I guess I was playing late enough in the cycle that I assumed that any connection problems I had were related to just not a lot of people playing. I was successful connecting to folks about 1/2 the time. On the 360, I was getting horrible frame drops every time I killed anything larger than a black night (I assume because of the particle effects) and intermittant drops pretty much anywhere there was a long sight distance. On PC, I had a few problems in Anor Londo, but it was pretty much flawless.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes

Also lots of plot heavy episodes that are important to understanding later episodes, but aren't all that great by themselves. -
Anecdotal of course, but I didn't have any problems on my PC, though that might be DSFix I guess.

For me, the X360 version of Dark Souls already had some pretty bad framerate hits, and I'd be really concerned at how Dark Souls 2 is going to perform.

Oh, for some reason I thought that it was PS3 exclusive. I might pick it up on Xbox, but it's not exactly convienient for me to play it on my TV anymore. Still, being in the wave of discovery with everyone else might be pretty cool. Edit: Hmm, old article, but it doesn't sound like the PC version will be that much later than the console versions.

I'm considering it, yes, but I also don't like the PS3 controller.

Wow, I had no idea that existed. That would probably make the game a lot easier.

Unscrupulous FedEx and UPS workers will sometimes scan all their items as delivered when the truck is loaded, rather than scanning them as they deliever them, in order to make their times look better. Sounds like someone did that, then the package fell behind the seat or something.

Nice, I was hoping they'd bolt a Track-IR onto that thing. I'm starting to hope we'll be able to purchase one of these this year.

There are a lot of them, but not really in that precarious of locations. If you can get past those, you're inside in warm (not at all) safety for a while.

Empire: Total War came out without any sort of campaign multiplayer, despite it being promised before hand. They then continued to promise that it would be put in, only to finally push it to the next Total War game. Worst of all, the AI could not board boats for at least three months after launch, meaning that if you took over an entire island, you were completely invincible. So broken single player and no multiplayer. The games come out looking nice and pretty, but there's a bunch of broken features underneath the polish.

Creative Assembly has a track record of producing incomplete and buggy games. I hope it's good, but I'm not hopeful.

Wow, my wife is a huge Mushishi fan. I've linked her this thread since I don't think she's seen this much Mushishi love on an english forum before.

The sad thing is that they must get enough people into the scheme to make it profitable, or else they'd have closed already.

There are a lot of morons out there. Just watch Honey Booboo or Duck Dynasty.

Interesting, I know I recognize her name from somewhere, but I don't really keep track of too many games journalists. Maybe I'll try out the Not a Game Podcast and see how that goes.

Maybe I should pick up Unity again. The problem is that most of my prior programming experience is from before object oriented programming, so I have a really hard time figuring out which variables are on what object, how to set access permissions, etc. Unfortunately, most tutorials just skip over that part because they figure that you'll just understand it. You should probably consider the possibility that you are in fact super smart and you're just applying in the same limited job pool as a lot of other super smart people. I'm not a smoker (far from, I have asthma and I can't really tollerate the stuff) but it's really starting to piss me off how many anti-smoker rules are getting created these days. It doesn't seem to me that it's anyone's business as long as I'm not being forced to sit in a small room with it.

I played the broken sequel First Encounters a bunch when I was young. That's why I backed this.

If only Steam could sell me time to play all those games at the same discounted rate I got away with just Gone Home, Brutal Legend, Just Cause 2, Fallout: New Vegas, and XCOM:Enemy Within

Back to the subject of this thread, last year I made a resolution to try and beat as many games as I purchased. I was well ahead of the line until I got my PS3 (and subsequently bought all of the Uncharted and Infmaous games) and enrolled in PS+. With a little bit of jiggering to seperate games that I got for free versus games that I paid for, I was able to hit my goal exactly by beating the new Zelda a few days before the end of the year. Unfortunately, my backlog still grew by around 30 games due to presents, contests, and PS+/Games with Gold, but at least the resolution had me thinking about purchases rather than just impulse buying all the time. I plan on keeping up the same resolution for the new year, as well as trying to cut down the soda intake again. High Fructose Corn Syrup is my constant enemy. I think the wording of my resolution this year will be "I won't buy soda from the vending machine at work" that way if I'm really desperate for a pick-me-up, I can walk to the store, but it will hopefully cut down on the "just because" soda intake.

So, I just bought this in the Winter sale and played through it yesterday. I think some of my impressions about the game were colored by the little bits of knowledge I picked up around the Idle Thumbs forums. For instance, I was able to guess a lot of the main plot after about the 4th audio log due to... Still, the depth in the side story of Terry really surprised me and made the whole thing worth it for me. Looking back through the thread, I completely missed a lot of the Oscar related items that showed the darker side of that story, and I really wish I'd been more attentive and picked that stuff up. I also missed the lightbulb and the infamous note that Katie throws away. Finally (and shamefully,) I never managed to open any of the combination locks besides the one required for the plot.

I reached a point in the game where I could reliably get about mid-way up the tech tree, but never get any further because I'd either die or loose interest. There have been a few patches since I played last, so maybe they've fixed it, but there's a definite section of the game after you've tended to your immediate needs but before you're powerful enough to start taking on enemies that drags.

So, is there room in this thread for Babylon 5 love? I'm watching through again and the graphics are pretty dated, but I still love it. -
I've beaten the first boss and traveled to the beta sector, my friends are the ones who have made it all the way to delta I believe. Getting that far in the game reveals some pretty serious ballance problems, so it's probably for the best to stay dabbling in the early game for a while. Once you're able to regularly and easily tackle level 5 planets, you'll start to wonder why you waste fuel hopping back to your level 1 home planet every time you want to craft something. I'm hoping they put something in the game that either gives real value to having a solid home planet, or the ability to build out your ship as a moving base. Also, having a list of favorited planets would be nice.

Technically, they, them, and their are supposed to refer only to groups of people and "he or she" type constructs are supposed to be used with one person of indefinite gender. I think everyone pretty much agrees that "he or she" is terribly clunky so we're all left in this wierd grey area. To quote Dictionary.com:
