  1. I guess M&M Australia decided to have some kind of M&M election, and decided that "Miss Green" was both a stripper and some sort of anti-deforestation eco-activist. Thus was born this travesty:
  2. Your whole discussion of David Cronenberg's Dr. Mario just had me thinking about the movie Cronenberg released right after The Fly: Dead Ringers. This movie is about a pair of co-dependant brothers who are both also doctors. They assume each others' roles and pose as each other (Player 1 and Player 2, perhaps?) and descend into madness, mutilation and a disturbing collection of painful-looking gynecological instruments. Basically what I'm saying is that David Cronenberg almost definitely had predicted the game Dr. Mario and the future direction of the Mario franchise in 1988.
  3. For me, at least, it's not so much about the experience of the art being "ruined" as it is just about it being different. When you haven't been spoiled, I at least am spending a good portion of the time reading/watching/playing something speculating as to where it's going and trying to connect various elements of the work into those theories, whereas if I'm spoiled on how something ends, it's more about appreciating how the various pieces fit together. They're both very valid ways to appreciate something, but they are markedly different. On a different topic, I was taken a bit aback by the "ironic" email. Sean in particular always comes across to me as extremely earnest.
  4. I couldn't help but picture the theoretical airport frustration sim as looking just like Rollercoaster Tycoon. Also, it sounds just like a game that Introversion would make. When everyone was saying how they can't just come on the cast and say "It was good, I liked it" about a game, I was like "Why not? That's what Nick Breckon does".
  5. For people burping, my uncle always said "Bring it up and we'll vote on it".
  6. Terminal7 12: Seventeen Random Accesses

Another great cast, guys. Incidentally, I just got OCTGN working and I'd love to play against someone who can show me what the hell to do with it.
  7. Given Jake's professed love of historically-set genre works, I sure hope he's watching The Americans on FX.
  8. Magical Realism & Weird Fiction thread

My favourite piece of weird fiction is easily H.F. Arnold's The Night Wire: http://www.sff.net/people/doylemacdonald/l_nightw.htm. It's a really clear influence on Stephen King's The Mist and the entire Silent Hill series.
  9. Terminal7 5: The Actual Best Thing

Hey guys, just wanted to chime in to say that Nels talking about Netrunner on Idle Thumbs was enough to get me to pick up the core set, and listening to this cast has me up to three data packs so far. I've downloaded OCTGN, but I can't seem to get it to connect. Once I've figured that out, though, I'd love to have someone walk me through the interface.
  10. Given how often Chris uses "goofy, stupid video game bullshit" as shorthand for everything he dislikes in games, it's hilarious to listen to people trying to sell him on Saints Row based on how hilariously goofy, stupid and video gamey it is. Also, Jake should totally get a 3DS. Mario 3D Land is an amazing game. It's 3D, but unlike Mario Galaxy, it's focused on short obstacle course-style levels in the style of Mario 3. It's my favourite Mario game since the NES.
  11. Thought this might be of some interest to people here:http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gabedurham/boss-fight-books It's a planned project of short books about various classic games, very similar to the 33 1/3 series of books about classic albums. I love that format for albums, and this seems ideal for covering games in depth and getting exposed to games writers I haven't read before. Also, I'm new to this software and am not sure how to create a link that is actually a piece of text rather than the URL itself, since it doesn't seem to work the same way as vBulletin.
  12. I still haven't received anything, no postcard or shirt. Should I be getting in touch at this point, and if so, through email or the KS page?
  13. Given the short discussion of Le Carre in Episode 0, I'd love to see one of his books on here. I'd suggest A Perfect Spy, it's probably his most acclaimed pure stand-alone novel.
  14. Books on Sport

Ken Dryden's The Game, about his time with the Montreal Canadiens, is probably the best book written by an athlete.
