It's because the site was founded by the infamous bandit El Loco
  2. Neverending Nightmares

Sweet, I never read the updates so it's entirely possible I would never have noticed. Been having a hankering to play some horror games, this will be awesome.

    Ahahahahahaahahahhahahahah these kids holy shit
  4. Feminism

I think that train has sailed
  5. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

I dunno that I agree with that per se, since I believe that the truth is important, but more like... the deeper truth of why this is the truth people care about is more important than the shallow and tedious 'truth' behind the IGF. There's a system of politics behind the truths that people demand, and more importantly those that don't: Exposing the truth behind that system of politics should generally take priority over exposing more 'trendy' truths.
  6. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

You know, I locally blocked access to The Escapist when I saw that the Zoe Quinn thread was up to like 5000 responses and my blood started to boil, and I think I'm just gonna... leave that block up indefinitely.
  7. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

I liked that one too, which I guess places us in the distinct minority. I still think it's intrinsically hilarious seeing Skinner/Temzarian take to being a worthless bum with the exact same stoic sense of duty he took to being a son/principal.
  8. Feminism

Fuck. I know one of the people who showed up in the logs there. Not a friend, thankfully, just someone I talked to in IRC for a while, but godfuckingdammit. So angry.
  9. Idlethumbs changed my life forever

Dude Clem's hat has a D on it. It's perfect.
  10. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Maddy Myers on surviving gaters. Almost physically painful to read. Important.
  11. Ello.co

Sounds neat but I'm so bad at twittering in the first place that I'll just wait and see if it becomes a thing.
  12. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

    wow awesome gj

Greg Costikyan weighs in with a nuanced take on the controversy
  14. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

Well that's one reading yeah, and that's why I think it's mostly useful as just an introduction to the idea rather than a comprehensive metaphor.
  15. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

You know, it didn't occur to me until now that Homer's Enemy is a pretty good intro to the idea of privilege
  16. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

But, I mean... isn't that implied by the very idea of evaluating art?
  17. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Patreon is barely plausible as even a conflict of interest -- calling it 'corruption' verges on ludicrous. Yeah, journalists might be more inclined to view a project they've financially supported favorably -- they also probably have favorite genres, favorite developers/studios (even if they've never met/had sex with them), favorite consoles and control schemes and rendering styles. It's a huge fucking stretch to call any of that systemic bias, when having opinions like that is their job.
  18. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

The thing that blows me away about old Simpsons episodes is the sheer density of jokes. They didn't care at all if you got all of them, they just threw in tons of background gags and random innuendo in. Now, whenever they make a joke, they pause to MAKE SURE YOU NOTICED A JOKE HAPPENED. It's pretty terrible. That same kind of confidence, incidentally, is what I also think is amazing about Arrested Development.
  19. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Except that's not at all what she said? She said they never uncovered any corruption because they never actually tried to uncover any, not because there was never any there.
  20. What is the Nadir of the Simpsons?

I dunno about the nadir, but I knew for sure the show had lost it with the season premiere of season 12, when they got the tennis court. Something just wasn't there any more. I've had this impression independently confirmed with another random Simpsons fan, so I know it's true.
  21. Feminism

There's an article I read a while back about how no one is a 'perfect' victim, and how that's often used to justify whatever horrible thing happens to them. It's something I've thought about a lot in the last few weeks, particularly seeing the attempted character assassinations of Michael Brown and Zoe Quinn.

  23. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

So it turns out that for the last two weeks Zoe Quinn has been logging all activity in the IRC channel 4chan has been using to orchestrate Gamergate, and is turning it all over to the police. https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508174331243810817 https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508175131017871361 https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508176313564160000 https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508176985932046336 https://twitter.com/MsMinotaur/status/508177920687210496 https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508180612348256256 https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508181098145136640 https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508181338264842240 https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508182027980390400 https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508182566327709697 https://twitter.com/TheQuinnspiracy/status/508184768815448064 Zoe just Poirot'd the SHIT out of #GamerGate.
