  1. Life

When I had the unrequited love thing going on, I eventually gave up on it and that's when i realized that she wasn't really that great of a person to hang around with, I just had rose-tinted glasses. So I guess it ended up being a good thing in the end, though not the Hollywood kind of good.
  2. XCOM 2

There's definitely been some XCOM 2 streams where you can see the whole first couple months of the game. Beaglerush is the big one I'm aware of, but I think there's a few more out there. I haven't watched any, I already know I'm buying it so I'm not in any rush to consume content.
  3. Recently completed video games

    Edit: already covered in spoilers
  4. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

I keep on getting into Elite for one day, having a ton of fun, but then not coming back to it. Instead I feel guilty about my flight stick and have "I really should play that more" feelings.I wouldn't say that I regret the $250 I've spent on Elite + Horizons + X52 pro, but I maybe wouldn't make that decision again? I have weird feelings about it.
  5. The invisible Inc talk was especially awesome because of the build up it had throughout the week and then, when it finally hit, it was as intimidating as the threats made it sound.
  6. I thought that Austin, Jeff, Dan, and Alex all had really good moments this year. Vinny was way to quick to give up on his darlings and didn't even give them a proper send-off like Alex would. As much as Brad's repeated "your crazy" mantra was annoying, I was also bugged by "I can't really explain it" coming from Vinny. That also might be because I was rooting for some of the same games. Edit: I just realized that I felt the same thing when the "What Is Firewatch" stuff started at E3. I know it's tough to describe, but at least try.
  7. The Big VR Thread

On the plus side I'll have, nor not have, my bonus before then so I guess we'll see how things look. I'm glad i didn't already upgrade my video card, since I can probably wait and score that for cheaper too.
  8. I have long considered chopping up one of H. P. Lovecraft's shorter works into a twine game, preserving the text as written, but attempting to meld it into a non linear experience where you could get scenes in a different order or even miss some passages should you not choose to examine an object or go into a certain room. Obviously, it would require a little extra writing as glue to hold the bits together, and some cutting here and there, but I think it would be a fun project that would stretch the gray area that's being discussed here.
  9. A page or two back in the thread Tanukitsune moved to the new zone too quickly and didn't have the upgrades to do anything in the new zone at all, so I don't think it's quite that simple.
  10. The Idle Thumbs Super Cookbook!

Are those the chip pans that cause so many fires in England they have to put out PSAs about them? Edit: If you can get a good refined Safflower oil, you can get it up to 500 degrees, which actually reduces the fat content in the fries since they don't have as much time to sit there and absorb it. I'm not sure if it really makes a huge difference for fries but it's huge for deep fried Wontons and especially Crab Rangoon where you want the middle to stay somewhat cool.
  11. Political games?

Is it weird that I'm more interested in trying out the Canada simulator than the US one?
  12. The Big VR Thread

I wonder if waiting to announce the price until preorders were literally up and available was the right move, or if they might have had some of the 599 US Dollars press die down had they announced the price in November.
  13. The Big VR Thread

I don't know where the impression came from, but I always saw this as another gaming platform, with a price on the order of a PS4/X1/WiiU. I was expecting $400, hoping for $300. Maybe when I get my bonus in May (assuming I even get one this year) I'll be able to splurge on it. Maybe they'll release a pack that doesn't come with another X1 controler or EVE and get the price down to $500? Also, I just noticed the shipping date, I thought they said this would be out in Q1?
  14. 2015's Games of the Year?

Soma made enough game of the year lists that i think I'll probably pick it up. Sounds like I'll drop Cradle from my wish list for now.
  15. The Big VR Thread

: ( As excited as I have been about this since all the way back to the Kickstarter, I can't justify putting down $600, plus a video card for this. I know it's petty, but the fact I could have gotten one for $300 had I backed the Kickstarter doesn't make it feel any better. i feel a little like my dreams for 2016 have been crushed. Edit: Oh, and then to have to pay more for the Oculus Touch stuff later in the year.
  16. The Big VR Thread

I thought it was 2x as well. I'll have to check my board.
  17. Idle Cook Club - Veggie Feeds-me: My Body Is Ready

So, I saw Regular Ordinary Swedish Meal Time making lasagna and they did something that I'd never seen before. Instead of just sprinkling cheese for a layer, they made a cheese sauce. I decided to try it and it came out pretty good. Usually having discrete cheese layers hold the thing together sideways, but also tend to make a tough layer in the middle that can split the lasagna layers apart or be difficult to cut through. This was pleasantly cheesy all the way through and much easier to cut with a fork and get a representative core sample. I would recommend trying it. For reference, I made a tomato and meat sauce out of hamburger, fresh tomatoes, green and sweet yellow onions, garlic, full fresh basil leaves, dried oregano and parsley, and a little cheat of canned spaghetti sauce to make sure there was enough liquid in the pan to get the fresh tomatoes really stewing. Then I went: Bottom of pan Noodles Cheese sauce Meat sauce Noodles Cheese sauce Meat sauce Noodles Shredded cheese
  18. That chip is 7 years old, but a lot of games are getting better at pushing load off to the GPU instead of the CPU, so you might be able to get by? I have a 4 year old i5 processor and I rarely max it out.
  19. The Big VR Thread

Yeah, it's just a bummer because I'm so excited for this and would have jumped on the train a long time ago, that's all. I guess we'll see the price. If it's significantly more expensive than the Kickstarter price, I will be a bit more cross.
  20. The Big VR Thread

Well that's kind of a bummer when I specifically followed their warnings to not buy it unless I was a developer.
  21. Painting tabletop miniatures

I got half way through painting a Warmachine Khador from the starter kit that I got for Christmas a year ago before realizing it requires model glue to put together and I didn't have any. I've had a lot of fun working on something that's a bit larger than the typical figures I play with, but I still find myself obsessing over details that most people wouldn't even notice, and not doing very well at them since my fine motor control isn't quite what it used to be.
  22. Zunless Zee (Sunless Sea)

Game of the year, 2015. I need to go back and play again.
  23. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Saint's Row the Third was awesome, but IV got away from what I enjoyed about the series and skewed more toward Prototype or Infamous.
  24. Yes. Getting the higher level snipers and rocket launchers are likely to be a problem, but I found them game breaking anyway and started doing missions OSP (on-site procurement.)
