Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.
Badfinger replied to Tanukitsune's topic in Video Gaming
I bought Salt and Sanctuary on the back of people saying it had some very Vania aspects in it. I like 2d RPGs, I love Castlevania and Metroid. I quit and refunded S&S at the first boss. I was really angry because I feel like I was just lied to. I saw some reviews suggest that it's "not souls enough" for a love letter to Souls. It's 100% souls. No tutorial, no descriptions for what the different classes are, bullshit fight mechanics. The only thing that's Castlevania about it is it's not 3D. Fuck that game. I was really excited about getting it and I'm so fucking mad I got tricked. Fuck that game. -
Overwatch - That time Blizzard made a non-Diablocraft game.
Badfinger replied to Henroid's topic in Video Gaming
I don't know the exact breakdown, but whenever those numbers went out that was just about top quartile. I got a 46 going 6-4 in placements (still salty it should have probably been 7-3), and it said 70th percentile for me. I don't know if that's nearly the distribution anymore. e: looks like no, not even close. The distribution has become more spread out. We're in the sadness zone. I guess I don't know how good at Overwatch I actually am, but my feeling is I should be higher. Getting a sub-50 ranking made me not really want to play competitive. -

I'm a little bit weirded out by how Blizzard has chosen to roll out the MMR ranking for competitive mode. Almost everybody got placed basically between 40-60, which means that being ranked with someone just a few points different could mean a significant difference in skill. The online stat tracking sites indicate that high 40s is well above 70th percentile for ranked. I'm sure Blizzard feels that the rankings will naturally spread out to where they're "supposed" to be, but a well above average player seeing themselves in the 40s on a 1-100 scale has to be confusing or frustrating. -

I will try to get pictures, we made what I'll call potato and chickpea curry over rice. Really good! I cooked up a little on the side with some chicken thighs. Happy with the outcome. -

I finished listening to that podcast. It's full of quite good information, I'd recommend it if you're interested in the lawyer's perspective. -

Gotcha, if you posted that I missed it. My apologies. Keep working on it! -

A 750W 80+ Gold PSU is hilarious overkill for an i3 and a GTX 960. You'll be fine. If there's a legitimate price difference something in the 500-650 range will do you fine. If your PSU is NOT the problem, I'd keep it. If you still have concern, definitely check sites with different wattage. For reference I'm running an i5-2500K (older, more power hungry architecture) with a 970 and 4 hard drives on an Antec 500W and it's fine. I am going to again suggest before you buy more stuff to remove the motherboard from the case and plug everything in one at a time next to it (like on a static shield bag) and see if it posts. -

Valve has been providing tech support because these sites are using a Valve API. I'm not suggesting Valve should be absolvered, but if the sites weren't under heavy scrutiny right now no one would be concerned with Valve's tech and back end involvement. This current scandal is about the way in which the site owners conducted business and not the way money or other tokens of value are introduced into the system. Should there be regulation? Almost certainly. Will Valve end up on the regulated side of things? We shall see, hopefully. I went to idlethumbs.casino and was pleased. I am also pleased by the introduction of new musical flourishes. Per Video Game Attorney (@mrryanmorrison), who was my gateway into learning about this crazy scandal, besides the outrage that they're skirting legality to allow children to gamble, the lack of disclosure is Very Extremely Illegal and if the FTC comes down hard on the guys who own the website they could very well face jail time. He did an extremely long podcast/interview that discusses this stuff. I'm just now diving into it. -
Has the split always been AGDQ Prevent Cancer Foundation and SGDQ MSF? I do think SGDQ has always had a slightly more relaxed vibe even though the events are virtually identical. I'm very happy that they're supporting MSF. Even though a cure for cancer is a very near, dear, and important subject for me, the disconnect between the serious nature of the disease and charity and an announcer cheerfully yelling "$9 FROM TOADHAT WHO SAYS "MY GREAT AUNT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER. THANK YOU FOR CRUSHIFYING GEX SO GOOD THAT IT IS LITERALLY OBLITERATED. KILL THE ANIMALS." has always left me with a slightly queasy feeling. I turned the stream on right at the end of Half Coordinated's run, and it was someone giving him a big hug, some tears, and the audience clapping. I wasn't sure if it was something really happy or really, really sad. I was relieved to find out it was very positive. Is the camera bugging anyone else this year? I couldn't put a pin in it, but then I realized it looked like every runner was so shy they couldn't possibly face the audience when in reality it's just set up 3 feet above their faces.

