  1. Titanfall

I feel you on that man. Sometimes it can be pretty incomprehensible, one "tip" don't play Attrition. I found that I was feeling that way and losing interest fast, then started playing only hardpoint for a bit, and started enjoying the game a lot more. Just having the simple capture the point objective makes it easier to focus, the other stuff will start coming as you play more. Also not loving Last titan standing, it's better than attrition but it can get boring. Matches seem to get pretty one sided fairly quickly. One fun tactic on the "outdoor" map is to hide your titan at the beginning of the match (find some trees or a ditch, especially on the cliff side of the map, and put it in guard mode) and just go out and support your team with your anti-titan weapon. On that map I find that the titans tend to stay on their spawn side of the map for a good long while and as such your titan will often last long into the round without taking much if any damage. I actually won a round on time out when the rest of my team got wiped because by the time he killed the last active titan on my team there were only like 20 sec. left. I spent that time distracting him from the rooftops and my titan never took any damage. My team won because my titan had taken the least damage of the two remaining. I don't think I will ever love death match modes again, I just don't have the micro for it anymore. Edit: playing on PC here BTW
  2. General Video Game Deals Thread

Thanks for the heads up, I've been wanting to pick up Damrey, and Crimson Shroud for ages, I grabbed Friday monsters as well on your recommendation. Since I still have 10 in my wallet, I'm thinking I'll grab weapon shop when it drops. Unless maybe Maiden and bugs vs tanks are really worth it.
  3. Nintendo 3DS

I totally get the appeal of the gamepad, I do. As for the NeoGeo X that thing was not very good for a number of reasons, and NeoGeo titles are WAY more niche than Nintendo. How many people have fond memories of sitting on the floor Saturday morning playing their NeoGeo? (Answer: Rich people, the NeoGeo cost $650 when it launched. That's over $1100 in today's money.) Also I wasn't suggesting it only play VC games, just that the subscription based VC I pitched would be a big selling point. I still want my SM3DW, and WiiU zelda. It's all a pipe dream anyway, N doubled down on the Gamepad at that investor thing a few weeks back, and basically said that they will have a better account system someday and all their future systems will support it. Which seemed like a PR speak way of saying it wont happen on current hardware.
  4. Nintendo 3DS

I certainly recognize that the "piracy" issue is there, but at some point you just have to accept a few losses. maybe you would only be eligible if you registered the unique Club Nintendo code from a game or something. In a perfect world the 3DS would have been designed from the start with the ability to install retail purchased games and "disable" the cart or the ability to get more installs out of it somehow. Also considering the downsides of Ns digital services I do think it's a bit presumptuous to ask full retail price for the digital version, they are asking the same price for something that holds demonstrably less value. On something like steam or PSN this is mitigated by having access to my software on any device quickly and easily etc. the value lost from not being able to share or resell your game is returned in another way. At least for me. I'm certainly day dreaming a bit there That being said nostalgia is, it seems, good business in the games industry. I didn't include it in that last post but in my fantasy they also drop the gamepad and lower the price significantly, but dropping the gamepad is fairly controversial so I deiced to leave it be. I think a lot of people that don't see the value in last gen hardware and the gamepad, would see value in an all-in-one retro game machine with Nintendo first party games. I'm not trying to imply it would "win the fight" for Nintendo or anything. Just that it would represent a much better value to (many, I think) more consumers.
  5. Nintendo 3DS

They need a proper, modern, platform agnostic account system big time. That being said even with their current system I would love to be able to pay a small fee to get digital copies of the physical 3DS games I already own. I have come to realize that I would really like to just have everything installed on my SD card for instant access, but I'm certainly not gonna pay full retail price again for that privilege (also why are the digital versions full price! Yuck!). Regarding the VC stuff, it is my understanding that there is no generalized "emulation package" for each platform. Each game is done individually to ensure accurate emulation, I'm sure there is some shared stuff (though I think they contract a lot of VC programming work to third parties who probably don't share) but it's not just a wrapper they throw a ROM in. That being said I think part of the solution to fixing the reputation of their digital service, and maybe boosting Wii U sales, should be a generalized emulation solution on current platforms (within processing power reason) tied with a monthly fee PS+ style service that gets you access to the entire VC library on every device tied to your Club Nintendo (keep the good branding NNID is clumsy) account. Games using the general emu. would be labeled somehow to differentiate them from the titles that have been "tuned". Maybe gold and silver or something. The big problem then comes from licensing, but considering the low cost of entry it doesn't seem like many publishers wouldn't get on board. Turn the 3DS and especially the Wii U into your one stop shop for Nintendo related nostalgia. Can you imagine a world where the Wii U got re-launched and re-branded (or launched) as the NEW Nintendo Entertainment System alongside that Club Nintendo online service!
  6. While there is something interesting about that episode in how "weird" it is, that shit was a really unnecessary kick to the fans faces. That final moment was really good. Also love that they threw a bone (pun!) to enterprise fans in the first Abrams trek movie.
  7. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

