  1. The McElroy Family of Products

Considering that every time Angus is on he just gets bullied by the players all the time, I'm happy to have him absent.
  2. Oh, I have that in my Steam library but I don't think I ever actually started it.
  3. This Summer Games event has really soured me on the whole Loot Box mechanic. When you have infinite time to get an item, then it's no big deal if it takes me longer to get there. With enough games played, I can be assured I can get that Mercy skin I want, either by randomly drawing it or eventually saving up enough money from duplicates to buy in. Suddenly, when these skins are three-week time-limited boxes the random gambling seems like a lot more of a cash grab. I bought 10 boxes, and opened another 15 from leveling up, and only got one new skin, and it was for the character that I have played the least in the entire game. At this point, I'll only be able to get another 5 or so at the rate I'm leveling, and I've pretty much given up on getting anything good. Another annoyance is that I'd just hit level 120 when the event started. If I'd leveled a little bit slower, I could have gotten a bunch of easy event loot boxes for levels 101-115. At least my wife is getting the easy event loot.
  4. No Man's Sky

I feel like from the Giant Bomb coverage with podcasts and interviews, I knew exactly what I was getting from this game. It's made watching all the arguments on reddit about how they misrepresented the game in various ways feel kind of surreal. It really made me realize how many folks out there get gaming information from a few 5 minute preview videos. Given that, my expectations were middle of the road and I would say it matched or slightly exceeded my expectations. I felt kinda burned by Elite:Dangerous, as there just isn't much to see in that game, doing anything in it is difficult and time consuming, and you're competing with everyone else while doing a whole lot of nothing. While the mechanics in this game are much simpler/more boring, I don't find it particularly difficult and, while it does consume time, it doesn't waste it in the same way Elite does. For instance, take a stopwatch and time how long it takes you to get from one point of interest (space station, planet surface, etc) to another in Elite, and then compare that with NMS. It's relaxed, smooth, and moves quickly. I can jump in for 30 minutes or 3 hours and feel satisfied. However, I'm starting to see the seams in the procedural generation, and I really haven't seen that much that I'd call "incredible." I've re-wrote this post a few times to try and make it less rambly, but I think I'm getting my point across at least. I like it, it's fun to explore and I'm happy to set my own goals. I see it getting boring in the future, but that's OK. I've gotten my money's worth already.

Oooh, that's been on my wish list for a long time. Sounds like it might be worth it.
  6. His change from straight up willful ignorance to ignorant but willing to learn has been nice. He also seems to be meshing with the Beast guys pretty well. I wish he could be on more podcasts with Austin Walker. Maybe Vice will start doing it's gaming podcast more often and we'll get some more talent sharing going on. I really want to hear Patrick and Dan in the same room for some reason.
  7. What's the default difficulty on this save again? My current game is running Classic - Base Builder and I'm doing pretty dang well. Certainly ready to jump up in difficulty, but I might want to practice a bit first.
  8. Dota 2 - TI 6

That last match was a pretty crazy throw. EG just fell apart all of a sudden.
  9. Nice, I think I'm more prepared this time. hopefully i'll be able to whip up a story that's worthy of screenshots.
  10. No Man's Sky

Given the amount of space rocks out there that you fly right through, I assumed the ship phased out of existence for it's trip.
  11. No Man's Sky

It sound like you're enjoying being lost in space, but... Edit: I think the game really is just smoke and mirrors but, much like a magic show, if you're willing to let them, the illusions can carry you away.
  12. Dota 2 - TI 6

So glad i got to see that game in person.
  13. Dota 2 - TI 6

I have no idea what people are chanting, but it's certainly exciting.
  14. Dota 2 - TI 6

I made it! I got the second-to-last daily ticket!
  15. Dota 2 - TI 6

I hate Slacks, this puppet thing did nothing to change my mind. Edit: Visa issues suck. I wish it wasn't so hard to get into this country legally. Maybe less people would try to come in illegally then.
  16. Dota 2 - TI 6

God I love MVP. They seem so excited and unpredictable. Reminds me of why I liked Na'Vi.
  17. Dota 2 - TI 6

Just checked and the Box Office has "tons" of daily tickets available two hours after opening today, so I think I'm going to head down there on Wednesday and see if I can get in for the day, maybe see if I can wave at Brad Muir or Shoemaker.
  18. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

So I guess I was too subtle, can we get some spoiler links on those videos with nudity in the preview Korax and Erkki?
  19. Rimworld

There was a mod on RPS that had you starting as 5 cannibals.
  20. Dota 2 - TI 6

I am already getting tired of seeing Batrider
  21. Recently completed video games

Wow, even on my second play with the experience I earned from playing all the way to the deadline the first time, I only managed to get maybe half the side missions done. I guess I'm slow or something.

Dead Rising 1 only took me two shots to get the true end, and so did Dead Rising 3, so maybe you're just better at these games now? I certainly didn't find it that hard, but you had to keep to a pretty tight schedule to finish in time, and the limited saves did bite me a couple of times. I haven't played any of the extra Dead Rising 3 stuff yet. The package comes with a bunch of DLC, but I wanted to give it a rest first. The stuff I've heard about Dead Rising 4 hasn't thrilled me either but, after skipping on 3 due to similar concerns that were unfounded, I'll probably take a shot with 4 just to see what they ended up with.
  23. As expected, this being my first game was a total disaster. I took the suggestion earlier of trying to dig into a hill and setup my base Dwarf Fortress style, but the colonists dig so slow and leave a mess everywhere. Still, I managed to get a barracks and a medbay up and running. I killed one raider and had a single joiner. Food is in good supply, but being completely unable to keep up with all of the complaints about dirty, ugly, small, etc. started taking it's toll. This fire starting spree eventually signaled the beginning of the end. One of my colonists went berserk, another went pyro, the two of them fought and the berserk one ended up in the hospital. The pyromaniac recovered, just in time for a third to go into a psychotic break and stand in a corner silently as three more raiders attacked. They injured and carried away my two functional folks, and killed my dog too. It's possible I might have been able to recover from that, but I'm tired and I should really try playing at a lower difficulty first. Is the plan to post a new seed like once a week or something, or should we take multiple runs at this one?
  24. I'm coming from a different angle then, because I watch almost every video and listen to almost every podcast they put out *shrug*
  25. I am of mixed opinion. To tell the truth, I never really cared for the Jason vs Dan stuff. I know it was mostly made up, but I don't need that kind of angst in my off time. I also miss Brad's more analytical view of games that is so often stomped on by Dan. At the same time, Austin put his stamp on GBeast, and it feels like any last shreds of that are being washed away with this move. Though Austin's shoes would be pretty tough to fill, so maybe going a completely different direction is the way to go *shrug*
