Idle Thumbs Criterion Film Club?
TychoCelchuuu replied to TychoCelchuuu's topic in Movies & Television
Yes. I'll update the official list at some point before your turn. We don't need to cut off the Kanal conversation just because we start another one. The issue with one movie every two weeks is that it will take forever to get through everyone. Remember that you can skip your week if you don't have any time right now, and just move to the bottom of the list.- 127 replies

He's also dead so that's like, another black mark in the "marry Vincent Price" plan notebook.

Topics only I believe. Video Games Taco is defunct but it's a video game podcast with women.

Idle Criterion Film Club Week 2: Kanal (1957)
TychoCelchuuu replied to Patrick R's topic in Movies & Television
Like Roderick (very briefly) mentioned, I really liked how over and over again the Germans had apparently dropped gas into the sewers, because people were always fleeing from it and warning the soldiers not to go on ahead, but they always push on and there's never any gas, just a sewer that's all too happy to swallow them. To me that was sort of a microcosm of the whole movie. Even though obviously what you ought to do is retreat in the face of the gas (otherwise you will just choke and die), it turns out you can ignore the warnings and simultaneously be fine (no gas kills you) but also undone (because there is no escape waiting for you). There's hope and relief in the sense that you always manage to avoid the danger you're expecting, but also a deep hopelessness inherent in the situation t hat you just make worse by pushing forward and discovering that things are safe. -

That's what got some Inglourious Basterds killed. -
So, I mean, surely you must agree that somewhere in the world there are at least two women who are qualified for the job, right? You don't think there are literally no women who could do the job, I imagine. So wouldn't it have made sense to hold out for those two women?

I feel sort of bad continuing a derail, but as an American I just go in knowing I'm going to tip 20%. I don't care what the server's performance is like. So it's not like I'm sitting there judging them the whole time.

Your friend sounds like an outlier or a libertarian. In the latter case, he should be all for the freedom of a private business to refuse to provide certain health care services to its employees, because as far as libertarians are concerned, businesses can do whatever they want because the market will sort it out. They don't want the government telling private businesses what they can and can't do.

If Steve Gaynor counted as a member then surely Danielle already does. -

Did the part in the podcast where Sean talked about how he did the same thing not clue you in that this was happening? -

Via the Something Awful thread for game podcasts I remembered the video I had wanted to see: http://www.polygon.com/2014/6/12/5802816/battlefield-hardline-gameplay-e3-2014 -

I don't disagree at all about the sale price or anything but it's worth pointing out that Capsule has been for sale on its really cool website for like, at least a year or two now. Games exist outside of Steam, folks! I feel like there was some video or something that this podcast referenced and which I wanted someone to post in the thread but I can't remember what it is. So uh, if anyone would go ahead and just post literally every video or whatever mentioned in the podcast, I'll shuffle through them and find whatever it is I wanted. Thanks in advance. -
Enemy Starfighter is coming soon too.
