Idle Cook Club - Veggie Feeds-me: My Body Is Ready
Badfinger replied to SuperBiasedMan's topic in Idle Banter
Oooh cook club! I would like to cook things! It looks like the idea has become refined in the few posts it took me to go from top to bottom, but I like the idea of a concept/dish rather than a recipe? I am very much interested in trying vegetarian dishes and branching out, but your idea of lasagna jolted something in my brain to try a really traditional bolognese-ish lasagna, because I never ever make lasagna. To expand on what I'm suggesting, if it was my turn and I was craving beef stew I wouldn't suggest "beef stew". I would suggest "Irish stew" and then you could start from this base for a veggie Irish stew (literally just the first google result to explain my idea), or I could add beef, or fish, etc and see what variations we get? It looks like that's your idea already SBM, because you posted the shepherd's pie recipe and augmented it? Anyway yes Cook Club. -
Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan

I don't know how they end up voting but it is KILLING me that Brad just fucking refuses to play music from anything other than level 1 from Crypt of the Necrodancer trying to make his case. He didn't bring up the hot/cold swap on level 3, or that the bosses all have music gimmicks that give it so much more variety than just "Danny B Club". He should be fighting for it to win the category (because they didn't even nominate Nuclear Throne somehow) and it's on the verge of being dropped for motherfucking Metal Gear. He's telling instead of showing in the BEST MUSIC CATEGORY.- 1367 replies

I also grew up calling that console the Super Nintendo. SNES sounds weird to me but it just rolls off now. I definitely had that reaction at first. vvv Nintendo Super Nintendo Genesis (I don't even know if I knew what a Sega Saturn was) (no one had a Dreamcast that's so sad probably just Dreamcast) Playstation PS2 Nintendo 64: "En sixty-four" Also all of these consoles are early enough in the history of video games that they can plausibly fall under "THAT NINTENDO" as in "Why don't you go outside instead of spending all your time on That Nintendo?"

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated
Badfinger replied to Erkki's topic in Idle Banter
Had a scary artifact-y crash on Sunday similar to yours, Justin. Pulled the cover off the beast, scared something had broken. Checked cpu fan- giant fan still good! Checked GPU fan - not working. Oh crap this is either expensive or a long stretch of downtime during the RMA. Turns out the 970's passive cooling is so good the fans don't spin until it gets >55c. Ran speedfan to make sure temps weren't completely crazy, made sure the airflow was good, put the cover back on. Seems ok?! -
I don't think you are, I feel like I'm the outlier somehow which is crazy to me. I don't even feel that excited about many AAA games this year. I liked Fallout for a while, but I didn't play - Bloodborne, AC, MGS, Just Cause, Call of Duty, and my list of games I'm excited about from this year is still so long. I felt extremely excited about a lot of games in 2012 as well. I'm definitely in the Dishonored & XCOM camp. 2016 should be fun as well!

I feel strong disagreement with the first part of this statement, but as someone incredibly disappointed with post-release support and the direction they seem to be taking the game, the initial release of the expansion was still so strong I think it's worth your money and time to try out at that price.
-
I bought the game over a year ago, when they were doing serious balance testing and two of the final characters on the roster weren't even in the game. The random option was there, so it felt like the best way to test stuff was to just dive in and find out. Crowns weren't even a thing at that point, which means they basically don't exist to me. Just conceptually they're not in the forefront of my mind.

Holy smokes I didn't even put Destiny on my list, and i played that game to the exclusivity of nearly everything else for an entire month. I should also probably add Elite because even though all I do is bitch about it in the thread* I managed to lose a huge part of this past weekend to the game when I was "supposed" to be playing Pillars of Eternity, as mentioned also incredible. I'm surprised people feel down about this year's games. There seem like there are such a large variety of games that are truly good at what they do. Rocket League just passed Spelunky for me on hours played this weekend. Strong testament to the staying power of Car Hockey. *Sorry to all the people in the Elite thread. There is the kernel of something incredible obscured by the vastness and aimlessness of an entire available galaxy.
-
I have only made it to level 7 (6?) once ever. The one with the green goo monsters all over the place. I don't play this game very carefully. Like Spelunky, I bomb around until I die, lament that I could have done better, then hit random and start again.

There were so many good games this year. Cities: Skylines Helldivers Ori And The Blind Forest Pillars of Eternity Axiom Verge Crypt of the Necrodancer Nuclear Throne Her Story Rocket League Fallout 4 but the game of the year, and would have been in so many years is Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. So, sooooo good. GOTD And I haven't even (for various reasons) played The Swindle, Invisible, Inc., Undertale, MGS V, Starcraft LOTV, AC: Syndicate, Rebel Galaxy, Beginner's Guide, so much less 80 Days than it deserved, Lara Croft Go, and a lot of other stuff. What a good year for video games holy crap.

My frustration comes with the breadth of what "spoilers" encompasses. Saying something like "Oh that's a good episode" or "I didn't know (X) was in this!" is a spoiler to some people. I promise I am not making that up. It's dumb that virtually any piece of information about a work could be a spoiler to someone.

