  1. R.I.P. Ryan Davis

Looks like they are putting a bunch of the great quicklooks with Ryan up on the front page. Really fun to watch them again. I miss that guy, what an amazing loveable asshole.
  2. I think I may be one of the few people who purchased a wiiu after E3, but for Bayonetta 2, which is not a Nintendo game. I don't expect much discussion of it on the cast though, I don't think anyone on it is into that kind of action game. I am quite enjoying mario kart and windwaker though, for sure.
  3. Feminism

Agreed. I have mixed thoughts on the criticism leveled against them, but would like to see them (likely Jeff, again) respond. They may still, it is important to get the community under control.
  4. Feminism

Many have probably already seen this, but Jeff posted something on the site in response to this: http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/letter-from-the-editor-07-02-2014/1100-4948/ Sounds like as a result of this, GB is going to start taking rules/moderation more seriously on their forums
  5. Feminism

There's all sorts of scuttlebutt around the internet over this, as there always is, but it seems that at least some of the hate directed towards people who were criticizing giant bomb came from reddit's "mens rights" community, which is full of assholes, and not actually from people in the GB community. I'm sure some of it was though, which is unfortunate, but I have seen some pretty terrible stuff said on the GB forums occasionally. Glad that Jeff & co responded though. Wrt the actual hiring, I think Dan and Jason seem great, but also that that is a nonissue.
  6. Nier: Gestalt - Nier and yet so far

yeah I used them for a bit because they are the best, statwise, weapons I have, but I much prefer the 1h moveset. I know I don't have to upgrade anything, It's just my tendency to min/max and upgrade anything and everything I can in any game, which isn't always the best way to play.
  7. New trailer!!! The game is now episodic, and the first part (called Book One: Reborn, the first five episodes) will be out this Fall, which is very exciting. Minor spoiler (for Dreamfall, the original) wrt the trailer (not sure if that needs to be in spoiler tags or not, but better safe than sorry)
  8. Nier: Gestalt - Nier and yet so far

It took me a while to figure out the fishing bit too, and then I never fished again. But I do really love it, except im doing something right now that I probably shouldn't, which is trying to farm a random item spawn to upgrade a weapon, when I could just finish the game with my current weapon just fine. I want to upgrade the phoenix dagger because it seems like the best 1 handed sword, and I don't like the 2h swords or spears. I really like the way the game though.
  9. Nier: Gestalt - Nier and yet so far

Going to bring this great back from the dead. I am just playing this game now, and I really like it. It is ugly (visually, it looks bad, there is no other way to put it) and the gameplay isn't amazing, but the game's structure and story and some of the really weird things it does (Forest of Myth, or Emil's Mansion are examples) make me really like it I think I am a bit over halfway through my first playthrough, i'm collecting some stone tablet fragments. From what i've heard, there are multiple endings for repeated playthroughs. It has been suggested that I play it twice, and then watch the remaining endings on youtube.
  10. Areal (aka S.T.A.L.K.E.R. / Metro 3.0)

Well, I love the STALKER games, and Metro was well, but, more than anything else that would make me think it is a scam is the fact that they are only asking for $50k (not to say that I do think it is a scam, but that seems like the most dubious part of the whole thing). Even with outside funding, what is a $50k kickstarter going to give them? It isn't really proof of interest on a large scale, and not really much money to contribute to the game's development, if the game is anything like STALKER. I dunno. Hopefully they make a great game.
  11. Dune

Oh yes, that's it, thanks. I'm glad that's true.
  12. Idle Digging - Shovel Knight

Has anyone said that they really dig this game yet?
  13. Idle Digging - Shovel Knight

I just watched giant bomb's quicklook of this, and it does look really good. I'm going to get it on steam for sure, though perhaps not immediately as I am playing other things right now.
  14. PlayStation+

I read that as "Muramasa 2" at first and was excited before I realized what you meant. That game was good (I played it on my friend's wii). Would be neat if it comes to PSN on not vita.
  15. Idle Thumbs 163: A B C D E3

steam is so much easier but im still jealous of this. I do have BG2 and TOB on CD, as well as the manuals, but not the boxes. I do have a boxed (open ofc) copy of Planescape Torment though.
  16. Nintendo Network ID Exchange Thread

Is there a way to add friends via a browser? or do I have to wait till I get home
  17. Dune

