  1. Tone Control 7: Brendon Chung!

Brendon is my favorite gaming auteur. You get all these higher profile dudes, who's made some good games sure, Fez, Braid what have you, but the breadth in such a small window is just outrageous. Also, for my money 30 Flights is the best realization of game as film, by a mile. I wish there was a fuller length version in that style. The idea that he's just TINKERING without any formal training just blows my mind. Another great show!
  2. I Had A Random Thought...

swag as a term for loot or promotion junk is old! swag as a term for cool is a recent invention of Tyler the Creator's crew Oddfuture.
  3. I Had A Random Thought...

This constant ice blasting has made ME pretty testy.
  4. I Had A Random Thought...

Depends on where you get them! The Vegan Treats stuff is really nice, especially the cannolis, which are divine.
  5. Books, books, books...

Mine is the Richard Poe version, the one on HB. He's as dry and weathered as can be.
  6. The City and The City by China Mieville

I really enjoyed PSS, and my girlfriend knocked out the other 2 in that series in the same time frame (PHD candidates amirite). We both thought Embassytown was fantastic, and an order more sophisticated, which I don't mean in a condescending way. It really transcended genre fiction for me.
  7. Books, books, books...

I just finished Blood Meridian, via Audible. The narrator has a great voice and delivery. Brilliant novel with no likable characters and at times really shocking in it's violence. I love the way he manages both a biblical style of description but almost never providing any interior or emotional content for the characters.
  8. Movie/TV recommendations

I really enjoyed Her. In a way it reminded me of a bit easier Upstream Color, particularly in the color co-ordination of the cinematography, modern composition of the ambient music, as well as the emerging theme.
  9. Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary

Chris Avellone posted a link to an IT episode talking about Alpha Protocol, so I think the first episode I heard was either Rolling with the Pope or A Castro Situation. I was immediately taken, and then hugely bummed because RIGHT when I discovered it, it was ending, and those last few episodes, like Silken Goku, and Diplomatic Pouch are some of my favorites. The show just scratched every itch. I also really appreciate the forum communities intelligence, camaraderie, and progressive attitude, especially in light of the usual gamer dross. (My primary 10+ year forum is a bunch of ultra left diy punx.) Hooray for everyone.
  10. The Idle Thumbs 10th Anniversary Committee

Amazing. Also, wouldn't this be more of a 'shrink goal'?
  11. ObjectiveGameReviews.com - A Subtle Journey of Discovery

I want to start a spin off site that targets these people's actual needs: "doesitworkokay.com"
  12. Haha, both columns got my age wrong, but the range is on either side. It's impression of my interests is kind of funny too. I sound like a miserable weirdo: Banking, Biological Sciences, Books & Literature, Brazilian Music, Celebrities & Entertainment News, Computer & Video Games, East Asian Music, Fitness, Humor, Hygiene & Toiletries, Make-Up & Cosmetics, Mobile Apps & Add-Ons, Online Games, Pet Food & Supplies, Record Labels, Recording Industry, Reggaeton, Shopping, Smart Phones, Superhero Films, TV Dramas, TV Shows & Programs
  13. Idle Bibles - An Idle Thumbs Bible Game

like an old testament skin for Dungeon Keeper?
  14. Idle Bibles - An Idle Thumbs Bible Game

Dammit! I'm totally stuck on the Moses/desert escort quest. I can't get the lamp management mechanics right.
  15. Broken Age - Double Fine Adventure!

Yeah, I'm a bit curious about this as beta vs final release. Is it just bug squashing and localization? Or are their polish/graphic effects still to be added. I don't mind dealing with bugs, but I'd like the full AV package.
  16. DayZ sounds pretty fascinating, but I just don't want to expose myself to that kind of abuse. I'm dissatisfied enough with my 9-5 routine. I like "hard video games" but ultimately I prefer multiplayer to be working together to overcome some problem. You know, baby games.
  17. ObjectiveGameReviews.com - A Subtle Journey of Discovery

May I suggest calling it "The Objectivists" page.
  18. Randy was a great guest. I feel that he did a particularly good job elucidating his beliefs, motivations, and processes. Well spoken.
  19. Haha, yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. I'm not sure how many people are devoted to DOTA2 which seems to be constantly shipping stuff, and my L4D2 seems to constantly update, though I haven't played much to know what changes. I can't decide whether working at Valve is a Utopia or a Terry Gilliam-esque non-hierarchal but bureaucratic nightmare. it never cease to amaze me how little material seems to come out of an organization that successful.
  20. Return of the Steam Box!

I'm not a special business guy, but I bet if Valve exchanged a cut of their Steam take on any game for a guaranteed Linux port, we'd see some uptick. Or even a reduced fee for any Linux version sold. I bet a numbers guy could crunch those numbers easy!
  21. Guacamelee

for the jumping puzzle i would jump, then uppercut, and reserve the double jump for re-positioning. also, an air headbutt is good for a 1-2 second stall to pick your landing zone. it was a good hard. it's worth it for the picture of el presidente's daughter trying to fight the chicken ref for giver her a red card.
  22. Guacamelee

Only Tree Tops pushed me over the hump where I shamefully blurted at my monitor. The endings are pretty wildly different, if you care, but you have youtube.
  23. It's beginning to look a lot like...

this photo of Grinderman is one of my favorite band photos: http://blogs.courant.com/eric_danton_sound_check/97637bc24df872fbf47d11a9cc32b54e.jpeg
  24. Idle Thumbs 139: Happy News Year

My goal in creation is to diminish other's fun so they're as miserable as me!
  25. General Video Game Deals Thread

holy crap. he also has a level 100 foil version.