Upgraded from Viper Mk 3 to Viper Mk 4. This is probably not the ideal hull for flying around resource nodes to bounty hunt, but it's by far the biggest ship I've owned and it's kinda fun to clunk around in a spacetank. Honestly I'm probably better off with a Cobra, but hey. e: and after saying that out loud to myself, that's what I did. Swapped to a Cobra. I have the money, it's a game, might as well try it!
-
Oh my fucking god there's ONE place to buy a gimballed laser? I just want lasers for my small hardpoints on my viper. Thank god it's under 150 ly e: I feel like I'm always whining. The game IS gorgeous.

My girlfriend's had to move back in with her parents and it's making her miserable. They're passive aggressive, manipulative, and controlling. She feels trapped, and I'm beside myself. She says just going along with what they say doesn't change how they act towards her, but when I suggested breaking out of that loop and saying no once in a while she reacted really violently against it. I know saying "Well just don't do that. Change your behavior" is almost less than useless, but the alternatives are either ignoring it and letting things stay the way they are out of inaction, or agreeing that it's ok this is the way things are which is just disgusting. We're meeting them at their house for brunch in an hour or so. I say "we" and "meeting" except she got a vague text message saying she should be there "earlyish" to help with undefined tasks. Rather than saying "we'll see you at noon!" we both got upset and she's already there. This is a meal that they're hosting for about a dozen people, but we're providing a cured salmon, dessert, and all the alcohol. Literally asked them to provide one 12 pack of beer and they declined. I'm so frustrated, and when I say I'm upset she keeps thinking it's being upset with her for introducing stress. I just want to yell at them to not be fucking petulant children about their daughter.

Episode 336: Star Wars: Rebellion
Badfinger replied to Rob Zacny's topic in Three Moves Ahead Episodes
I LOVED Rebellion in high school. I am honestly shocked people thought less than highly of it. All the characters, world capturing, and fleet building was incredible. Training Jedi, moving capitals, infiltrating planets. I remember building the biggest ships you could muster, and flooding dozens of squadrons of fighters into a battle. So awesome. -
Is there some sort of database I can use to find equipment? I'd like to get gimballed lasers but I don't really know where to look.
-
No the point was that I was purposefully downloading other peoples' control schemes and putting them in the bindings file and they weren't showing up. But now they work, so that's one step forward. But the cool little compass rose that pops up for context sensitive stuff... that doesn't seem to be working? Does that only work with a default control scheme, because that's really sad. One step back. I'm still running in 32 bit as well.

I was sent this recipe for vegan Navratan Korma after it got rave reviews, and I'm excited to try it. The thing that I'm most cautious about is who makes like 4 cups of something in a slow cooker! I'd probably quadruple that recipe. Slow cookers kind of simplify some of the same techniques you'd use in braising something, so they are almost always going to require a liquid of some sort even if it's just water. http://healthyslowcooking.com/2015/01/20/slow-cooker-navtatan-korma/

Yeah part of force training (in EU stuff) is learning how to build a lightsaber, which requires Force manipulation to fuse the parts and create a basically infinite power source and etc etc etc etc, but the blade itself is just a thing. You could use a halberd to cut down a tree but infantry can use it for more complicated things, that sort of stuff. You probably couldn't use a halberd to cut down a tree. Maybe some really rough pruning?

Jack is not a well drink, but yeah it's not premium. If you as for "jack and coke" as opposed to whiskey and coke you're not going to get charged more but it doesn't usually show up on happy hour specials. You wanna go down the hole of well-known-but-expensive whiskys? Johnnie Walker.

So I just happened to get bitten by the bug to try Elite again, because someone mentioned playing it with a game pad and that was suddenly appealing to me. It seems like I've accidentally stumbled into the game in its most broken state in ~2 years. Congrats, me! For reference - Windows 10, game appears to run fine, but only in 32 bit mode (64 will not launch anything), my copy is installed through Steam, and I do not have the expansion. Ok so! I tried the controller in the training missions so I didn't throw a million credits into the garbage crashing my ship, and it's almost good. One control scheme has good buttons, one has good sticks, and I'll be honest I'll be fucked to spend the time going through every option and rebinding it EXCEPT Yaw, which I apparently cannot rebind but was my biggest issue. Then I saw people had downloads that you could install into the options folder. Does that work? I found a control scheme I'm interested to try and it seemed like I was following every instruction, but the only control scheme I could make show up was for a PS4 controller, and only once in let's call it 10 hard restarts of the game. I think that MIGHT be the only way to get me playing again, and either assigning sticks to yaw/roll is broken, or it's always like this and broken as intended. Two questions - How do I get 64 bit mode working? How do I install custom control schemes?

There aren't any "E"s in Crown Royal. I will drink a 7 & 7 from time to time.
-
Ninety-Three you probably don't want to keep playing, because you just answered every question in exactly the same way - with what mechanical advantage it gave you. If all you're trying to do is game the rewards system to get an extra point in sword swinging, this is not that game. OR, this might unlock your brain from being lockstep with More = Better Than - It might also make you stop forever.

This is my default place to start now. They give me some grounding about how to make a decision. http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-wi-fi-router/ -
I feel like it's implied that R2-D2 woke up when Rey got there. You'd think if the map piece was the key it would have tripped their first time there. She seemed pretty straightforward as the stormtrooper commander for me. It seems eminently reasonable that her actions are limited in the movie. The commander isn't leading every detachment of troops on skirmishes. By having her be believable though, that limits her role in the movie.
