  1. Books, books, books...

That doesn't make the experience of actually reading the book any better though. Like, having an entire hefty book be basically all bullshit lies just so you can score points down the road is not good writing. Plus, what Gorm said :fistbump:
  2. Life

    Much strength Bjorn.
  3. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

On the bright side, there's basically nothing to buy so I end up spending net less on switch games
  4. Books, books, books...

Well of course he learns everything super fast and amazingly because of how awesome he is etc so it's actually more grating to me. At least with the upbringing you can sort of get the idea he spent some actual time on practise.
  5. Books, books, books...

There's a bunch of discussion here https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/topic/10281-the-kingkiller-chronicle-name-of-the-wind-the-wise-mans-fear/ In general the meandering Gary Stu nature of Kvother is amped up to the nth degree in the sequel, along with nothing happening to actually progress the arc of his story. He learns stuff, gets out of trouble, nothing of import happens. It's all set-up, no pay-off.
  6. Books, books, books...

The sequel is a lot worse if that's any comfort.
  7. Life

It's still unfathomable to me how people can have been so unhappy under VVD rule and happily vote for them again. Like, they cause the problems and are rewarded with power, it's just depressing.
  8. Night in the Woods

This just came out and it is fricking adorable, dark, funny and absolutely gorgeous. There's so many layers of interest to it I had to stop because it was getting a bit rich and I wanted to take some time to process. Search didn't turn anything up about this game so here's a thread. I think anyone who digs Firewatch should love this.
  9. Night in the Woods

This game also is a wonderful example of how to do politics in games right. Instead of adjusting tax sliders you get to experience the life of people and a town affected by them. And the characters know it and comment on it.
  10. Night in the Woods

Are you on PS4? The load times on my PC were almost instant. I'm definitely playing through this again with my wife, hopefully she'll choose differently than I did and I'll get to see more of the things I missed. I think the stargazing, both with the old guy and with the young guy (spoilers left intentionally vague) was some of the most affecting to me. That and the poetry session. It's also amazing to just not have good choices sometimes, but in a way that felt way more meaningful than it often does in games, possibly because the characters in NITW are so well-realised you don't want to fuck up. I don't think a game has made me gush so much since Gone Home.
  11. The Next President

    Oof, sounds positively medieval.
  12. Night in the Woods

He & his wife publish it as Finji co. He's also the lead on the Demon Tower minigame (which is kickin' rad except for the stunlocks).
  13. Night in the Woods

Anyway, buy + play this game it's fucking rad. Best writing since Firewatch, probably better IMO (sorry).
  14. Night in the Woods

ALSO this game has achievements that kinda actually feel like having achieved something? Like they are mostly the result of doing a cool/good thing. At least the ones I got. Pretty proud of the palecat one, not gonna lie. See thread tags.
  15. Night in the Woods

    Spoilers: @Jake's in the credits
  16. Night in the Woods

Just finished it. I have all the feels. Goshdarn I love this game. EEEEEEEELS
  17. Quitter's Club: Don't be ashamed to quit the game.

The Shadowrun games improve with each iteration IMO. The first one is more of a proof of concept than anything, though it's a good one. I played the first one so long ago I don't remember exactly which quibbles got fixed with each one though, so ymmv.
  18. Rocksmith

    the cable is the same
  19. DEVLOG - Moby

That's a great improvement, lovely work.
  20. Fire Emblem Heroes (iOS/Android)

The solution to knights is usually mages for me. I also run at least one -def/res character in almost every setup because of them. Alternatively have some tanks of your own, and then use characters that have ignore-def/res specials that can hide behind them.
  21. The Big VR Thread

Amazing, Palmer did yet another thing to show what a crapper he is? The Rift is really tainted by being associated with him.
  22. DEVLOG - Moby

I gotta say that grass background is giving me eyestrain, way too busy.
  23. Simple solution to leaderboards in your games.

I know I'd prefer not to be reliant on either Google or Apple for anything. Replacing that dependency with some random dude's server isn't really an upgrade either though, probably.
  24. The Witness by Jonathan Blow

Wonderful video, thanks for posting it. Somehow those 20 seconds of nothing near the end were something I dearly needed, really brightened my mood. For all Mr. Blow's twattiness in some dimensions, he's definitely made some excellent games, with actual meaning for those that seek it.
