  1. Microsoft Surface

I have owned a couple iPods and a couple Zunes and I prefer the Zune interface much more. The Zune interface is basically the same as the iPod's, except I don't have to back out of everything to switch from category to category. Also the squircle on the Zune is velocity sensitive. Either way, these days I use my phone for 90% of music, the other 10% is my Zune 80 in my car. I had a 40gig iPod something like 8 years ago, whatever gen that was and it broke, they replaced it was a 20 gig one after charging me for repairs which was lame, and which broke. I got the 30gig video iPod and it broke, at which point I got a Zune 30. It was nice, but when the second gen Zunes came out I got an 80 and gave the 30 to my friend. It's also worth noting that my neither of my Zunes has had any problems except I messed up the screen on my 80, I forget how but it was 100% my fault, and I got it replaced in 3 days no charges no questions asked, and it was one of the customized laser etched Originals that came in a big box with some extra stuff and they just sent me a whole new box. I also have an iPod nano from a billion years ago that is a champ and still going strong, but I never use it. If I started running outside more I'd use it, but I haven't done much running in a while.
  2. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

There are very few 8 string guitarists that I like since most of them just play 6 string guitar with a bunch of heavy open chugging. One of the ones I do like is Tosin Abasi (from Animals As Leaders)
  3. Lego

    Yes.
  4. Movie/TV recommendations

I still only think of him as the black guy from Derrick Comedy. But then, I don't like Community and I don't listen to hip-hop.
  5. Lego

I was all about Legos growing up. I have a GIGANTIC tub somewhere in my attic that's completely filled with Legos. If I ever find it, dear lord I don't even want to think about it.
  6. SMITE

Last night I was looking at Smite streams on Twitch and it seems like a fair amount of high elo (2400+) LoL players were playing it and a couple pros and they all really liked it. I'm interested to see what will happen if this game starts getting some buzz.
  7. This. Except I would say even if all your towers are gone you should still have one. When all your towers are gone and your team is pushing if the other team sends someone to split while they defend their base and all your towers are gone and none of you have TPs there's a good chance you could lose the game. Also late in the game getting caught can throw the game, so having a TP to get back to base can save your team the 70+ seconds of being a man down. Oh and for those that didn't know if you double tap the key that you have your TPs on it automatically sends you to your base which when you're trying to get out of a gank saves a lot of time. The same goes for things like a blink dagger which is helpful if your team was pushing the other teams base while they were down and now they're up and chasing you and you need to b, and it's also nice if your team is defending a rax or something and a Pudge hooks you. It probably means no one was in it, a lot of the times when I'm on there's only 1-2 other people and there's also time when I'm the only person in it.
  8. Microsoft Surface

I see a fair amount of people in my classes using iPads for taking notes and a lot of them have the stands that have keyboards like Or similar such things Edit: just saw that Remo already addressed these.
  9. Well when you get reported you go into the low priority queue for matchmaking, and the opposite is also true, only with high prioirty match making. Last time I logged it I got a message saying that action had been taken against one or more of the people I had reported so I guess they're taking effort to make it more apparent. I agree with the videos thing for learning the game as a new player, but I actually like Purge unlike everyone else. In some of his videos he comes off as a huge dick and at first it was off putting to me, btu the thing to keep in mind is that in a lot of his videos (and every single one when he's been a douche that I've seen) he is playing with real life friends, like ones he's known since he was a kid, so he's pretty hard on them. He's addressed it and acknowledged that he's mean to them, but that he knows they don't take it personally and if you watch any of the games he plays with fans or his stream he's completely different. He's actually a really nice guy. Even if you don't watch his hero games, his gameplay guides on things like how to spend starting gold, how to outlane your opponents, how to solo the hardlane, ect. are incredibly helpful especially if you are just starting out.
  10. You don't have to pass an IQ test to be a senator

