Ahh okay, thanks! I'm adding that to my list of world clocks to keep track of.

Does anyone have any insight in terms of does the daily challenge happen in a specific time zone or something? It is surprisingly hard to find information about this, and it has always been unclear to me how this works. I live on the West Coast, and when I get home from work and fire up a game the Daily Challenge is typically a day in advance of the day I am actually playing the game. It gets confusing!

I got really greedy and was killed by the ghost on 1-2. It would have been really impressive if I had narrowly avoided it, but I didn't. Unfortunately I also have nothing to show for in terms of video as I did something dumb while messing with the settings on OBS, and only recorded audio and not video.

I picked up Atom Zombie Smasher and Sid Meier's Pirates! for a little under $5.

I finally got around to watching Tarkovsky's Stalker. Pretty spectacular if you're into slow-as-molasses paced Soviet cinema, and probably worth checking out if you were a fan of the video game.

Not just Chris' first victory at Spelunky, but a pretty inspirational win at that, seeing as how he got to the Olmec level without any bombs, and didn't totally grasp all the mechanics of how the Olmec head operates, That should be a cause for celebration among all Spelunky players. No matter how bad your situation seems, you still have a reasonable chance of pulling through.

This is easily the best alpha game I've ever played. Can't wait to see what the finished version looks like when the game is already this strong! The narration for this game is really strong.

Nope, I'm sure there are plenty of us that are hopelessly addicted to this game and can listen to people talk about it all day. Of course there are always the naysayers as well...

The spike shoes are a pretty high priority item for me. Being able to kill most things with a single jump saves me from a lot of potential damage.

Me and the ice caves seem to not get along during the Daily Challenge. It was especially bad when I was perfectly well equipped for them today... I also discovered I need to turn my microphone way up. http://www.twitch.tv/sclpls/b/473561120

Yeah, I haven't gotten there yet, but I'm excited to see how New Game + mode works out. The PC Gamer review basically said it should have been the default mode for the game...

They were self-conscious about bringing up Far Cry 2 for awhile though!

I'm not clear on how I can ask questions. I would like to ask questions to be answered on this podcast! For cocktails while playing strategy games I'm partial to the SF Gold Rush. It's a variation of the Gold Rush which is bourbon, lemon, and honey, but you add a teaspoon of Fernet. The Fernet adds an herbal note to an already delicious cocktail that makes it really easy to fool yourself into thinking it's healthy for you to drink this.

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any news to that effect. As best I can tell it is exclusive to Steam, presumably because Steam can access your friend's list, which there isn't any analog to for GOG. So I wouldn't count on that feature appearing unless they were to redo their website and infrastructure.

I kind of feel like you should have gone into full spoiler territory with the Stanley Parable (with appropriate warning or whatever). Here's my reasoning behind this: Not a big deal, but if I knew someone that knew nothing about the Stanley Parable, I would probably recommend they just go play the game before listening to this episode (and they should play it!) I really like the point that Jake (I think?) brought up about the game simultaneously like poking fun at video game conventions while also reveling in them. I think the developers struck a perfect balance here that so many AAA studios seem to have fallen on the wrong side of. GTA V and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon are two examples that jump to mind of games that get that sort of thing wrong. Those are games that force you to engage in some irritating convention while making fun of how dumb that convention is. That just feels irritating and cynical. What the Stanley Parable does, and this is an important distinction, is it is just really good at pointing out all the weird conventions that we accept are weird but are also like not necessarily obtrusive. The game never asks you to do something you would find annoying to do though, and that's why I think it is more successful as being humorous and critical about video games.

Video evidence of my sudden lapse in the ability to use my brain to do things: http://www.twitch.tv/sclpls/b/472645600

Okay, I started the 3rd book and I take back what I said about the game being too easy. I got stressed out enough to have to stop, and come back to the game later! So far everything comes together really nicely. I hope lots of people pick this up so it can continue to be supported as it would be sweet to see this game develop and evolve overtime, it's such a strong foundation for a lot of really good mechanics.

I was doing pretty well until I got to the ice caves, had a brain fart, and jumped straight into the abyss.

This... but hey, at least it will look amazing.

Yeah, FCC complaints about TV shows are great. SNL complaints are strongly recommended. Nearly any era.

This game is 20% off for the next few days so if anyone was contemplating grabbing it, I recommend doing so now. It doesn't seem super challenging at the moment, but it is definitely a lot of fun so I don't really care!

Oh, so I have another interview request since that seems to be something that is happening in this thread. I played Eldritch last night, and it was cool. If you could interview David and J. Kyle Pittman that would be rad!

Apologies if this has been posted already, but if you're curious about how Spelunky's procedural generation of levels there is a great breakdown of that process here: http://tinysubversions.com/spelunkyGen/

I like that this received a commercial release in the same year as Gone Home, and both games moved lots of copies. 2013 is the year of cool first person exploration games with excellent voice acting.
