  1. I Had A Random Thought...

Besides ET, Home Alone and Goonies I have seen absolutely none of the movies you guys talk about above. I guess they didn't quite make it across the ponds? Anything worth watching as an "adult"?
  2. Half-Life 3

  3. Life

That is great news. Most likely a lot of lives saved by that. In other, even more happy (or at least lighter), news Iceland is building the first Norse temple to be constructed in over 1000 years. Apparently Asatro is the fastest growing religion on the island. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-31437973
  4. Life

There was an terrorist attack in Denmark today. One civilian dead, two wounded police officers. Apparently a lone gunman who seemed to target a Swedish artist who published some rather bad caricatures a couple of years back. Update: Two more people dead, including the gunman and a Jewish guard outside of a synagogue that became the second target. Several more wounded police officers.

Nah, we'd just do it over Skype
  7. Life

Well, she did have the best music video of all time.
  8. Wizaaaaaards!!

Wasn't there some kind of musician who took on the persona of a Wizard? I swear I saw him linked here somewhere on the forum, but now I can't find him.
  9. Thanks for the recommendation. I do prefer Merry Coristmas, Sergio as it is a slightly more directed experience. The extra interaction of having to find the exit of each area makes the space you explore feel like a world which has some unknown rules you need to figure out, however trivial it is in reality. 100 Free assets didn't hook me in quite the same way. In the beginning it felt quite interesting, but after realizing that the route I had started following didn't actually lead anywhere but a fall into the 3d void my engagement with the game broke.
  10. Haha, that's just a tad too early in the morning for me If another group is looking for players and is playing at a time that fits a little better I'm definitely up for it!
  11. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Heck yeah, Lisa Miskowsky! I just found a band I used to listen to a bunch when I was a younger: Exactly the blend between harshness and soft I appreciated so much.
  12. Life

Well, see it this way. At least the people who need to see those maps will be able to figure their way out if there's a problem! You might be a lifesaver!

    How 'bout Homeworld?
  14. An email I sent to Giantbomb

Yeah, I'm really enjoying this side of Dan and Danny so far. Has convinced me that I should pick up his next book.
  15. I Had A Random Thought...

I've been thinking a bit about the subjectivity of experience lately, specifically in regard to emotions. The thing is, I've realized that I don't really have a clue how a "healthy" human being is supposed to feel emotionally. Are we supposed to always have some kind of weighted background mood going, interspersed with burst of stronger emotions or are emotions supposed to pop up every now and then leaving a neutral, almost blank baseline behind them once they've gone away again? Are we supposed to feel something at all times? Most of the time? I guess this is something that is widely individual, but it's just something I've never really considered. I've just assumed that the way I experience emotions was more or less identical to the way others do. I find it odd that it's a conversation that (at least in these parts) doesn't really come up or go beyond "You should feel fine". Frequency, strength and duration of emotion was never something that has come up, which seems kind of weird considering how important it is for the well-being of people. Is there any kind of consensus around this or is it, like many things in psychology, a fairly fuzzy subject still?
  16. I Had a Random Thought (About Video Games)

I don't even play that many games anymore, but as I work in the games industry, listen to game podcasts, read game news and so on and on it is still the largest... context I take part in. I've started trying to break out of it slightly, shifting over to more varied types of podcasts to listen to on the way to work etc, but there's still some expectation to work on your skills and to keep up with the industry so it's going slowly.

Thinking about stepping back from gaming is pretty much my default activity

Damn, sometimes I'm almost glad my anxiety has pretty much shut down any ambition I have to get a relationship. Shit sounds hard.
  20. Serial - The Podcast

Yeah, false memories are real shitty. I remember the lesson we had on it during Psych 101. They told us about a case in Britain where extensive interrogations eventually convinced a father to think he had raped both of his daughters. There was also a big case (Which became big because of the monumental screw-up it was by the police) here in Sweden where a young man woke up to his girlfriend being stabbed to death in their kitchen. He flees the apartment down to his fathers apartment and calls the police from there, seeing his girlfriends murderer walk away from the building. Once the cops actually show up they arrest the boyfriend and just take him away. Don't even bother looking for another murderer despite being told the direction he went. So, after a few months of isolation and interrogations where the police forced him to watch pictures of his girlfriends body, he started to actually believe that he might have done it. Why else would the police be so determined that it was him (Even after finding blood from another man on the scene)? Why else wouldn't they have found someone else after so long? The murderer struck again however, causing the police to find a connection (the two victims and the murderer were foster kids who grew up together) and the boyfriend was set free. Worst thing is that the second murder and those months in interrogation could have been prevented if they had just sent one cop to check out the direction the murderer had walked in after the first murder. As he had been seen, he had assumed he was going to get caught at any time, so had just walked over to a bus stop (covered in blood) and sat down waiting for the cops to pick him up. It just shows how dangerous it is when law enforcement are so enormously sure of who did it that they disregard every other possibility.

I saw a Swedish Vanaman today. He was serving customers in the local state-owned liquor store and had a big tattoo on his lower left arm.
  22. Is It Wrong To Eat Meat?

I eat very little meat nowadays, such as when I've been invited for dinner at someone else's house or if I can't find any restaurants that have any vegetarian alternatives. This decrease has mostly come from me (and my family) taking offense to the way that the meat industry are raising most of their animals, rather than a opposition to the act of eating meat itself. I certainly recognize the other factors here as well (environmental, health etc) but the fact that they're treated so poorly is the big one for me.

  24. Recently completed video games

Finished Valiant Hearts just a few minutes ago. I quite liked this game, especially what it does to try and represent the realities of WW1. The game contains some of the best collectibles I've seen in games. Those little nuggets of history you receive are really interesting and add a bit more weight to the setting, well illustrated by you picking up a piece of cloth on the level that first features poison gas and learning that it is an urine soaked cloth, the closest thing soldiers had to a gas mask at that point in the war. I think it sometimes gets a bit too cartoony for it's own good (especially with regards to the big bad of the game (Baron von Dorf), but I think this is mainly a narrative concern. The art style I think does the job well in avoiding the game getting too grim for consumption, but also allowing for quite a bit of nastiness. Especially toward the end of the game, aided with some well done audio.