A clip of Nick saying "fuck me!" has to be out there somewhere right? Because i think that would be hilarious to hear. I guess "Congrats Nick" could work to.
  8. You know what? I think this is why Janeway never worked for me, I just didn't grok it back in the day because I wasn't really thinking all that critically about stuff yet. Kinda funny then that I kinda stumbled on a solution for it, if Janeway had died they would have been able to use Tuvok and Chakotay to fulfill that struggle without having to make one character flip flop. Also i think part of it was disappointment, the concept for voyager is really great! A Starfleet vessel lost far from any assistance, forced to merge crews with an "enemy" trying to find their way home. Could have been a really good, kinda dark trek series. Think Stargate Universe meets BSG or something. Instead we got one of the cheesier treks... I'll give it another shot. If some of you haven't you should really give Enterprise a chance too, it's much better than the internet would lead you to believe.
  9. I'ts hard to remember specifics, but at the time I remember thinking it was really cheesy. One of the only specific things i remember is thinking Janeway should have died on that station thing in the first episode trying to send voyager home, and then Tuvok and Chipotle ;P should have like co-captained voyager or something. I'll probably give it another try. I do like some of the characters on voyager, always liked the doctor in particular. Actually I kinda always like the doctors in trek shows. hmm.
  10. This thread is really weird for me, I have harbored a deep dislike of voyager since I first saw some of it back in high school when I tried to watch all of trek. I couldn't even make it through the first season, you people are making me second guess myself. Then again I really enjoyed Enterprise and think it's highly underrated (it has bad episodes/arcs as all treks do) so maybe I'm just insane.
  11. Yeah there are a few out there, I use one called "Air" you can get it here : http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2989566 Preview: I briefly tried this metro (as in win8) style one as well but I didn't care for the overlay: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2618944
  12. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

I think a Sean skin for the damsel would be pretty funny, then Chris can incessantly talk at Sean about how he has carry him constantly.
  13. Double Fine's Amnesia Fortnight 2014

for the pen ward thing I chose: Cupid For DF stuff I checked: Buried Metropolis Parabolic And for my third I can't decide between Gnome War, Mnemonic, and Steed! They should add micro-transactions for more votes! EDIT: Voted for, the Gnome wars have been.
  14. Show me your desk/gaming space

They came with the first computer I ever owned (that wasn't a family box). Athlon XP 1600+ 1gb DDR geforce 2 MX400 ahh, I played a lot of UT99 on that thing.
  15. Show me your desk/gaming space

    Mines in the closet.
  16. Nintendo 3DS

Minster Hunter, the game in which you fight churches with a sword the size of a fridge. Also I'm fairly certain that sale is happening in th US as well MH3U is $20 on the eShop right now. I was not a fan of the OG MegaMan games for a long time, but just recently I went an played a few hours of MM2 (I've heard its the best from a lot of fans) and I think I just didn't have the patience for them when I was younger but I really enjoyed what I played the other day. So I guess I would recommend MM2?
  17. Recently completed video games

We feel very similarly about Evoland. Although I will say that I really don't think it was meant as satire/parody but as homage, which i think is why: this is exactly right, it seemed to me like a game with a ton of love and ambition that ended up going nowhere in terms of gameplay. Like they had this idea of the shifting nature of RPGs over the years and made all this art to prove the concept but then either ran out of money, ability, or enthusiasm to make the gameplay systems to match it. It's really a shame because i was picking up what that game was putting down for the first hour or so, and not many games have gone back to that PlayStation era low poly characters with pre-rendered backgrounds style yet. Also I hear you about the commitment avoidance thing man, let me tell you about my like 200+ game steam library of which I have really played maybe 50, and my console games, and all the movies I haven't watched, and the books I hav... I think I'm just gonna go take a nap.
  18. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

