The term "Procedurally Generated Animations" is on the Steam page. Doesn't that just mean that animations are determined by interactions with other objects (i.e. physics) instead of an actual animator? Or is there something more to it than that?

Technically, that's number of planets scanned, so people that scan every single planet they come across could be higher on the list but have made less money (and therefore have less of an exploration rank) than someone who's more selective.

The process for all the contractors that I've dealt with his to go through the temp agency HR, who will then communicate with the main company's HR. I can definitely understand why you'd be hesitant to report it though, especially if you really like your job. It sucks being a temp/contractor.

Hearing him talk (very briefly) about it on the tested podcast, it sounds like it was just a natural conclusion to his section of the work as opposed to "losing" anyone. I'm not surprised that Disney would want to run the script through a few writers to homogenize and dullify it as much as possible.

Ug "the culture" is used to permit a lot of crappy things at my current company as well, but none so socially distressing.

I guess we'll all just have to watch it and find out.

Changing the course of conversation a bit, that would definitely not fly in any corporate environment that I've been involved in (Microsoft, Siemens, and my current company.) I'm honestly surprised and concerned that there are still places that accept that kind of behavior. It might as well be Mad Men.

I enjoyed what I played of it, but the incomplete bits really got in my way so I decided to wait until release. I haven't played with the new combat system, but it sounds like it's a lot closer to what I was expecting (naval combat with firing arcs) then before so that sounds pretty cool.

Yeah, their support staff seems pretty much non-existent. I know that people have had various types of help tickets in for more than a month without any response. On another note, I sold all my scanner equipment (to lower my re-buy in case I crash into the side of a station again,) bought some more cargo bays, and made a mining run yesterday that got me about half way to the advanced scanner. I think I'll be able to get it just before 1.1 goes live.

So, apparently one of the Devs dumped all the discovery data they have stored up to this point? http://dump.bass-speaker.com/discovery.php That's cool, I have 204 objects that'll have my name on them when 1.1 comes live for all. If you click the "here" at the top of the page, you can see the list by Commander. I'm apparently the 3856th most exploringest Commander out of 15292. Top quarter isn't too bad.

Basically the big companies will be able to bribe people to vote against it, and if they can't do it now then they'll wait for the next president and try again.

Somehow, I doubt that will ever come to fruition, but it would be nice.

Idle Thumbs 196: Ode on a Grecian Hat Sale

I am one of the 5.8% who baked a cake. I wonder if that percentage is actually accurate or if people found a way to cheese it. Also Analogue: A Hate Story is excellent. Hate Plus was OK. Maybe I played them too close to each other. -

Personally, I buy sets of cheap Blackberry ear buds 10 at a time from Amazon for using when I'm riding a bike or generally out and about, and then have a nice set of Logitech headphones for when I'm at home and don't have to worry about things breaking as much. Edit: That reminds me, I need to buy a new set of Logitech G930s so I can give my wife her headset back.

Personally, I wouldn't read Specter of the Past and Vision of the future without reading some of the major books in-between. I think the changes in Mara's character would be quite a shock without any context. Start with the Thrawn Trilogy and then come back if you want more and we can make some suggestions I think The two Hand of Thrawn books have the distinction of being the final EU books I read before I realized how silly they were getting. I wonder what going back and reading those first few series of books would be like.

Sounds awesome to me. I imagine that the game almost turns into a negotiation game as you add more people.

Nice, I'm going to go off and do different things for a bit and come back to it. I'm a little disappointed that they gate the FTL drive behind a boss like that. I mean there's a bunch of planets in moons in the starting system, but not a whole lot that's really unique besides the avian city I mentioned before and one little glitch tower from which I bought a wizard hat.

Nice, after getting clobbered by the first boss, I've decided to actually build myself a house rather than being nomadic in my ship all the time. I don't have any pictures worth posting yet.

I think I'm going to wait for this one to be out of Early Access. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but I have a lot of Early Access games right now and I don't really feel like adding to the pile. -
First boss is hard.

*shrug* Arrange to go out to lunch with the old office-mates on occasion?

Kickstarter is ending for this. I bookmarked it, but I'm not sure. Edit: Sure, a new soundtrack by Jack Wall will be cool even if the game falls short.

I think that the search is broken? I get no results even when I search for something basic like "Kickstarter." I'm sure that's both in the title and content in at least a few threads.

Wow, Dan is a crazy human being. "I'm scared of heights, so I guess I'll go jump out of an airplane."
