does unity have a system for spite based animation? i have a semi-started adventure game, with a number of walk cycles, made in AGS. I don't think I'd want to switch to 3d models. Mostly because I wouldn't know where to start.

Bioshock Finite: Irrational Games shuts down
feelthedarkness replied to gregbrown's topic in Video Gaming
If 2K owns Irrational, Levine doesn't get to be the one to "shut it down" unless he somehow negotiated the world's sweetest contract. I mean, The Docs at BioWare had had it, and they're both out, but that place isn't going anywhere on EA's watch. I don't have any theories, but I definitely believe the publisher gets to make the finance decisions. i.e. we aren't paying all these people after this day. -

You probably need independent funding, like DF has, to play that level of managerial shuffle. -

Because if you get rid of all the people there is a TON of money left in the system. HEYOO! But the note says "To make narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable." That's kind of back to basics system shock, no? -
just paint maps with total abandon then figure out what the game is trying to say after that. also, spectacular work!

I've been meaning to catch up on this, having only played act one. (GOTY 2013 and also the thing I would point to as "game as serious art.") Anyway, should I play L&D before Act II, and then The Entertainment after II?

That Mattie Brice piece is awesome, and sidebar: how come nobody remembers FANTASY ZONE?! Flappy could be Opa Opa's cousin. -

Also, it briefly came up at the very end, but BUCK HUNTER was a big, cool thing in Manhattan for a minute. The machines are networked, and there is either a card swipe or USB dongle thing that locks high score initials to an ID. One of my friends is really good at it, and the island gets divided into de facto territories. Players travel around defending their rankings and controlling their territory. I remember going to some random ass bar because she heard they added a machine and since it was in her territory she needed to lock the #1 spot. I think she got a wild card spot to go to the World Championships in 2012. -

What's a simple description of app store rating juking? Like sockpuppet 5starring? I love human interactions like "I could face that wrath for 50k a day." "I live with you and no you couldn't." For the record, I'm also more than willing to try to face it for that money too. -

I've been playing a ton of GW2 again. I think they nailed the MMO thing about as well as you can. 1) It was designed specifically around the Bartle Test, trying to provide a number of viable avenues to experience the game. 2) Much of the day to day game experience is uninstanced, with the majority of the game happening in the overworld. 3) Two kinds of PvP, where one kind is gear neutral and small team based, the other is a world conquest on huge maps letting you wear your regular stuff. 4) For the most part gear has remained stat capped from release. You can upgrade for cool looking stuff, but Epic on Day one is still Epic on day 400. (The did add an additional tier of gear that is 3-5% better, but fairly time consuming to get). -

Two of my friends, MMO vets, were in the beta, and both uninstalled it after the first sitting. -

I prefer a bit more whimsy in my ships, as though we didn't live in a society driven by militaristic fervor, requiring all vessels to be submarines. -
A monument to my stalled projects! A while ago, I started working on a vintage adventure game in AGS, but I kind of stalled. I built a decent intro and demo area with most of the functionality, and some conversations, but no real puzzles. Here is some of the (unfinished) background art, first walk cycle, and the name. I think I was going for a deliberately busted perspective thing. i'm not sure it worked, because I didn't always do it. Hah.

Are all the King's Bountry games equally good? I know Lord Remo tlaks them up fairly often on the cast. A bunch are on sale on GOG for another 11 hours. should I grab the newest? Crossroads?

Idle Thumbs 143: This One's Fr4e

I can hang with lore when it's built by doing, as in the Fallout stuff, because its tangled web is largely constructed by things you've done. It adds up nicely in New Vegas, including references to the original, cancelled F3, but in a way that isn't essential to know. I think Mass Effect does it pretty well too, though it also has a bit more regular fake history, that i don't really dig into. -
i agree about some of the grossness, but i love the way they handled the surface sections. i thought the mechanics cleverly supported the world, where having to out into open space became terrifying. endless spawning enemies, and toxic environments have you scrambling to get back into a grimey hole. i actually felt a bit nervous having to leave the tunnels.
