Idle Thumbs Asks: What Is the Best Video Game of All Time?
Badfinger replied to posh_somme's topic in Video Gaming
This further confirms for me that my thought patterns most closely follow Jake's (at least for most topics covered by Idle Thumbs). I strongly disagreed with the Sean/Chris tack taken in the opening minutes because my brain said "If you ask a college kid what the best movie is, what are they going to answer?" When I was in college I'm sure you could find two people in every dorm that thought Boondock Saints was objectively the best movie. I do understand the thought process and the reasoning given, but that's not where my brain was going. In the Grand Theft Auto vein of "a game we don't want to discuss but should" I think Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is extremely high on that list. You can probably trace the fact that sports broadcasters read off ads for video games coming out of commercial breaks pretty directly to MW. In the "Mario Brothers" vein of games that have made both historical and cultural impacts, I submit Pacman and Civilization. -
CONGRATS CHRIS. AND SARAH! That is awesome, I am happy for you. e: derp I posted this right as Chris was making announcements. Man I'd hang out with basically anyone in New Orleans. Certainly Thumbs.

I feel like I walked in on all the students at Valve High School who discovered a new illicit substance and are all out back looking over their shoulders constantly making crazy deals to buy and sell it. What the hell are you kids doing?! I use Steam constantly and I have like 300ish worth of gems if I turned all these stupid cards into them.

I really dislike that little conversational chestnut. "Oh man, I really have (some physical issue that is real but not horrible)" 'You shouldn't complain, you don't have cancer.' I... what? Yes that is true. And I am well aware I do not nor do I have it as bad as someone with a terminal illness. The body has more threshold levels that it sends unpleasant signals back to you besides "fine" and "cancer". It's the same as "you should be grateful just to have a job". Yes, I am grateful to have a job. No, I do not feel overwhelmingly thankful and blessed JUST to be employed when it is a stressful and underwhelming job. Even when there are people who have worse employment situations than me! Doubly especially do not say this shit when you are the person employing me.

I am excited that Fullbright has partnered with Toyota to make a game about a Toyota Tacoma, the rugged highland vehicle able to cross the Tacoma Narrows bridge even under the most severe harmonic frequency disturbances.

Should we form a group, or do a friends thing? I can definitely use some guidance and friends. I have been playing in open play. Aside from having to wait to dock at smaller facilities and the laughably harrowing entries and exits from the stations I haven't felt impacted by the fact that I've only been able to play for 3ish hours. I'm making some money and I found out where my Eagle is though!

All of those things remind me of Darths and Droids. Which I haven't read in a while. http://www.darthsanddroids.net/ http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0001.html

lust is also an emotion.

It's been a while since I did a world of warcraft, but everyone is talking really highly of WoD. Question: if we did battletags or whatever, are you able to group with people cross realm (on purpose, I know you can randomly) to do a dungeon or something?
-
I'm really glad you are able to post that today. I was pretty worried about you last night. vvv Canada is technically North America so I guess you're technically correct. There's nothing wrong with US hospitals? They're good. The healthcare system red tape is shitty.

Hey Grayson, how are you doing? How was your walk tonight?

Assassins Creed: Syndicate - knees up mother brown
Badfinger replied to melmer's topic in Video Gaming
I bought Revelations in a Steam sale but didn't play it. I skipped AC3 entirely. Those decisions paid off in spades when Black Flag came out. I have never played an Assassin's Creed I didn't love. Due to being aggressively selective, it remains one of my favorite series.- 76 replies

Hey I want you to know this isn't getting lost in Austin chat. I don't know that I have something prescient to say, but if you need to talk we're listening.

Pikmin are the best though? -
Isn't being fired the precise reason unemployment exists? I didn't even apply for unemployment benefits because I willingly walked away from a job. I thought that's how it worked!
-
Nope, they haven't been. Believe it or not, there have been years when big releases weren't buggy garbage or boring retreads! You should definitely listen to the old ones.

I am going to share a secret with you: rapping is not the necessary component to having a rap name
-
That music. It was good.
-
Oh no. I meant the actual real Star Wars Theme in the actual real trailer. Removing the timpani is Real Bad.
-
Ok, it's been bugging me. They replaced the timpani in the original theme with some sort of weird possibly electronic reverberating bass. It's either really poorly mixed or just a poor choice.

Dan is a fat, old guy? You are making me feel fat, and old. I think Dan is a big, dumb, idiot, but I also believe that he has completely revitalized the content GB SF is producing. They announced they were going to play MGS, and Dan was like "We're going to play all the MGS games" and everyone did the audio version of staring and shaking their head but they've made like 20 Metal Gear Scanlon videos. They do the "Jeff gets to be his wise ass self" longform with Mario Party schadenfreude. The Demo Derby is a legitimately new take on their content. As weird as it is to say though, I think there need to be more than 4 voices on the Bombcast. Brad isn't as willing to go hog wild as Ryan was as the host, and Drew filling the space of Brad is less dynamic in a conversational sense because he has less directive by the nature of his job to play all kinds of video games. The thing about Jeff being the one who always has wacky antics to talk about is that he's EXTREMELY self-aware of how the world probably sees him. Also Vinny. Hey, Small Business Owner...

Thankfully very few people consider "American" to be a race, and those that do can be safely ignored literally forever.
-
I'm not sure how this could be construed as racist. Classist or nationalist possibly? There are plenty of white Americans who are either actually poor or have very little financial freedom who will happily vote against their best interests every single time. See: The seemingly endless parade of people across the spectrum against socialized healthcare who it would benefit enormously. Why? Because a rich white dude said it was bad for America. It's almost comical how stark the difference in support is for healthcare when it's called the Affordable Care Act vs Obamacare. Once upon a time the modern day AC stuff was actually going somewhere. AC2 had a great in-animus ending along with a wonderful build up, and Brotherhood was such an incredible mind fuck. I was excited to find out where things went from there, and unfortunately learned that the answer was "into the garbage". With that said, I was legitimately interested in the modern day stuff they did with Black Flag, which is most certainly the main reason I'll be ending up with Rogue at some point.- 76 replies
