So, I assume there's going to be a Steam Christmas sale at some point in addition to the fall/winter sale they already had? Anyone hear anything?

Idle Thumbs 238: From Earth to Pluto
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Wait, I thought GIRL was going to the sun now? I guess that was a mistranslation or something? -
I ran a gaming laptop combined with a console for a long time. I would play all the hottest new releases on the console, but then all the older stuff I enjoyed (and play a lot more really) on the laptop. In the end, I overheated it and melted the video card to slag.

Interesting, I've never seen anything like that.

Each person will have a different experience of course, but on PC this is the least buggy Bethesda game I've ever played. I had twice where a quest step wouldn't complete and I had to quit and reload, and that dumb bug where your defenses suddenly drop to zero in a location until you travel back to it.

I haven't watched the video, but I disagree with all your paraphrases at least. While I did spend a lot of time grabbing crafting materials, you don't have to interface with any of that to have a good time. You certainly don't need to have a lot of settlements and, in fact, having too many is when I started getting really annoyed at the game. The main quest is a bit silly (that's true for Fallout 3 as well,) but I've found several of the side quests very rewarding. I have no idea what is even meant about character customization not mattering past level 10, I think this game has the best level up system of an RPG I've played in a while.

I was comparing between SanDisk and Samsung SSDs myself. SanDisk SSDs have a 3 year warranty and Samsungs have a 5 year. Also, I've been able to find tons of positive feedback on the Samsungs, and not really all that much on the SanDisks. I decided to pay a little extra and get the Samsung myself.

Also, using the run silently button and relativistic physics buttons. With practice you can jet away at full speed, then go relativistic so you coast, then turn engines to minimum and turn on silent running. And finally drop heat sinks to keep you from overheating until the jump recharges. Alternately, take your starting ship out, get in fights, and lose it a few times. Good to get used to it now so you're more prepared when you've got something to lose.

OK, last post in my big combo. Zeus, I figured out why i had such problems with contracts and you didn't. They put in a patch on November 9th that overhauled the contract system and made contextual contracts that react to the technologies you have unlocked. The contracts I was getting were to visit locations on Kerbin that I guess you were supposed to use airplanes to reach, but I never even unlocked the techs for that since I'm here to go to space, not play with jets.

Wooooooo, I successfully performed a stable orbital intercept, transferred all the science and the pilot from the stranded moon pod, and made it back to Kerbin. The only black spot on the whole thing is that I needed to restore the autosave once, not because of any maneuvering mistakes, but because the parachutes were on the final stage with separating the last engine, so I ripped my chutes off when I hit the atmosphere the first time. I don't feel too bad about that though, if it was a piloting mistake I would have just lived with it, but a stupid thing like that *shrug* Also, I ran out of thrust just before getting my orbit to hit the atmosphere, but thankfully I had a comical amount of mono-propellant on board and was able to provide the last 50 m/s of retrograde thrust with RCS.

I don't think GG is about objectifying women as much as "no woman should tell me what to do." Various broken parts of Christianity have been all for that going a long time back. It's only recently that things have gotten better on that front.

After a long time away, I went back and finished Dying Light. Besides a sudden quick time event instead of a boss fight and a sudden obsession with inescapable combat arenas followed by crazy parkour at the end, I had a really good time. i felt like weapon upgrades were meaningful, the story was by-the-numbers but not overly annoying. Parkour felt good when you weren't being forced to climb a half-finished 100 story building, combat felt good too. I wish my friends would have play co-op with me more instead of leaving me behind.

I'll just say that I was surprised to see $42 dollars worth of DLC for HellDivers on Steam already, before the gears turned in my head and I understood why. It feels like they could have packaged it better in some way, I dunno.

You can go back to port every time you get the message (and corresponding buff) that "Something Awaits You." Basically you can advance one story in one port each time this happens.

Valentina Kerbal and the Hercules Mk3 on the Mun. It may be a while before she gets back. Edit: And my next flight, despite forgetting to put back on landing gear after some modifications, made it to the moon and back into Kerbin orbit, but not quite enough juice to get back down into the atmosphere.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS
Dewar replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
Well they made Advent Children, so I think they could manage a direct hook without too much work. -
I really like the simplistic art style you've got going on there. So many survival games are going for realistic graphics and then failing so very hard at it.

I watched a video of this on the bus today and I'm shocked that the WiiU can make things look this pretty.

It's rough out there, and as a community gets bigger those folks get noisy until they drown out the sensible ones.

The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

I guess I don't understand why they don't just make a new game if they want to throw in that many changes. -
Won't that mess up the asparagus though trying to pump fuel backwards? Edit: Maybe I should just describe the ship I have. Pod and science gear --- Rockomax X200-8 Fuel Tank (shortest of the wide tanks) and regular (not wide) engine --- Rockomax X200-32 Fuel Tank (biggest tank i have at the moment) with the biggest engine I have and around that, FL-T800 Fuel Tank x8 with efficient engines, arranged asparagus with the final feed from each half going into the Rockomax tank.

My group in Chromehounds was called PROD for People's Republic of Diabeetus, all because one of the Morskoj presidents you could vote for looked like Wilford Brimley. In Call of Duty our clan tag was bred, because bread I guess.

I had no idea that was even possible. Not sure if it's really practical really, I only have one tank above the first stage and I need every stitch of fuel there to get me to the moon and back. By the time I get through my asparagus staging down to the point that manually transferring fuel will do any good, I'm usually stable enough. It's just that turn at 10,000m that I have a tough time with

Honest question, why? I mean this time in particular, I get it in general.

Played in science mode a bunch this weekend. Got caught up to where I was in my full career mode game, then crashed into a 10,000m tall mountain when trying to land on the Mun in the dark. Edit: Also learned that it's my high center of gravity that makes all my rockets start trying to tip over mid-launch, so now I'm considering how much my balance will be off if I only include one ladder, gel pod, barometer, etc on my rocket.
