  1. Yeah I gotta made sure to go get this game!
  2. Ouya: Ooooh Yeah!

I don't think that's really a fair comment. The Ouya is basically the hardware analog to the Nexus 7. It has basically the same Tegra 2 guts. So you should probably expect similar performance to what you see on those things. They appear to have slapped a HUGE fan on there. I am assuming that's so they could take the clockspeed of the GPU up for some better fill rate for 1080p displays. Until someone actually has software running on it I think it's to early to judge stuff like hardware performance (but it's not going to be spectacular we are talking about the same kind of hardware running a budget tablet, albeit a good one). The controllers look pretty lame but this is first run hardware [face_shrug] We'll have to see how it ends up. I hope they end up slipping the ship date. I do not think 3 months is enough time for them to iron this out into an acceptable launch product.
  3. I should probably go get that HD collection....
  4. I'm not really sure. I don't think it was to bad now that you mention it. To be honest the games that would always chunk out where usually sprite based and silvergun was primarily polys. I just tend to list that one off when I am thinking of games where bullets fill the screen.
  5. Yeah games like Radiant Silvergun might actually be impossible without slowdown, There are just so many bullets onscreen if it was moving along at any more then 20FPS I don't know how you would possibly be able to track all that.
  6. Actually a lot of times it makes games easier to play. A lot of times it depends on how the game itself decides to handle input at the engine level. Lots of engines will run their Input loop seperate of their render loop meaning you're going to be getting reasonably accurate feeling control despite a crazy framey mess. I can actually remember quite a few NES era games (contra) that became MUCH easier once the frame rate started to tank.
  7. GOTY

I thought he said he was leaving after that project had completed. Like I said earlier in the thread I think it will be amazing if we ever see this game at all.
  8. GOTY

I feel like at this point that's a rumor not an actual video game. I would actually be surprised if it makes this gen. I'm starting to think we may not end up seeing it at all..
  9. New Laptop gaming question

What is the status of the on live service after all the issues they had earlier this year? Are they planning to operate independently for the foreseeable future?
  10. I think they did an amazing job making Argo an npc and not just a vehicle. I am totally down to replay this one! I still have my old ps2 copy but this seems to be a great excuse to buy the reissue. Have we decided on the 1st as a start date? I think a game club sounds like an awesome idea! I think we should be knocking off at least 2 to 3 collosi a month. That way we can make it through more then just one game a year!
  11. Chivalry: What's Inside This Dude?

Yeah the limbs coming off was a lot more novel back in its day. Now I am sure it probably feels pretty dated.
  12. Half-Life 3

If it ran on Linux it would run everywhere cause it would be on an ogl render path. One of the reasons there is so little Linux gaming is due to the historical dominance of the direct x platform. I bet hl3 is not exclusive anywhere cause that's dumb. However I bet it ends yup running best on ogl under Linux cause that kind of platform agnostic approach is what valve currently seems interested in.
  13. Chivalry: What's Inside This Dude?

I don't recall it being anything super amazing even at the time. I was just grabbed by the setting and idea of a melee combat game with those mechanics. Also Vikings. I'm really just not so into the medieval western settings in most of these melee mp focused games.
  14. The Nintendo Wii U is Great Thread

I kind of enjoy the wah wah simply for how ridiculous people feel it is.
  15. I loved all the criticism of FC3 in this weeks podcast [face_shrug] I generally like when people are able to intelligently criticize a game that appears to be a pretty solid technically and competent in it's core player interface mechanics (runnin, shooting, etc). I have a harder time when the discussion turns to more emergent or experimental types of games. Lots of times I have a hard time putting a bead on how "good" many of those games are. They are all interesting experiments and that novelty will go a long way to someone fascinated with gaming as a medium but I have a hard time judging them objectively. When I play something like cart life something inside me says "I should really like this!" but in reality I'm bored to tears...
  16. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

I was a slacker backer and haven't bothered watching the production episodes yet. Now that all of this has gone down I plan on logging in and checking out what they've had posted so far. Should make for a pretty good Christmas eve marathon.
  17. Curiosity – What's Inside the Cube?

How close is this thing to being clicked through? I wonder if they're still adding layers in to artificially enhance the length.
  18. Polygon (internet website)

Polygon actually replaced Kotaku in my RSS feed simply because it's more manageable as a "news ticker". Polygon probably has a 55/45 signal/noise ratio. Ends up beating the 10/90% junkfest that kotaku has become. Also looks pretty. It's nothing new, I don't think anyone serious about video games really thought it would be.
  19. Chivalry: What's Inside This Dude?

Brilliant thread title! I noticed this is on steam sale today but I don't think I would play enough to warrant purchase. I still wish someone would make a new version of Rune That was my favorite melee combat game!
  20. Tiny & Big: Grandpa's Leftovers

    Purchased!
  21. Curiosity – What's Inside the Cube?

After reading that I just feel like whatever is inside the cube is being procedurally generated using the data they're getting from people playing the game. That makes it even less likely that it's life changing in any kind of significant manner.
  22. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Want to quote and surface some of that for those of us that don't feel like mining the thread? HL1 was sort of the quintessential lonely immersive experience for me. The only thing I remember hating, even at the time of it's release, was the horrible reliance on jumping puzzles and just in general jumping and *RAHGHGHGHHGHH!!!* Jump Crouching to move through the environment. However when you go back to that era I think you'll find that kind of jump based level design in almost all FPS'es in that generation. It's like the ghost of platformers in the general gaming machine at that time. Outside of that I really really loved the first Half Life (second Half Life is a different story)
  23. Recently completed video games

Pretty recently I went through most of that game. I love the art and the narrative style of the game. However I think there are some really bad puzzles in there where you are apparently just supposed to basically make guesses without clues from the environment.
