Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)
Professor Video Games replied to Irishjohn's topic in Multiplayer Networking
Garbage from start to finish. At least the suffering didn't last too long. -

Have you thought about doing objective console reviews? -
Idle Thumbs 140: The Customer's Always An Asshole
Professor Video Games replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Well, while reading that something in my head decided I'm going to hear it as "daisy" now, so you can try and go for that instead. On that note, someone should make a DayZ daisy mod. Give the zombies some nice garlands or something. -

Elmuerte I can't believe you passed up that jetpack. Anyway I successfully robbed the black market for the first time. I probably used too many bombs in the process since I already had a shotgun, but I was paranoid about it. I made it to the temple before dying and learning a valuable lesson about altars... -

I feel like this run was just ineptitude from start to finish. -
Boozing should open up new dialogue options in RPGs. And what your character says should be less intelligent than the option the player was presented with.

Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Ok I gave recording this a shot. I disregarded the advice given here and didn't rob the black market because I'm a big baby, but whatever because I made it to the temple which I've done maybe once before. Edit: apparently this is the one for the 7th, not the 6th. Didn't realize when it changed over... -

When I threw a bomb at that big spider in 1-2 it bounced off that bat (I think...or I just missed) and blew up the alter. What a disaster. I should try figuring out how to record these things. My ineptitude would probably be at least a little entertaining. Actually speaking of ineptitude, I've been wondering...do you guys normally rob the black market if you get there? Every time I've tried has ended...poorly. -

Hard to say right? These things can be so subjective... -

Why even bother though right? Metacritic attempts to create objective review scores by averaging across many subjective reviews. This site's reviews are already by definition subjective, making metacritic obsolete. This is the wave of the future right here. -

Oh look TychoCelchuuu, they made a video about you: http://www.hulu.com/watch/19280 My prediction is that tensions rise on Idle Thumbs and a Spelunky themed podcast emerges as a result. It lasts 4 episodes.

I have an uncle that works at Valve and he told me HL3 will have a special code you can enter to play as Luigi (this is why they extended the Year of Luigi btw).

Yeah I'm with you. The benefit of collecting cards is crafting for things I have no desire for like backgrounds and emoticons or you can sell them and get actual money to buy future games with. Seems like an easy choice.

Looks like the US PS+ additions for January have been announced. I don't know anything about the Vita titles but the rest seem like a really good set of games. Don't Starve (PS4) Bioshock Infinite (PS3) Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (PS3) DmC: Devil May Cry (PS3) Smart As (Vita) Worms Battle Islands (Vita)

Looks like Santa deemed them extra naughty. Seriously though that sucks and I hope they had some sort of off site backup going. Equipment can be replaced but if I worked there and my code got washed away in a flood, I'd probably have a mental breakdown.

Two main podcast times. Driving to/from work (30-45minutes each way) and while at the gym. Best to stay away from any sort of humorous podcast on lifting days though. That can end...badly.

Idle Thumbs 137: Data Complete
Professor Video Games replied to Jake's topic in Idle Thumbs Episodes & Streams
Does the Minecraft inspired genre have a name yet? "Minecraft-like" seems too unwieldy. How long did it take to go from "Doom clone" to "FPS"? -
I also just finished The Swapper and pretty much agree with what Tycho said above. The audio/visual design in that game is soooo good. I guess everything was made from actual clay models. It works really well. I did have the same issue with the sound mixing and actually ended up turning on subtitles so I could be sure to make out all the dialogue. My only real complaint is that there were these hidden terminals that add some additional backstory, but they were so outrageously hidden that I can't imagine anyone would find more than one or two in a normal playthrough, and when you finish the game it saves at the credits sequence so to explore the station again to try and find them you'd have to re-solve all the puzzles. But like I said it's just some optional backstory and that's what youtube's for, so it's a very minor complaint.

Damn it, but computers have become really complicated
Professor Video Games replied to Erkki's topic in Idle Banter
Random BSODs are often a symptom of something going bad. Usually RAM or the HDD. There are utilities built into Windows to check those that it may be worth running for some peace of mind.