As I have stated elsewhere, Dune is one of my favorite books. I read it for the first time in 5th grade, found it on the shelf in the classroom, and have since reread it a few times, each time getting more out of it. It's really gratifying to hear that people who's literary opinions I respect like it, like seeing The Argobot tweet about it (it feels weird to call someone by their forums name when referring to them on twitter, if not the same). I have read Dune Messiah, and while I didn't disklie it, it didn't make a lasting impression on me. Should you choose to read it and the other sequels, I'd be very interested in your thoughts about it. I have heard that the later books (God Emperor?) get better. I also recall an anecdote, I think as part of a version of Dune I got from a library, saying that Herbert went to 15 or 16 other publishers before getting it published, and the first publisher was an automotive manual publisher. I haven't been able to find much to verify that one way or the other, but, if true, it is an amusing tale.
  18. Destiny

I think that has changed since previous statements from bungie indicated it would never come to PC. Sounds like it would be more likely now, but no plans. I think I will likely not purchase it on console (I don't own one yet anway, but will likely end up with a PS4 eventually for Bloodborne, and probably axiom verge as well)
  19. Idle Thumbs 163: A B C D E3

it does, esp visually. But I'm with Jeff Gerstmann, I think, in that I think the yoshi egg aiming mechanic is bad. Never been a big yoshi fan, gameplay wise or really... at all.
  20. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I think I have probably talked you to death about dark souls on irc, as is my wont, but yeah, I think you will enjoy 2 for sure. Hopefully it will go on sale.
  21. Idle Thumbs 163: A B C D E3

"Ruin your slogo today" sounds like something senor cardgage of homestarrunner dot com would say
  22. Idle Thumbs 163: A B C D E3

Dune is one of my favorite books. I think part of that is because its amazing, part of that is because it was a pretty formative reading experience for me, I read it for the first time in 4th or 5th grade, it was on the bookshelf in the classroom. I have since read it again, I think twice. I never got into the rest of the books though, I read its direct sequel, Dune Messiah, don't recall a whole lot about that. But Dune itself stands alone very well. I've often wondered why required high school reading doesn't incorporate some classic scifi like Dune, or perhaps Asimov.
  23. Idle Thumbs 163: A B C D E3

So, the star citizen discussion on this episode reminded me of something I wanted to talk about from the last time it was discussed, but forgot to. I have been peripheralyl aware of star citizen, but haven't looked into it at all, and found it super baffling and sort of unconsicously dismissed it as a game for crazy people, I'd look into it once it came out. Most of the discussion did nothing to dissuade me of that notion, but Chris mentioned "hardpoints" and suddenly, and very strangely, something clicked. I thought to myself "oh, hardpoints!" and felt more comfortable with the game was, and the realized what a weird reaction that was. The familiarity with that comes from the fact that I used to play a lot of EVE, but the fact that that single word triggered that is strange. More germaine to this episode, one of the reader mails mentioned "high sec, low sec, null sec" which is a concept that, as a former eve player, is also incredibly familiar. All in all, simply referencing things I recall from EVE, even though I no longer play that, made this crazy game make more sense to me, or at least feel like it makes more sense. I'll probably buy it once there is a concrete thing I can buy, however long that takes. In unrelated news, I love that bungie talk brings up old mac games, like Marathon and even Pathways into Darkness. As a kid, we had macs in the house, and that is what I grew up playing games on, so I love to hear Jake talk about old mac gaming.
  24. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I had forgotten about that game, it did look cool but at the time I had no intention at all of getting a wiiu, now that I have one though I'll have to get it. I do like pretty much every game Kamiya makes. Unfortunately no. It was peach and someone else. Toad maybe. That dude is a mushroom.
  25. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I think Nintendo still has a lot of work to do on selling the wiiu to the general public, people who don't follow video games. I was talking to a coworker last night about how I had just bought one, and apparently he thought it was a portable system, that it was just the tablet. Most of the people I talk to about video game related things also follow it to some extent, so I hadn't actually heard from anyone about not knowing what the Wiiu was, but it seems like Nintendo's messaging is still unclear, or hasn't gotten out at least. In other news, Mario Kart is bullshit. It's great, but I WAS IN FIRST AND THEN GOT HIT BY A RED SHELL NEXT TO THE FINISH LINE AND SPUN OUT AND 2 GUYS PASSED ME AND I GOT THIRD WHATS WITH THAT. As I said, bullshit.
