HALLOWEENIE MOVIE COUNTDOWN Today I watched Hotel Transylvania after putting it off for a year. I wanted to see it because of Genndy Tartakovsky directing, but didn't want to see it because of Adam Sandler starring. The result is this weird mixed bag of occasional moments of brilliance lost somewhere in a sea of terrible generic CGI cartoon crap and inexplicable and repeated use of the word "zing". Ending with the obligatory cartoon dance party (culminating in Adam Sandler's Dracula rap) is just the icing on the "would not recommend" cake.

Friday the 13th for NES (real answer: a combination of Sweet Home and Luigi's Mansion)

Yes, yes, yes! Halloween is my favourite time of the year (and as a nice bonus, it's only about a week before my birthday). I've made a tradition of booking the day off of work and watching no fewer than two old Universal monster movies. Thus far I've done Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Mummy, Bride of Frankenstein, and The Wolfman; plus I always watch the Night on Bald Mountain sequence from Fantasia. This year I'm probably going to have to break tradition and find something besides Universal movies. I'm thinking maybe something with aliens or Scooby-Doo.

Oh hey, so I guess they just announced a second Mega-Evolution for Charizard that's exclusive to X. I'm guessing there'll be more version-exclusive Megas than previously expected. The best part? It's finally Fire/Dragon.

In the Nintendo Direct they said that you'd only be able to get to the item shop after a certain point, so presumably the first part of the game will still be linear. So I played Attack of the Friday Monsters, which is a damned good game outside of the inexplicable card game parts. I'm a sucker for laid-back games, short games, and stuff set in 1970s Japan though, so... Gonna' try to 100% it now.

Kirby games are supposed to be ridiculously easy. It's no coincidence that Kirby didn't appear on the NES until after the SNES had come out and NESes the world over were being passed down to little siblings. I played it, and I think the scenario might be demo-exclusive. The judge even comments on the fact that they don't have much time because they're in a demo version.

You know, I got to hear from the guy who originally made that quote, and he was actually trying to satirize ridiculous video game review pull quotes.

So apparently the Wii U just got an update a few hours ago that lets you play Wii games off-TV on the gamepad, though you still need a Wiimote and nunchuk. Cool! Also, Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct in 10 minutes.

I have that same bag! I use it all the time and I love it. It was a Japanese Platinum reward from a few years back, which is also why it has a weird engrish translation of the lyrics to Ai no Uta on it.

I had a dream last night that I was a heckler in the audience for a standup comedian who was complaining about the way faces look in anime. I have no idea what sequence of events could possibly have led to me having this dream.

Oh, by the way: today is the fifteenth anniversary of the North American release of Pokémon Red and Blue. Pokémon is almost old enough to drive.

I want a video like that for every classic thumbs moment.

Thus far we know that Xerneas, Swirlix, Clauncher, and Mewtwonite X are X-exclusive while Yveltal, Spritzee, Skrelp, and Mewtwonite Y are unique to Y. I'm picking X because I really like the idea of a Fairy-type legendary, but I've been really tempted to get Y. The reason for the unusually tight lips this generation is more due to both a simultaneous global launch and the fact that nobody's been able to hack 3DS carts, so there's no data dump beforehand like there has been in the past.

That too. Man, this game's got its hooks in me. I'm trying to savour it and not overdo it, but you pretty much end every day wanting to play through another. I've got three captains, three types of Pikmin, and a good two weeks or so of juice ready. Also, in fucking classic Idle Thumbs Pikmin 2 style...

I actually could use a couple of Eevees. I wish I had a Dream World female for breeding, but at least I got a sweet Magic Bounce Espeon out of my Dream World male.