This made me laugh out loud. As for this discussion, I literally have 0 opinions on religion, it is something that I spend no time thinking about outside of when it gets brought up when talking to my friends which is usually in a similar context to this thread. One of my friends is super anti-religion, to the point that he's doing a dual major in college so he can major in theology and is constantly reading books on religion and watching religious debates. He actually talks to religious people though, as in he doesn't think less of them as far as I can tell and he isn't a condescending cunt when he tries to explain to them why he feels that what they believe is wrong. I still find it pretty annoying how he spends a gigantic amount of effort pursuing something that is pointless, but at least he is reasonable about it and cares to actually know what he is talking about. I have basically no tolerance towards the random people on the internet though who berate religion but don't actually know anything about it and have never even read the bible, it's one of the most annoying things in the world to me. My sister is like that. She hates all religious people and is always talking shit about how stupid they are (she doesn't talk about them like they're real people at all), but she refuses to read the bible to even know what it is they believe, and on top of that she majored in public health and goes to lots of third world places like Africa and Thailand and South America and such to help people and every time every single other person there is religious, usually Mormon, and she ends up being friends with hem, but then comes back and then still blindly hates every single person who has any sort of religious beliefs.
  11. People can do that, I've also seen people who place special characters in their Steam names that changes in Dota so that their name shows up as multiple colors instead of what color they are. You could go to you match history and look at his Steam profile though.
  12. Just Cause 2

    I have it
  13. Yep, every time you level up you have a 100% chance to get an item at the end of that game.
  14. I just played a game where our Blood Seeker disconnected maybe 10 minutes in and someone on our team just took over and played for him. I couldn't tell who it was though because they micro'd him and whoever they were already playing perfectly. I also got my second Tidehunter weapon but I feel weird not having an Anchor on him so I don't think I'll equip it ( I have the pirate cutlass and the bone sword thing)
  15. Xbox 720

My point was that if 512 MB has last the 360 until now why would 4GB be a big issue for a next gen console? If 4GB of RAM last the next xbox as long as 512 megabytes has lasted the 360 I don't see an issue.
  16. Xbox 720

Well keep in mind the 360 has 512 MB of RAM so this is still 8x more.
  17. Goodreads

I made an account a while ago and went through and added all the books that were on my shelf to the books I've read. The problem is they were all ones I read when I was younger so I didn't know how to review them, so I reviewd them with the scored of how I remembered liking them. This involved a lot of R.A. Salvatore books getting higher scores that they probably deserve (~3stars is what I gave most of them) and Harry Potter books. There's also a lot of Neil Gaiman books (I was adding the Sandman comics and ended up just doing all of his books that I've read) so I don't know what it would recommend to me if I tried, but it's probably not something I'd read. Well, maybe.
  18. Xbox 720

On the page for the competition it lists "Wii2: rumored". I wonder how old this is Edit: nvm the agenda page says "The road ahead: 2011-2015"
  19. dear lord, I just won a 3v5 game, as in our ES never connected and as soon as his 5 minutes were up our Slardar left, but I as a Spectre with a Lesh and PA managed to win after 71 minutes. http://imgur.com/Rdht1.jpg The ES and Slar got those levels from us using them to defend the base as we were going for a push to finish it at around the 60 minute mark. We were attacking their ancient while they were all down and got cocky and tried to kill them all as they spawned and ended up dying when their ancent was literally a couple hits from dead and with our ancient getting pushed back, but we all had buybacks and managed to save the game.
  20. I didn't say that their servers were in mountain view, I said the carrier neutral data centers they use were. I was mistaken though, the main silicon valley data center is in Sunnyvale, not Mountain View. They use Equinix data centers to exchange traffic. My dad who works for Equinix went to a conference last week in Chicago where Riot games gave some sort of a presentation on how they handle their traffic for League of Legends and it involved passing it out to a carrier and then the carrier routed the traffic to Spain before routing it to Brazil. Sorry if I wasn't clear. EDIT: Alright I asked my dad to clarify and what it is is Riot uses Equinix's LA data center to exchange data with their two providers, some companies called Internap and NTT, who are the ones who route traffic from Brazil to Spain before sending it to LA. The carriers are the ones who are intentionally routing traffic in a retarded way to save money, though Riot uses them because it's cheaper. However he told me that Riot didn't even really know what the companies were doing, the same way that I don't really know how my internet provider is routing my traffic, just that it's getting from point A to point B. He said they have no clue what they were doing because they didn't pay any attention to what their carriers were doing and how it affected the performance of their game, which should be their main concern. I guess after this conference thing they now know so they could change carriers or something, though I'm not sure since he said the game was really optimized for North America so if that's working for them and that's where the majority of their non Europe/Asia customers are then it's probably better to not change even if it means Brazilians get 500-3000ms latency. ANYWAYS... I'm still not sure how much latency is the cause of the Brazilian stereotype, I've thought about whether it's from the language barrier, or if it's because most people there have worse computers than those in the United States, but the same stereotype exists for Europe for Russians so it's hard to tell. It certainly isn't just from any network setup that Riot has as the stereotype was around since DotA and still exists in HoN and DOTA2. I remember a thread a few years back on the HoN forums: http://forums.heroes...ad-at-this-game where someone asked the question in a genuine way (i.e. not being a racist but asking if it was a language barrier or latency or technology problem) but there wasn't a real answer, though the thread is a very funny read. The problem of language isn't an issue in Europe, though I guess since a larger amount of people are bilingual and know English could be why, but for some reason they hate the Russians just as much as people in NA hate Brazilians. Russia does however have competitive teams (Moscow 5 is a gaming group that has top teams in LoL and Dota2 as well as other games).
  21. I think a LTTP remake in 3d would be cool, though it depends on the art style. I would still much prefer MM over LTTP though because LTTP doesn't look any worse today then it did when it came out, but MM has certainly aged, at least visually. I also think that despite having the birds eye view that would make use of the 3D, MM would benefit more from it, though I guess I can't really say that without having seen a 3d LTTP.
  22. You Bloody Idiots OR A Tale of M$

