  1. Board Games?

Machiavelli is known as Citadels outside of the Netherlands I think. Very good game indeed. Ticket to Ride I'm not so hot on, though I find it hard to articulate why. Maybe it's just because I did poorly the last few times I played it. I'm a sore loser if I didn't get to affect the game in any way.
  2. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

Just finished this. I am floored. Gorgeous, affecting and funny. My only complaint is that all the excellent segments are connected in a very disjointed manner - there's very little rhyme or reason for what follows what.
  3. Learning Languages from Games

I beefed up my Polish by playing the Witcher in Polish with subtitles.
  4. Life

Sorry about your troubles Zeus. It's a shitty system.

  6. She must really like the performance.
  7. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

Magicka single-player is really not all that fun. It only truly shines with a bunch of friends who are either in the same room or on voice chat together. The chaos you get that way is amazing especially if people start experimenting to find all the weird combinations.
  8. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I find it incredibly refreshing to be in a game world where it's clearly not the case that everything revolves around me.
  9. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

While I mostly agree Rodi, the castle segments in the Souls games are a great exception to me. No other game evokes the feeling of visiting ancient castles in reality as well as these games do.
  10. Wizards literally used to do this (and still may but I'm out of the loop). Hearthstone looks interesting but I feel that the common mistake in games like this is to allow direct attacking of creatures by other creatures. The decision whether or not to block is too interesting to eliminate in my opinion. I understand why they did it like this (no necessary player interaction on opponent's turn) but I don't like it. Anyway, I'm signed up but haven't got a key yet. This turns out to be a good thing because I'm having way too much fun with Faeria anyway.

  12. Idle Thumbs 129: A Reminder

I think they only really hit it big once they switched to Minecraft.
  13. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

    Hey man, Twigger-warning that shit.
  14. Idle Thumbs 129: A Reminder

I would never have gotten into the Souls games without having watched Squint's excellent Demon's Souls LP. Similarly, Jerusalem's amazing tale of Scottish conquest showed me how much fun it is possible to have by completely subverting a game's intentions (and got me to sign up for SA to boot). To me good LPs have always been about showing me things I could never get to myself, either because I don't own (nor want to) a particular console/game or don't have the skills or creativity. Other examples include the Boatmurdered saga in Dwarf Fortress and the hate-filled playthrough of Daikatana by Proteus and Suspicious.
  15. Gone Home from The Fullbright Company

My wife does not play that many games and I had to convince her that it was not a scary game at several points while she was playing through it. She loved it
  16. QUILTBAG Thread of Flagrant Homoeroticism

    The Many disagree.
  17. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I guess I wasn't clear. I completely agree that the lack of waypointing is probably one of the main obstacles to people getting into the game. What I meant was that, to me, this actually enhances the game in the long term. But a message of some sort making clear to the player that "if you are frustrated by an area/boss there is probably another area you can explore as well" would probably be a good thing.
  18. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

To me it's part of the beauty of Dark Souls that you almost always have multiple options for progression. And since the only thing holding you back is player skill, the only real obstacle is yourself. Of course that's not to say that there isn't an easiest/most convenient path.
  19. Feminism

Yeah, it 's been super encouraging to read some people getting educated by the shrapnel of informed posts bouncing off tsh.
  20. Rocksmith

Fuck. I was holding out so far but this is tempting.
  21. Eldritch

I've been unable to get through the 2nd book so far, and don't feel like going through the trivial first book again for the bonus health from fountains. Those bloody snake statues get me all the time when I'm not paying attention.
  22. Tone Control is a Podcast!

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.
  23. Dark Souls(Demon's Souls successor)

I have literally never died to the archers because I was spoiled thoroughly about them by everyone's bitching.
  24. Faëria - a tactical hex CCG

Did you try Pox Nora, TLB? That's the closest analogue I've played, though this game has some rather different ideas about the map and deck.
  25. Faëria - a tactical hex CCG

Be sure to hit me up if you see me online Laco I already have spares of quite a few commons (the 50-cost starter decks are absolute steals to get started with).