My God. This is possibly the greatest thing i have ever seen, it's just the right mixture of heartfelt and dumb. There were tears of laughter. I wish i could have been a part of this, I need to frequent the forums more. Seriously amazing work by everyone involved.
  19. Borderlands 2

It's Burch, With a "u", and yeah his voice is really strong in what I've seen of the dialogue. He and the greater HAWP crew have been streaming a bunch of BL2 over on the HAWP twitch.tv along with a lot of other good stuff. Edit: Forgot to mention when I said "seen" I meant in video and such, stupid money.
  20. OH MY GOD HOW IS IT MONDAY... It's a good thing im not working right now, i really honestly thought it was Saturday yesterday. I was looking forward to arma today. I really need to set an alarm on my phone or something..
  21. WOW THAT HEADLINE IS WRONG. The writer on armaholic really dug for that, no where in that interview do they even approach saying DayZ will be incorporated into the next arma2 patch. At best it sounds like they are gonna fix some engine bugs that relate directly to DayZ or maybe tailor some of the mod support. I can understand seeing what you want to see but that is a huge stretch, borderline dishonest. EDIT: apparently the article writer is not a native English speaker so it may be an honest mistake. EDIT2: The Editing: So this is one of the most recent comments on that post, by the author of the post: Even after asking about it I could leave my newspost about this as it is. So, spreading rumors is good for business I assume And guess what, its working. Why let all other non-related Arma sites run away with the DayZ news and leave us at the bottom? The entire Arma community deserves the attention it is getting" I understand it's not a news site and thus there isn't even a whiff of the expectation of standards, but he could at least append an update to the post or something.
  22. So my mother just called to let me know she volunteered me to drive my aunt somewhere, I have to leave in 10 mins and I have no idea how long this will take. Can't very well say no today though can I... Hopefully i'll just be a little late.
  23. My thoughts as someone who played this game before the introduction of humanity, or bandits: The humanity meter in the UI is awful, it works fine once you know what it is but from a design perspective it is meaningless. its a face, is it a head wound indicator? a sanity meter? maybe you can get infected now? no it's a morality meter, how does that icon make sense, hopefully they can find a better way to convey that info. The new starting pistol is great. The old revolver was overpowered, less ammo but it one shot most zeds. The makarov creates a nice sense of panic when your trying to take down a charging zombie. If there is a way, they should disable the global chat in game, direct (distance based) chat only. Isolation is part of the experience. Also it sure seems like there are way less zombies than there used to be, but maybe that just cause there are more players killing them. The humanity system and becoming a bandit: The humanity metric is interesting as a kind of reputation representation, but the way it's currently implemented I really don't like. Turning into a bandit (which actually changes your appearance in game) forces a red vs blue, survivors vs bandits mindset, and that is not what made/makes this game interesting. Before you couldn't tell who you could trust, and inversely you could betray someone at anytime if you had to for survival (or just wanted his gear). The bandit shift, has caused factions to coalesce mostly in the form of groups of bandits just holding towns (and thus supply respawn points) killing any survivors that get near. The survivors still can't really trust anyone because all bandits start as survivors and change after killing a bunch of people, so the odds have completely slid in favor of just being a bandit if you want to survive, so most people just seems to be murderers now. Before the alliances were fluid everyone was just wandering, trying to survive, every encounter with another survivor was tense and slow until you decided whether you were going to fight or work together, at least for the time being. now it just feels like mayhem, skewed towards murdering everyone you see. A thought on the humanity/reputation system: What if instead of the bandit skin there were like community message board things in each town that displayed the name of currently logged in players and their reputation, that way there was still a way to keep track of good vs bad players but in the moment you still don't know who to trust. TL;DR: the UI needs work, black and white morality systems are bad.
  24. oh wow, I totally lost track of what day it was i just woke up to the steam event reminder sitting on my desktop! A marathon session of FEZ lasted from Saturday night into Sunday evening kept me in the living room until I finally started passing out and crawled into bed for eight hours. I actually went out and bought a spiral notebook because the pile of paper next to me was getting unruly... I feel bad about missing 2 weeks in a row. Wont happen again, unless I descend into madness deciphering FEZ.