Stellaris: Iron Victoria Europa Kings in space!
Badfinger replied to Cordeos's topic in Strategy Game Discussion
I knew there had been one big patch, I hadn't realized they've already cranked out two. Lots and lots of balance changes. So yes, there have definitely been UI/UX improvements! It's still a very pretty game. It sounds like they're focusing on the barren "mid-game" for the next patch? I've never made it to what I'd consider mid game yet, so no personal opinions. I wasn't able to find a more recent dev diary than May, so if anyone has a good round up on what the next patch is and whether it's "worth" waiting for it I'd be much obliged. -

I started a new game last night that I played for about 30-45 minutes before passing out. Either they've tightened up the interface or it actually surfaces more than I remembered. The tutorial is great. I just picked Generic Humans and starting in the Sol system gives it that very Civilization feel. Who knows if I'll continue to play long enough to run into the things that people still have issues with, but I remembered last night how fun the feeling of that first couple of hours is. -
HELP: Attempted upgrade of PC gone wrong
Badfinger replied to PileOfMeatballs's topic in Idle Banter
My guess is also the power supply, except that it worked for another computer. It's generally not the wattage, you can get a 700w PSU for like $25 bucks (they're garbage to be clear, but you can get a lot of watts for cheap). Generally the problems are the amperage on the 12v rails (for the fans and gpu) and the ability to sustain a power load. I've had thermaltake psus, they're pretty good, and looking at yours it's an 80 bronze rating. The pedigree isn't the issue, it just might be a baddy. If you haven't boxed everything back up yet, my last ditch suggestion would be take the motherboard out of the case and see if it POSTs. You might be getting a weird short somewhere. -
It turns out there are still potentially dozens of game hours after you hit the point of no return. It is by no means closed off, it just prohibits you from doing story beats that would have an impact on plot outcomes. You WILL be level 30 by the time you get done that sequence.

Looking at the schedule, there is a LOT of Any% on the docket this year. It's possible they're making an effort to either show off as many games as possible or keep the event moving, or both. There aren't many games whose estimated run is over an hour and even fewer over 90 minutes. The games I'm generally most interested in from a technical perspective are some of the ones you mentioned. I was happy to catch Dishonored last night just happening to tune in. Games on the same engine or built in a similar style can all be broken similarly. Bioshock and Dishonored are both UE games for example, so clipping level geometry or memory caching or loading should theoretically work close to the same for both. The Mario 3 or Super Metroid runs where they literally reprogram the game to beat it in 3 minutes feel like the exception to older games. It might be my perception as well, but the newer the game the more exploitable it seems to me. Especially on PC. I feel like ever since I've been watching, people have been backwards bunny hopping through entire levels of geometry though.

Oh gosh Fallout 4 was much worse. I did have to do some weight management, but I just used console commands in fallout after a while. Witcher 3 v1.0 was still hands down slam dunk touchdown goty 2015 even if the inventory was fiddly. The only thing keeping me from playing the expansion literally this second is I think when I was doing a bevy of formats and OS installs it wiped my download and thus my save file.

A lot of people I know and whose opinions I respect count Matty G as one of the more unlistenable and tone deaf people in politics punditry. That doesn't mean the second he writes anything that makes it without merit, but whenever I see his byline I set out a salt lick to go beside it.

The RPG Heroes bundle is on sale for $.57. I don't understand how that even works. All but one of the products are on sale individually for more than that. I understand saving with a bundle but that seems extreme.

Idle Streaming Community: Twitchy, Tasty
Badfinger replied to Problem Machine's topic in Video Gaming
I really enjoyed your stream, PM. good exposition while you played. I am also trying to develop a schedule for streaming. I think it's going to be my next hobby goal once I move! I'll have to establish a time and what I'm playing, but I'm excited about it. I'm having a lot of trouble with stream quality, though. Thumbs running the same games on similar hardware are suggesting they're getting much higher quality. I was trying to stream overwatch and it was choppy compared to a barely faster processor. I don't know if I'm just more aware of how much cpu processing is getting chomped or if I'm actually maxing out when other people aren't. Frustrating. e: Problem Machine, how did you land on your streaming schedule? -
My sister gets married on Friday and I'm moving into a house with my girlfriend in two weeks. Life is just happening so hard all over the place right now.

They learned! THEY LEARNED! "Stand by for Titanfall" gets me way more hyped than I would have anticipated in 2016. The game looks beautiful. The first impressions write ups also paint it favorably. Excited.

I'm having trouble following what you're saying. Are you saying you believe this to be the case, or journalists are saying this is the case, or journalists are suggesting that those things are positive outcomes for her? It's gross but true that world events benefit people's agendas. It's different to say that people interpolate political outcomes before those things might happen, and different still to suggest the people who would benefit from tragedy are secretly influencing or hoping for those things. I'm also not sure what evidence there is to suggest Clinton would definitely would do hawkish things specifically before doing socially progressive things. I may be ignorant to that!
