  1. The threat of Big Dog

They're gonna put this in a Big Dog aren't they... http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/26/5348640/google-deepmind-acquisition-robotics-ai
  2. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

The purity of my daily challenge runs must be absolute. Luckily that's not very hard. In other news I'm traveling for work and can't do the dailies all week. Maybe I should just quit my job instead...
  3. Life

There's still time, Twig! I recommend watching The King of Comedy for inspiration.
  4. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Nice job 20ozMonkey. I was doing alright until I got to the temple, then lasted about 20 seconds. I had so many bombs, I'm not sure why I got as close to the enemies as I did...
  5. Spelunky!

Totally agree about the timer. A lot of the tension comes from not being completely sure when the ghost will show up on you. Otherwise it looks great. I'll certainly use it despite my complete lack of pro-ness.
  6. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Spoilers in response to Bjorn's spoilers
  7. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Maybe I'll start keeping a tally of how many of these end with me screaming "WHAT?!"
  8. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I feel like these things have been the same in runs I've watched in the past. I'll have to keep a closer eye on it next time. Anyway it's not like finding items in the ground is that common. But god help you the day one of you finds a jetpack in the ground and I don't...
  9. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Behold an unremarkable run. I'm going to request that someone who's also a mediorce spelunker post in this thread. I enjoy hammerpants' pro ghosting skills, but I want someone to commiserate with. On a side note, is the stuff that's in rocks not consistent for everyone in a daily? In mine at 6:57 there's paste in the ground, but in hammerpants's video it's not there (6:42). My daily challenge worldview is being turned upside down here...
  10. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Piranhas that are at the very top of pools are practically invisible
  11. The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

I am prepared to donate money to the Candybox legal defense fund if necessary.
  12. The Business Side of Video (Space) Games EXCLUSIVELY ON IDLE THUMBS

I feel like the aggressive sales that are common now are a pretty tricky situation for devs. Why buy a game for $60 when it's going to be $40 in just a month? Or $20 a little after that? At the same time, if sales are flagging or even worse, were never good in the first place, what is there to gain by keeping the game at full price? The time between release and these discounts is definitely something that could be looked at a little more closely. I think his plan of having early adopter discounts is fine, but he's ignoring the fact that there are people that either can't afford to buy games at full price or have no interest in certain games/genres at their full price. He's going to miss out on these sales entirely. I think a more rational approach, if he hates the whole flash sale/deep discount structure, is a more gradual and permanent price drop over time. After a year or whatever is appropriate, drop the price by half, then half again a year later, etc.

  14. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Dunno if you've played it, but Gemini Rue does this as well and is really good. If you've got adventure games on the brain after finishing Broken Age I'd recommend checking it out. As far as the weird space bar to skip thing, I just remapped it to right mouse click which eliminated any need to use the keyboard.
  15. Recently completed video games

I beat ICO HD recently. The main character, who I don't think ever gets named, is like a little Nathan Drake except he kills spooky shadow creatures instead of dudes. The game shows its age mainly in the combat and camera control, but the visuals and environmental puzzle part of the gameplay hold up well. And for a game that is essentially a giant escort mission I was rarely frustrated while leading Yorda around, which I think says something. Mainly I wanted to mention this small touch that's there towards the end of the game that I really loved...
  16. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

It appears that scepter you can get in the temple is a little too powerful for its own good. Live and learn I guess. Also I had an insanely close call in the black market. This game has its hooks so deep in me...
  17. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Congrats Bjorn. I on the other hand, met a very careless end in the jungle.
  18. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

I was wondering how the randomization works on that. It definitely depends on what altars you use. Not sure if the sacrifice itself matters.
  19. Idle Explorers (Spelunky, um, thumbs)

Beat the game for the first time! Hurray for me!
  20. Idle Bibles - An Idle Thumbs Bible Game

And God said to Abraham, "Sacrifice Isaac, your firstborn son, and I will bestow upon thou a sweet jetpack"
  21. Idle Bibles - An Idle Thumbs Bible Game

    "Isaac will remember that"
  22. Movie/TV recommendations

The little foulmouthed dude in that game is the stuff of Peter Molyneux's wet dreams.
  23. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

The game is only released to backers and press right now. I think the public release is in two weeks.
  24. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

They're generally being very trusting of their backers. Just asking nicely for people not to post Let's Plays of the whole thing or sharing trailer videos. Don't they realize this is the Internet? Anyway, I've been watching the documentary videos and they do a good job keeping most story points out of it and focusing on the production itself, so that new trailer just got me even more excited for this. Also the artwork continues to look amazing.
