  1. Idle Thumbs 238: From Earth to Pluto

There were big decisions but they tended to be pretty obvious when they came up. Mass Effect was also very clever in how they set up the dialogue wheel in that the right side always moves the plot forward, the left side always adds exposition, the top is always paragon and the bottom is always renegade. This set up a lot of context that knowing the full dialogue lines removed, but it was still easy to get caught flat-footed by either the vehemence or subject of a particular response. Still clever, though.

Um, naw, not with the kinds of messages going up on the twitter feed. This is definitely someone who knows what GG is, though whether their supervisors do is questionable.
  3. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Someone was hypothesizing on twitter that this might be a lone gator taking over the twitter account while the higher ups are off on Thanksgiving vacation. Hilarious if that ends up being the case.

Re: GoG, I certainly don't want storefronts refusing to sell games on the basis of their association with GG, no matter how much of a shitweasel Brad Wardell seems to be -- nor even avoiding promoting them, if that's what they deem to be in their best interests. I don't think the decision of whether or not to support a company with questionable views should be made at the level of distribution, but at the level of the individual consumer.

Hey Deadpan have you heard of this Idle Thumbs podcast it's pretty rad you should give it a listen
  7. This forum is weird (Look a new topic!)

Hm, I thought of Bjorn as old and jenn as new: I can't tell whether that's because of the specifics of when they joined, some detail in how they presented themselves, or just good ol fashioned sexism. Anyway we have to get this topic up to 100 pages now. chop chop.
  8. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Either that or use the media ignoring their bullshit itself as evidence of a media conspiracy, as they did when gaming sites refused to disseminate the Zoe post.
  9. "Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Oh man this comment made my day: "That’s like making a movie about Stalin and portraying him as the good guy."
  10. Downwell! Gun Boots! Treasure Collecting! Falling!

I think apple is the quiet superhero of powerups. If you're hurt it can save your run, and if you're not it's a max hp up.
  11. Downwell! Gun Boots! Treasure Collecting! Falling!

Ahh I didn't realize it also gave guaranteed shops. That's pretty handy then. Still not top tier, but with a definite strategic application.
  12. Suggestions for a Game course

It's probably more expensive and hardware intensive than you want, but The Stanley Parable would be great if you could make it happen. Frog Fractions might also be good.

What's the consensus on the membership card? It seems kind of useful, but a 10% discount isn't really that much, especially compared to something like the apple which just straight up gives you something worth 900 gems at the start. So far my top 3 are probably gem powered, knife and fork, and the one that goes boom when you bounce on something.
  14. I don't see what everyone sees in that movie ...

been a long time since i seen it but wasn't the idea that aliens were attracted to the smell of blood or something and she was old enough to be having periods?
  15. I don't see what everyone sees in that movie ...

Super Mario Bros was the first platformer to really have good feeling momentum I think, but i don't think is really remarkable by modern standards beyond that. SMB3 and Super Mario World are the ones that still hold up. Though I contend that SMB2/Doki Doki Panic is still a good fucking game even if it's not a 'real' Super Mario game.
  16. I don't see what everyone sees in that movie ...

that the exact opposite of explains it
  17. I don't see what everyone sees in that movie ...

No one actually thinks Scooby Doo is good though, nor ever did. Scooby Doo is the animated equivalent of those awful chalky heart candies at valentines: Universally disliked, inexplicably ubiquitous.

Is shooting forever actually that useful, though? Usually if I'm that careless with my shooting I end up doing something I don't want to, like knocking away or destroying something I wanted to bounce on, aggroing an angry skull, or bursting a bubble container too early so the bubbles scatter. Health is guaranteed to be useful, even if the marginal benefit starts to fall away.
  19. Downwell! Gun Boots! Treasure Collecting! Falling!

It seems like just by surviving long enough you get all the charge you need (depending on playstyle I suppose) -- with that in mind, do you think it's worth buying charge at shops, or do you think just always getting hp would be better? I've been just buying whatever I have money for but I dunno if I'm getting enough benefit to justify the gems
  20. Black Lives Matter

I don't have any inherent objection to having a cop in a school provided that they behave in a manner closer to that described by gormongous and jennegatron, but that again gets to the difference between peace keeping vs enforcement of authority.

  22. Black Lives Matter

It wasn't common until recently, but seems to be becoming so.
