This game looks fun but sadly my laptop doesn't have a numberpad, so I can't play it. Any chance of a build with alternate controls?
-
Well this is my artist Bandcamp page for my two albums, that might be better.

Ok, here is what I am going to do. Until I can get sounds to play in Twine (or whatever I end up using) I will have pages externally link to soundcloud pages playing the sounds. It's imperfect and breaks the tone but then at least I can do the rough version I wanted to get done today.

It's not even close to done. Lot of text is done but without the audio coding it's nonsensical, and I still have about 12 songs to write. I just wanted to have an unfinished version without any of the final songs in it up so I could have something up and give people an idea and not feel like I've wasted a bunch of hours on nothing. But even that required me to get audio working which is looking less and less likely (I am now working on method #3 which includes coding in javascript and using HTML5, which will probably end in disaster) so now I don't know. Maybe I'll just wait and use TyranoBuilder. EDIT: Yeah, this tutorial assumes I know more than nothing about Javascript. I'm just gonna put this whole project on hiatus until I can figure out a way to do it somewhere other than Twine.

It appears there are no audio processes in Twine that work on all browsers? If I made a game that only worked in Chrome and Opera would that be fine or would it not even be worth it?

I get e-mails with subject lines like "They murdered my son." and "He was crying 'please stop'" almost every day because I'm on some kind of Change.org mailing list. It's so incredibly off-putting, I wonder why they do it.

Can you imagine if you had a mutant for a child and you scrimped and saved to send them to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and they mail you back a uniform with boob pockets? "Yeah, you know what, on second thought, you're going to a trade school. You'll be a pipe-fitter who can talk to animals."

It's so weird that people put it like that. Like the fuzzy chronology wasn't totally intentional. I loved that, it added to the dreamy feel.

A Dedicated Thread For Talking About Star Trek Episodes
Patrick R replied to BigJKO's topic in Movies & Television
The original Star Trek had some great moments of wit. I watched "The Naked Time" again last night. "Please, not again." -

One of the locations of the store I work at is closing, so I'm picking up a ton of extra shifts at work, so I don't think I'm gonna finish this by the deadline. I'm hoping I can, I have Wednesday and Thursday off, so maybe I can crunch on those days. But I probably won't finish this until a little later. -

Thanks! I use a Shure SM58, with an Alesis Multimix 8 soundboard.

I recorded my adventures in foley work here. I figured if I had a mic going I might as well record myself talking about the process. If you just want to hear the resulting sounds, you can listen here. I posted the photos I took here. All that's left is to record some good sliding sounds and then to composite these sounds into the final game sfx.

That's actually the other thing for me: once I knew the mytharc stuff was going nowhere it became extremely hard to watch any of those episodes. Whenever I rewatch the series I always skip the mytharc stuff. For me it's all about Mulder and Scully's chemistry.

Idle Thumbs 206: Owen Wilson's Nose
Patrick R replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
I think I prefer podcasts that are just the same people each time but given how much else every individual person seems to have going on (I've assumed that Sean's regular absences are a result of being hard at work writing Firewatch, Chris has a jet-setting lifestyle flying all over the damn place, Danielle has all sorts of Polygon stuff in addition to working on a game of her own, Jake's always one week away from some major utility collapsing on him and Nick Breckon is Nick Breckon) it's a very reasonable approach. I assumed that the addition of Danielle as a regular was in part because you guys were too busy with Firewatch to be up on video games like you used to, and in that role (among many many others) she's been a great addition. If making Spaff a sixth thumb is a step further in that direction I'd be cool with that. At this point I still don't really know his voice really well, but I imagine the more he's on the more prominent it'll become. He just needs a nickname. -
I was exaggerating. I think there are maybe 5 good episodes in the first two seasons. But even the good ones aren't as good as what you'd later call the good ones.

I have a lower tolerance for television than most, I guess. Knowing the crazy heights of seasons 3 - 5, it's hard for me to dedicate time to watching the considerably more pedestrian seasons 1 and 2.

[Dev Log] What Happened To Us - a Twine game
Patrick R replied to Patrick R's topic in Wizard Jam 1 Archive
Exactly, that's what I got from your comment the first time. I need a way to trigger the memory that you made a mix CD for them (because that act is the meat of the game) that is less confusing. I'm trying to keep the prose as brief as humanly possible, but an extra sentence when the CD falls out might be helpful. Or maybe a CD doesn't fall out at all, maybe something else falls out that is connected to your memory of that mix CD. -

1. You are the same character the whole time but I need there to explain a reason that a mix CD you made for the other person is at your place. Or I need to find another way to trigger your character thinking about the mix CD. 2. It was an attempt to sound clever! Thank you for calling me out on it or I could have potentially left it in. Newer drafts are much less melodramatic. The past few days I've reframed the narrative to be less about the tragedy of break-ups to the more specific way that the arc of relationships follows an atrophy of momentum. Less generically mopey, more specific = good. 3. The decision to keep the CD is registered but I hadn't yet figured out how to track variables when I made that build, so the only difference right now is slightly different dialogue (you keep it, it tells you about your character, you put it back it tells you something about your ex's). But you are right that it's not 100% clear that the Hawkeye comic is in the box of your ex's stuff. -
Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Just got to Hell for the first time! Today's was a very generous Daily Challenge. -
The thing is that you'd have to go through almost a year of bad episodes before this show starts to get good.

Also think about some of your favorite lyrics of all time and then write them down and read them out loud, unaffected. Chances are they won't mean that much divorced from music. -
That will require two things: one script to play the sound, one script to time it out until it ends, Sound is definitely doable it just takes a little monkeying around to make sure your sound files are in the right place and everything is timed out correctly.

We can remaster him. We have the technology.

I don't know if "the hipster playing the original Tetris on an original Gameboy" is having a better experience than you playing on the 3DS, but they are definitely having a DIFFERENT experience, which automatically means that it's not obsolete. Not if you care at all about game history.- 25 replies
