  1. No Man's Sky

On the other hand, if they were even more open about what they were doing, we'd have seen the game in development and some idea about the contents before it went live. It feels like they hit upon the exact wrong amount of information to give, either less or more would have been better.
  2. Social Justice

Maybe I'm just not old enough yet, or maybe it's the college I went to, but haven't colleges always swayed toward liberal? What happens to these old white guys that the suddenly forget that?
  3. No Man's Sky

The more I ruminate on No Man's Sky, the more I get bummed out. Pre-release coverage prepared me that it might be tedious, and it might be boring, and it would lack the depth of mechanics I generally really like in my game, but what I did not expect is that it would be so ugly. Voxel pop-in is so intense that there's not really a hope of seeing anything interesting while flying over the planet, and it's still pretty apparent even when walking around. I expected a Skyrim type moment, cresting a hill and seeing the next hill over, or the next one after that and getting that "I can go there" feel, but instead it's "I can go there, but it won't look anything like that when I arrive." Couple that with how many creatures look basically the same, and how bad their animation cycles are, and I just get sad. NMS looks so good in screenshots, I just wish it felt good when things were actually moving. As a side note, I calculated that I'll have to go through more than 100 black holes to make it to the center of the galaxy. That feels a bit excessive.
  4. Dota 2 - Summer 2016 Roster Shuffles

I don't understand the drive for a team that is second in the world to switch up their roster.
  5. TITANFLAPS 2

Maybe fast and loose to get in before the next test, but then fine adjustments later?
  6. Pen and Paper and Roll20.net Games

It seemed like the cards were at least encouraging developing different factions in the city and having them conflict, even if it's not directly the players conflicting. Plus there was the mechanic where you could take tokens if you didn't agree with what was going on. It brought me back to the Holiday special in season 2, where Austin had to play a character to cause problems because the other players were just kinda working together.
  7. Pen and Paper and Roll20.net Games

The first couple of episodes of this season of Friends at the Table were them playing The Quiet Year. I was a bit disappointing, nobody really seemed to want to create much conflict, so it ended up kinda flat.
  8. The Next President

I've reached the point where I'm pretty much against us sending troops anywhere. We seem to just make things worse for the most part.
  9. Endless Legend

interesting, i played the base game a couple of times but didn't find it particularly gripping. Have the last few expansions been good?
  10. No Man's Sky

Then there shouldn't be milestones or extra cash payouts for finding them all on a planet.
  11. Non-video games

Life in general is figuring out how to mitigate randomness.
  12. No Man's Sky

There is not anything like that as far as I know. It's one of a few big complaints I have about the game, they want you to relax and run around discovering stuff, but they don't make it easy.
  13. Pen and Paper and Roll20.net Games

It seems like the openness of Dungeon World would make it tough to play with folks that you're not already friends with. I bought the book, I'm about half way through, and it has even less rules than I thought it would.
  14. Mass Effect 2

I left off about half way through my 100% achievement run on ME2. Not for getting bored of the game, but more because I've simply not been playing as many games on my TV as of late.
  15. If you look at the actual gross healing numbers, Lucio often beats Mercy by 20% or so, especially if you have multiple tanks or the opposing team is poor at concentrating fire. The ability to keep one tank alive through an absolute hail of gunfire or resurrect the entire team feel pretty cool though. I use Mercy because I have a tough time with Lucio's movement mechanics or really doing any damage with his attacks anyway.
  16. TITANFLAPS 2

    That all sounds good.
  17. Mercy is still my highest played, and I have a lot of fun at it, but there are definitely evenings where it's either boring or there are just too many folks getting to the back line and taking me out. Roadhog has quickly been running up the charts of my most-played as well, along with Pharah.
  18. Both Mercy and Lucio have some pretty quick and useful movement options, so it helps to practice with those so you can dodge the occasional enemy who gets into the back line. If there's constantly someone back there hassling you, I'll usually play a half-healer (Zenyatta or Ana) or skip out on healing entirely and grab a character who can self heal (Roadhog or Soldier 76.) Being a healer is lot more fun if you're in a team of friends that you're communicating with. I have noticed the same about the lack of close matches. I think what happens is that, once a team shatters, the tendency is to run back into the fight one-by-one and get slaughtered. Even for a team that's working together, it can be tough to get people to wait and group up. With pubbies, it's near impossible.
  19. Screenshots. Shots of your screen.

Looks like you've seen some more unique creatures than I. I wish NMS was this pretty in motion.
  20. Dota 2 - Summer 2016 Roster Shuffles

I wonder if DC holds together, or if the rejects will swallow their pride and go back to the teams that rejected them.
  21. No Man's Sky

Suit upgrades are more bang for your buck at a certain point, especially considering you don't get to sell your old ship. I think I'm in the last ship I'll ever buy, unless I come into a sudden flood of 6 million credits.
  22. Starbound

Server just went down, and it grinds to a halt about 2 minutes after login each time. Not sure why. Edit: Fixed
  23. Downloading the seed now. Edit: Woof, always felt like there's one more thing than I can get done with my colonists, and that one thing I can't get done was a disaster every time. I don't know if playing on higher difficulties is for me. The constant mood breaks if you don't build these huge rooms, but then the amount of time and resources it takes to build them or dig them. This is one problem I never had with dwarf fortress.
  24. Starbound

It was in some sort of weird hung state that wasn't detecting as totally down, so it didn't hit the auto-restart. I have just manually restarted and I'll see if I can do anything to make it more stable.
  25. Starbound

I just set up a new Starbound server hosted through GameServers.com. I paid for three months in advance, and we'll see how much it's getting used at that point. I'm also inviting friends from another podcast site that I frequent, as well as the company I normally play games with, so hopefully it'll be hopping.
