Cradle: Gone Home but with androids instead of ghosts
Dewar replied to vimes's topic in Video Gaming
I decided to kill the Quick Look after they took the armor off the eagle. I've got to pick this up. -
I am starting to get tempted to go and try and scalp some International tickets.

Idle Thumbs 221: Meet the Kerfluffles
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
They delayed it indefinitely, which is a term that is often used in game development to cancel something. I think people wouldn't be screaming canceled if they'd set a date, even if it was a year away. Running back with the flag the entire way, not touching the ground, dodging huge robots was the best. I only got to do it successfully a couple of times. Edit: Oh, I'm still interested in Her Story talk as well, though the window on that is certainly closing. -
Unless they've fixed it recently, don't use the shorter war option. Some of the mission types don't scale with time and others do, and it can end up screwing you. Also, don't ever let them get a clean shot at you. Smokes, flashbangs, and running behind a wall (like no longer visible, not full cover) are all great tools. Finally, limit your view of the map. Triggering two pods at once is when things go down hill. Move your soldiers where they're only going to uncover a little bit of the map at a time. Beagle Rush has some great videos at https://www.youtube.com/user/Beaglerush/videos They are pretty out of date mechanics wise, but it does show you how careful you can be since he plays on impossible difficulty.

Indeed. That was some sweet net worth.

"Metro" ended up being a problematic term for one reason or another, so those apps are "modern" -
Cradle: Gone Home but with androids instead of ghosts

That thread's ancient, so I think this should be OK. I'm thinking about picking it up after the GBEast talk as well. -
Yeah, I know, it just seems crazy to me. One of those things that feels like it should be common sense, but isn't.

I was looking at dream the other day. Maybe I'll give it a pass in favor of Cradle.

If you're getting it for half of retail price, it's probably shady? Goes for real life things like electronics at Costco just as well as it does for games.

Twitch is blocked for me here, so I'm either on the Dota Watch page (which seems to get through even though it's based on Twitch) or Youtube. Most chat clients are blocked here as well. I have Thursday and Friday off though, so any sort of chat during those days I'm all for.

Weird, I guess I'm just paranoid. I can't imagine buying anything like that. I barely even used eBay because of that concern.

That's a really interesting and well written article. One of the more engrossing ones I've read in a while. I do my best to only buy games new and from official sellers (or the developer itself if I can) but I realize I'm in the rather privileged position of having more money to buy games than I have time to play them. Still, it really surprises me that people who choose to buy from these sites aren't at least peripherally aware that it could be attached to theft, money laundering, or other shady business practices.

I finally gave up floating around Achenar waiting for an Imperial Courier to show up (I still have no idea where they all went) and flew out to a place with less of a discount that actually had stock. It's been a pretty sweet explorer so far. I haven't had a chance to put it through combat yet.

That's really annoying. I checked on Sunday, but apparently not late enough? Now I'm probably going to miss it. Edit: Hmm, I'm actually looking forward to all the looser bracket matches more than the winners bracket for the day. I guess maybe I'll watch the best of threes, then shut off the stream at work so I can watch them in all their glory at home. Edit2: Wow, they are really doing it up for the opening ceremonies.

Ah, I think you're past me then. I got stuck again somewhere in world 4.

I'd imagine they'd want their current Kickstarter project to finish before launching the next one. Edit: Oh, the announcement was at GenCon, that explains the timing.

After the failed Battle Tech and Mech Warrior webpage based games, I'm excited to see this be actually cool.

Well, on a jack of all trades note, one of these big ones can be used to make dips and such with avocado, tomato, and other such things that a blender might not quite do the trick on. http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/3983806/?catalogId=80&sku=3983806&cm_ven=Google_PLA&cm_cat=Shopping&cm_pla=default&cm_ite=default&gclid=CjwKEAjwueytBRCmpOyZ2L-xrG8SJADwH5c6AG8DrSu2sZW05DUG6Vfy6NNN0GoJVxp-GeiN3K_wLhoCN0Pw_wcB&kwid=productads-plaid^84645142423-sku^3983806-adType^PLA-device^c-adid^45527541703 But yeah, if you're looking for a small kitchen, granite is probably what you want.

Depending on what you're grinding, I have generally preferred volcanic rock Mortar and Pestles. The roughness makes it easier to grind down larger or harder things like basil, garlic, sea salt, etc. The disadvantage of that is if you're really powdering something, it can be tough to get it back out of the bowl due to all the nooks and crannies.

Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Dewar replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
The earlier stages in Blood Money created some pretty memorable college moments playing with dorm buddies, but I tend to gloss over in my mind how difficult some of the last stages were. If there weren't three of us trading off, there's no way I'd have made it through. -
Let me guess, did you just get to your first major Twomp fight? I was dead-ended there for quite a long time.

Hmm, we have earthquake drills all the time in my office building, and we went over it for about a week a year in science class growing up. Maybe it's one of those things that everyone who grew up here knew and they don't do a good job of explaining to people moving here. Seattle is working on being prepared, part of the big expensive effort to replace the viaduct is for earthquake safety, and all new buildings have to meet some pretty stringent controls, but we do have a lot of old stuff around here and there isn't any money to upgrade most of it. I'm sure it's the same everywhere, but I feel like I'm paying an awful lot of local taxes and not seeing much from it. Transportation especially is always getting squeezed to give up more budget.

Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
Dewar replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
Ah, so there goes the idea of upgrading to an SSD and installing there. Hmm, I guess I could upgrade to an SSD, Install Win7, then immediately upgrade to Win10, then wipe the drive and install Win10 fresh. Edit: Windows privacy settings article reminds me of the other reason I don't want to upgrade. I want my desktop to be my desktop and my tablet to be my tablet. I don't want to sync settings between them because they have completely different use cases and completely different hard drive sizes. -
Some interesting teams in the top bracket that I hadn't heard of before this week. CDEC, EHOME, and Complexity all looked really good in the couple of games that I caught. I hope either MVP Phoenix or Newbee storm back from the looser's bracket and make the final round.
