Overrun is multiplayer structured much like Beast Mode from Gears 3. One side is humans with the regular 4 classes thing going on, the other side is locust with the points based purchasing of better and better enemies. Survival is the same as above, but played as humans versus CPU locust. It's the closest option to the old Horde mode, but it only has 10 waves of enemies, none of the dynamic buildable walls and turrets.

I've said this in another forum, but I don't understand how the game that invented "Horde Mode" can just decide to leave it out in the next game. That's crazy, that's what Gears is known for!

Tax rates really feel like they have little or no actual effect on sims, but it's often confusing what folks want. I routinely go months without a single crime successfully comitted, but buildings still go abandoned due to high crime rate. *shrug*

I liked them for a while after they started the smaller games initiative that Deadspace and Mirrors Edge came out of, as well as some of the EA partners stuff. Too bad they couldn't keep with the good vibes. I still don't hate them quite as much as Ubisoft though.
-
Most games I've paid for don't have experience boosts, except for EA sports games. The problem with paying for XP boosts is that they eventually turn down the XP gain until you have to pay to get any decent progress. (Mechwarrior online fell into that hole.)

I want it for the multi. I play the single player on my Xbox.

I beat it when it first came out, but I've had the Martian Bear DLC on my Xbox since it came out and still haven't touched it.

Does anyone want to discuss this gameplay video with me?
Dewar replied to clyde's topic in Video Gaming
I liked Indigo Prophesy. Giantbomb has a Random PC game video up for Omikron, they got all the way to the Bowie scene. I'd link it but we're still on IE8 at work and Giantbomb doesn't work very well on it. -
The key though is the killer pre-order bonuses you get. Not only in lame DLC, but sometimes in cash. Amazon especially, they typically offer $10 credit and on this title they gave me $20 credit. So you're taking a risk getting it early, but also getting it for cheaper than if you waited a couple of weeks (but still not as cheap as if you waited a couple of years.) I guess in this case I got not only $20 off for ordering it earlier, but now I'm getting a free $10 game too.

Games that have you going strictly from left to right or bottom to top make me feel like it's a progression based game (always moving forward) where games that make you go all different directions feel like exploritory games (gotta check every little crevasse.) As I get older, I've found my preference shifting from the former toward the latter.

I'm interested in the future setting because then you aren't tied to thinking "this isn't modeling the real world very well" or other such things that have been said about Sim City. It's on my Steam wishlist, but I have not yet partaken.

I disliked the car driving and shooting in GTA4. I liked the shooting in SR3, but still didn't care for the cars much. The main thing that struck me about the differences in gameplay is that GTA4 seems a lot less willing to give you any leeway in a way that made the somewhat clunky controls extra frustrating. I felt like I was always getting killed or failing missions because I took just a second too long to get something done, where SR3 seemed willing to just let it slide to make the game more fun. You can take a few more bullets, less obstacles bring you to a dead halt during chases, and time limits to get tasks done seemed plenty long. Considering I was frustrated as hell with GTA4 by the time I was done, that extra leeway made all the difference to me, but I can see where others would think that leeway just made the game feel sloppy. Story and mood wise, both did their stick very well, one just was dead serious, the other has a 5 foot dildo sword.

Well, I was thinking about getting ME3 of PC to play online with friends (I already have the xbox version) but I wasn't going to pay for it. I guess this is a good chance to get it free. Edit: Deadspace 3 is also tempting, but I hear it gets pretty lousy toward the end.

Just so you don't feel alone, this has been my experience as well. Tourism has been especially frustrating, with casino attendance suddenly dropping to zero and leaving me way in the red, then spiking up high again for no reason. I've pretty much given up this game for the moment, at least for a couple of patches. The combo between these problems and traffic issues just makes the game unplayable at some point. I still think it was worth the $40 I paid, not so sure if it would be work $60 to me.

Idle Thumbs 98: Happy Dishonored Return of Nick Breckon
Dewar replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I honestly didn't think he was really there (because of the dishonored title) until the very end. Then I went back through the podcast a little bit and realized I was having a hard time telling the difference between his and Sean's voices, but there's a few times everyone talked at once and I should have realized there were 4 people present. Oh well, oppotunity for a second listen I guess. -
Not true, all the calculations regarding sending resources, workers, and vehicles back and forth between areas in a region are being run on the server. That is some pretty major work being offloaded, even if a lot of people find those calculations uneccessary.
-
So, does anyone know how to make a successful tourist city? It feels lke no matter how many attractions and modes of tourist transport I try, I can't fill more than a single casino.
-
I wonder if some of the calculations were disabled in one of the server performance patches. Just like Cheetah speed, maybe they were sending more tasks to the server to take care of? Wait, you mean when you send a fire truck to another city, it doesn't take it from your city?
-
I still like it, but if you're the type that has to make the most efficient city possible, you'll spend a lot of time trying to predict the quirks and shortcuts in the simulation rather than having fun. Edit: Not that optimising and working the AI can't be fun, just that it's frustrating in this particular game because of the inconsistencies. Edit2: Those road videos are awesome.

Ultima Online, Offline (if you want) The Return of the Real Lord British
Dewar replied to feelthedarkness's topic in Video Gaming
I dunno if I really wanted this or not, but I logged into Kickstarter and saw there was exactly 1 of the earlybird packages left, so I went for it. -
I can't wait for some of my Kickstarter software to start showing up at my door. I won't need to buy games for months.
-
I really want an Oculus, but I managed to hold off on the Kickstarter. If nothing else, it will be a cool conversation piece with the one or two games that support it.
-
I'm willing to buy things for this game, depending on what they are. The little mini-quest type buildings like Maxis Man and Dr. Vu don't really interest me, but if they put in a whole different specialty, I might consider buying that.
