  1. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

I actually meant that Jedi (at least in the New Jedi Order) use the force to CREATE the lightsaber. Without being properly Force'd, the crystals that make the beam don't work or break down in short order. It's still all mythical and magical, but it has Fake Science in there so that you can have a laser sword. I'll also be the killjoy that says they didn't like the double bladed lightsaber (Obi Wan should not approve, it's not a dueling, gentleman's weapon), and I think a lightwhip is dumb for reasons I can't explain except I dislike that too.
  2. An email I sent to Giantbomb

I think about his last bombcast way, way more than is probably healthy for a guy who just listens to podcasts from people across the country. It's incredible to me how much Giant Bomb has helped me align my moral compass over the past 4 years or so. I actually mean that in a good way. Giant Bomb has helped me cope with things at times, but it's also helped me heal and grow in ways that were likely never intended.
  3. My impression, from your explanation of OTC, is that it is the Supreme Commander of economic games. You look at it and say, "I know what this is! I love this, because I love building a giant robot!" Then you play it and everyone seems to be building stuff faster than you, and you realize you don't reeeeally know how mass and energy work, and why do my extractors keep shutting off? If you stick with it and dig in, you get a layer of base construction depth that isn't there with C&C or Starcraft, but that's because they are skinned the same but are actually a completely different game. So that makes me excited about it. I haven't gotten to the Molyneux section of the cast yet, but from my time reading John Walker's stuff this seems basically par for the course. He has never seemed afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve, or to be brash, pushy, or demanding in interviews. This also isn't the first time he's interviewed Molyneux. So my impression from it (I read most but not all) is that is normal Walker, and Molyneux 100% needs to have some shade thrown at him. Those things, however, don't necessarily coexist in a productive or useful fashion.
  4. Anyone Remember?

It's earlier than Episode 50 because I'm relistening to all of them and I heard it and I'm on 50 now. Where's the search database link thingie? We can just search for pizza. e: Nice, I guessed Ep 36 and it's Ep 37. We'll be right back after this pizza.
  5. Life

    1) Why isn't the toaster somewhere suitable, like on the counter making a horrible mess with crumbs at all times? 2) A toast? Is this the weird "make a coffee" slowly creeping into other usages?
  6. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

They have to use to force to make it, though. It's part of becoming a jedi!
  7. Star Wars VII - Open spoilers

Why? If you accept the Force is a real thing in the world, that actually makes basic sense (as opposed to like 80% of all fantasy).
  8. I Had A Random Thought...

I am pretty sure I've never seen The Princess Bride all the way through, and I have never even heard of whatever Surf Ninjas is. To make up for this faux pas I never knew I was committing, I watched 3 Ninjas as a kid an awful lot. The Goonies scared me as a lil' kid. It's nearly literally Temple of Doom Jr, considering Short Round is in it. Police Squad is an all time classic TV show somehow only lasting 6 episodes.
  9. I Had A Random Thought...

    Kangaroo Jack.
  10. Didactic Thumbs (Pedantry Corner)

He was being a pedant! That is this thread's equivalent of fun!
  11. Dota Today 16: Blitz

I really enjoyed this episode. I thought the insight on just how deep Blitz has gone on matchups was very revealing. In the last few weeks I've seen some websites and sketchy ads for ~IMPROVING YOUR GAME DRAMATICALLY~, and in that light it's especially funny. Is there any reliable data on Dota MMR distribution? Something in the conversation made me want to poke into it, and there was nothing out there really.
  12. Idle Food - Cooking!

Do you have any idea for what kind of flavor was missing? Maybe add some tomato? How did you feel about the seasoning? Sometimes just properly adding salt and pepper does it for me.
  13. Life

I don't think you're ready for this chili.
  14. Didactic Thumbs (Pedantry Corner)

That's interesting. In terms of Romantic/Germanic language consonants aren't really capable of being their own syllable. I know essentially nothing about any Asiatic languages, though. I suppose there are African/Eastern languages where glottal stops are entirely part of the phraseology.
  15. Elite: Dangerous (Kickstarter)

I am starting to feel like this is a game I'm glad exists and that I own, but every time I think about deciding to load it up in the evening, I don't. :/
  16. Didactic Thumbs (Pedantry Corner)

This discussion sounds an awful lot like it's swerving into diphthongs and glottal stops, some of my favorite pedantries. "Seh-n-pah-ee" sounds like it's 3 syllables with a glottal stop.
  17. Didactic Thumbs (Pedantry Corner)

That was actually just a Metal Gear Solid reference (A game I have never played). I know nearly nothing about any Asian languages, and precious little about most of the Romantic or Germanic ones, either. Shame, really.
  18. Didactic Thumbs (Pedantry Corner)

  19. Super Metroid Appreciation Station

If we were purely ranking Metroid games based on the criterion "Amount of hours Badfinger has invested into each game" then this would be true. I really like that game. It is a much more linear experience than Super, yes, but as far as gameplay feel I think it's the closest. I put a lot of hours into that one college semester.
  20. World of Warcraft

I really like it, but I think I might let my sub run out and see if I miss it. I kind of hit a weird gear break point where I'm not in a standard raiding group so I need to put myself out there to dedicate time to improving gear without a group to build around. When I think about a game I've put too much time into but want to play at the moment, it's League of Legends instead of WoW.
  21. I Had A Random Thought...

    Hooray!
  22. Life

They got nominated this year, and won a few years ago. I have never watched or paid attention to the Grammys, I just happened to be on Twitter right when James Urbaniak was retweeting a bunch of 15 year olds that didn't know who Beck was, and that piqued my curiosity to look at nominations. My favorite album from last year got nominated, so I guess 100% of people aren't clueless? I suppose it's like when Jethro Tull won best Metal album. In summary I don't understand award shows.
  23. Idle Food - Cooking!

I decided I was going to be lazy and not pound out or bread the chicken, and then I did anyway and it was completely worth it. Just did provolone instead of making mozzarella, and doused it all with sauce because I wanted it to taste good more than I wanted a picture of tv-style chicken. Definitely recommend making tomato sauce. Surprisingly easy! I almost got the giant can of San Marzano tomatoes and then talked myself out of it. Wish I had, really.
  24. I Had A Random Thought...

You and I are agreeing with different words.
  25. Life

I love the term BTU. "Instead of pounds, we're going to call them Imperial Weight Items."
