a wrist band because then I just don't have to think about it.

Never a better time to be a Seahawks fan, but my true passion these days is Sounders FC (it's not too bad of a time to be a Sounders fan either.) I really wish we had a hockey team as well, but they've been perennial teases about it for long enough that I don't think it'll happen.
-
*shrug* I got half way through the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild and neither of them interested me. To be fair, neither did the Mage or Fighter's guild, I just happened to be a couple of missions from completing them the last time I quit playing. I don't really like sneaking around in Elder Scrolls, it's really hard to tell what's going to see you and what isn't until it's too late.

Except if you don't have the advanced scanner half the systems you visit look empty, so you end up chasing moving dots on the horizon and not knowing if they're worth it until you arrive. I've managed to get up to 180k an hour mining and somewhere around 40k an hour exploring.

Hmm, I've had an SOE account for forever and a PSN account for years as well, but didn't they already pay out for this once? -
A friend bought a 4-pack and gave me one, so I guess I'm in on this. I'm still not exactly sure what the game even is.
-
I wish that discovery stuff made enough cash to actually be able to earn the advanced discovery scanner that way. Mining can be fun at times, but man I've done it a lot a this point.
