  1. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

Taking a cue from Valve. Could just be guilt.
  2. Spelunky!

Well it was free and I have a... spending problem with Steam.
  3. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

Word of warning. With the DSfix mod (essential) you will get weird lines in the initial menus. I'm not sure why, but they don't appear in game. Also I would advise not increasing the frame rate, per the warnings. The game doesn't launch when I try.
  4. Was I the only one a little sad that the Spelunky talk was stifled? Also, my mp3 player is set up to loop all of the tracks in their folder. This being the only mp3 in that folder, the beginning of the podcast looped about 3 times, which slightly confused me because I couldn't tell if there were slight variations to each intro. Does the podcast save any of our progress or is every intro the same?
  5. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

If you're playing on PC you might need to install a couple essential mods for it not to look like garbage. http://darksouls.nexusmods.com/mods/top//?
  6. Spelunky!

Well, I finally beat the original free version of Spelunky. Now I can buy the real version (it was a deal I made with myself).
  7. Now under Lord Remo Crusader Kings II becomes available in the latest humble bundle. Don't act like you didn't have anything to do with that. Truly we have entered a golden age.
  8. The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

The characters had a hard enough time getting truly invested in what they were doing. The consistent theme of the book was the ennui of the upper class, which is understandable why it could be hard to read.
  9. Books, books, books...

    Excellent. And an excellent book.
  10. eReaders - What is everyone's thoughts?

My preferred method of reading is actually audiobook if only because I had a severe eye injury in college. While I recovered my sight, my eyes dry out really quickly and become bloodshot. Having a job where I stare at a computer all day and then going home to my hobbies which involve staring at another screen, I have a hard time reading afterward. I used to hate the idea of ereaders until I got my hands on a Kindle. I have a Kindle 3 now and love it. I still read a lot of paper books, mostly because I owned a lot of books beforehand and we have a really good library system. The big push for me was having to move a lot. I got really sick of packing and transporting over six double-stacked bookshelves' worth of books. My first move after getting the Kindle was to donate most of my public domain books to the library and just download them. Now I'm in the process of whittling down my collection book by book as I read them. Only the really special ones will remain. The one thing I will miss is the old book smell. Can't beat it. My wife has a Kindle Fire HD which works well for her purposes but if I were to try reading from it for long periods of time my eyes would erupt into blood fountains. I like that my Kindle 3 has no backlight. Unfortunately my wife piggybacks onto my Amazon account so now I have a huge library of romance novels associated with my name. On a side note I think it's interesting most people are using a new medium to read the older classics, whereas a lot of modern novels are still purchased in the classic paper format.
  11. I'm listening to the audio book version (disc based from my library). It's a perfectly fine listen. Not too dense so I can listen to it at work. I'm about halfway through. Really liking it so far. There are a couple moments where the book becomes a bit of a slog but for the most part it is really engrossing.
  12. Life

    Congratulations.
  13. Quitter's Club: Don't be afraid to quit the book

The problem is that there was supposed to be a time skip. George didn't seem to have the heart to do it so many of the events in these books were originally going to be summed up in a hundred pages or so. I didn't mind Feast but it was nowhere near the quality of the first three books. I think in Dance he started to get his momentum back, but it's as if he's stalling his characters so they will follow his originally planned timeline. None of his books are abysmal and I'm thoroughly invested in the characters so I will soldier on.
  14. Plug your shit

Woah, I like this. Just noticed it but voted for it on Greenlight.
  15. Quitter's Club: Don't be afraid to quit the book

This makes me sad. I'm surprised you got through Feast because to me that was the boring one.
  16. Quitter's Club: Don't be afraid to quit the book

I don't quit books. Except Joyce. I can quit Joyce. But I still have a niggling feeling in the back of my head that I'm going to revisit Ulysses. Please stop me. No good can come of this.
  17. Fez 2

So sad this wasn't a thing.
  18. Fez 2

I find his stuff to be amusing but I never base any of my opinions solely on his reviews. I only get irritated when he attacks the developers and calls them idiots. That's usually a sign of someone who doesn't realize how much work goes into making a polished game (and I used polished because I know he made a couple low-end games in the past).
  19. Fez 2

Cut to a middle-aged Billy, who is letting his kid play with a lighter and a bottle of pills while he gives some indie guy the what for online. Priorities.
  20. Fez 2

The question is why did I even bother trying to surf the tide when I know the wave is made of diarrhea. I should have expected to get dirty.
  21. Fez 2

Wow. I really stepped in it when I posted similar thoughts on a gaming forum. I am now a brownnoser, fanboy, and lying shithead (when I said I haven't played Fez before). I don't even recall excusing any of Fish's behavior. It's a good thing that the rest of the internet isn't as opinionated, loud and impulsive as that Phil Fish guy.
  22. Fez 2

When did we become the children from Lord of the Flies? People are taking way too much pleasure stabbing at a guy they never met and don't often think about.
  23. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

Dark Souls was toned down a little from it's predecessor Demon's Souls as far as difficulty is concerned. For most of the boss battles you are able to hang back and observe the boss' movements and attack patterns. Take your time and be defensive, and focus on mobility rather than armor. With this approach you can usually defeat bosses in 1-2 attempts. Also, summoning other players usually is an "easy mode" button, but will also teach you the strategy used to kill bosses.
  24. Just picked up The Flamethrowers from the library. Excited to read it from all the praise I've been hearing.
  25. Fez 2

Social media creates artists by bringing them notice and destroys them by delivering the bile of several hundred people to those artists. I'm with Fish on this one but not with his hasty reactions (which I would have been guilty of doing if I were in his place).