I never had a problem with Vista. In fact, despite having a copy of W7 since launch I only got around to installing it this past January because I didn't care enough to go through the effort (I always reformat my PC and do clean installs when upgrading the OS).
  23. So my dad's company runs data-centers, like the biggest ones in the Us/world where all the big phone companies and other companies exchange data and their west coast data-center which is in like Mountain View is the biggest on the west coast. One of their direct customers is Riot Games, and my dad just went to a conference where they gave a presentation on how they manage their traffic for League of Legends. I asked him how it went and he said that for a company that basically revolves around internet traffic they have no clue what they're doing. He then said "For example, if you're in Brazil and you're trying to play this game..." and I started laughing. It turns out Riot routs all the traffic to Brazil through Spain, then they route it back to Brazil, so it crosses the Atlantic twice. It's over twice as bad as if you were trying to play on EU servers from California. They get 2-3 seconds of latency because it's cheaper for Riot. There is literally a reason why Brazilians are so bad at this game. BTW my dad had no idea about the Brazilian stereotype.

  25. Apple WWDC 2012 Keynote

I have such a burning neutrality for Apple. My dad hates Apple in a way that I can't creatively describe, but it's very much. He worked at Microsoft for a while as part of something having to do with MSN and/or Hotmail, but I think it goes a lot deeper than that, most likeley back to his childhood. He's a total douche about Apple, but I guess in a technologically informed way? meaning he was that guy complaining when Steve Jobs died that people were giving a shit about him and not Dennis Ritchie, and gets mad about how Apple never acknowledges that Microsoft saved them and other stuff like that, which is a fair point but gets obnoxious after a while. My uncle on the other had is a huge Apple tool. He's a very well paid doctor or surgeon or something, and always buys every Apple product the day it comes out and is always raving about how they are just so much farther ahead that anyone else in the tech world and stuff. But he's not just that guy, he's the guy that despite being on call all the time has never once missed going to Mac World each year. But he's not just that guy, he's the guy who for his 25th wedding anniversary allowed his wife to come with him to Mac World. I don't see how you can care so strongly about one company over the other (unless you have stock I guess). If you like Apple cool, I'm not a fan of their computers, but as a PC gamer I've basically been conditioned to be a nerd about performance/price when buying one. As a music technology major I've spent tons of time using Macs and they're good computers, I like Windows more, but I can't find fault with anyone for preferring them. For phones, the iPhone is basically as good as it gets. I don't think its better than any other phone there is, but I think that it's just as good as any other phone that there is and to deny that the app store is miles better than the android store or the WP7 marketplace is stupid. I have a high end android phone and I find it to be just as good as my sisters iPhone 4, but there are tons of apps on the app store that aren't on android and don't even have similar apps for android. As for tablets, I don't even like tablets as an idea, except I guess as color eReaders. I will probably get the Google Tablet whatever thing from ASUS when it comes out, but only because it's basically a Kindle Fire but better (if it ends up being a ~$200 price point). This is from someone who reads lots of comics though, I don't know what else I would use it for, so unless you're like me and have read every issue of Green Lantern and Batman from the 20's to present, I don't understand the draw, but whatever. Long story short I don't see why people would take their love for one product/company over the other to the point that they berate people for not agreeing with them. What's wrong with everyone just buying that they prefer and then accepting that there are people in the world who don't agree with them and also don't care. As I say every time I start a DOTA 2 game, "GLHF and as long as we all have fun EVERYBODY IS A WINNER!!!! " I almost always get called a fag btw.
