"Oh, hey Laxan, some weird postcard came for you earlier." "Oh, was it an Idle Thumbs one?" "....it just says databases." Best. Thanks thumbs!- 141 replies

Something about him being able to let go of the microphone and continue on normally still blows my mind.

Britney Spears postcard was a nice touch.

I'm just past the first 100 pages, and it feels pretty silly to write anything about this book when there's so much left -- but man those first few chapters just worked for me personally. I think Wallace nails a particular brand of hypertension and anxiety that often seems excessive or forced when others attempt it. I thought the same going into that second chapter with the unnamed dope-addict, but it won me over entirely. I have no idea if the addict mindset described is accurate by any means, but I really found it engrossing. I can see why his use of repetition would grate on others though. Also, at times it seems almost like Neal Stephenson narrative - except where Stephenson slaps you in the face with the oddities of the fictional world, then gradually peels them away, I get the sense Wallace is slowing revealing these weird quirks that will eventually build to something larger.

Oh, by no means am I saying the two are equivalent in worth -- but one is probably much more unwanted than the other.

My ownership of 12 goddamn DOTA2 keys probably suggests what the real fruitcake is here.

Not that I imagine it would change the beliefs of 'Ancient Aliens' level of conspiracy theorists, but this guy produced a pretty interesting video looking at the moon hoax argument purely from a film production angle. He notes that as the generation shifts, people just don't realise how recent film production is, and how advanced the technology was in 1969. The ironic take-home is that faking a moon landing was probably way more difficult than just going to the moon.

I think that rad nebula gif needs to be sped up and put to some dubstep to really capture the true majesty.

fucknick.com - 'a Congrats Nick resource & online community' is way more disappointing than what you imagine. I was expecting the dateline this week to be "OR A CEO", but maybe you guys are saving the worst for the brekoncast.

To make him as lifelike as possible, they programmed him to never be able to stay on time. /Leno out

I saw in an interview somewhere that they have a set amount of levels, and only have the ability (supposedly) to remove levels to help speed it up if progress starts to stagnate.

The first time I fought a bear it was pretty exhilarating. Just randomly wandering though the wilderness then oh shit a bear oh god. Yet, over time, the kill X bears with Y weapon quests warped any sense of fun that could be had by hunting. It was like that common problem in WoW: you never felt compelled to kill a monster that wasn't related to a quest. Why should I even bother killing this bear if there's probably a bear-killing quest a few towns over. It also didn't help that these quests were no fun at all, and felt ridiculously video gamey. So not only did the game discourage non-quest hunting, but it then drove any desire you had to hunt at all into the ground. I'm all for interlocking systems, but this game really did lack restraint when it came to arbitrary gamification of an otherwise cool open-world. Oh, just got the movement mechanic on the second island. It's pretty rad, and it's a shame they buried behind 20 hours of content.

There's an older version from before Razor bought out the company, so maybe try that for less obnoxious branding. -

There's this razer game booster thing. http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster It's useful for clearing out processes that you've left running and generally freeing up resources. But its main use is its built in video capture mode. I've yet to try it but I've heard pretty good things. -
IGNerator is the best. Favourite 2 from yesterday: "How anime pillows could increase MineSweeper's popularity." "Should Imagine: Babyz be considered racist?"

You've activated The Walking Dead DOUBLE XP mode. All of your hope and dreams get crushed TWICE AS FAST.

WALKING DEAD GOTY EDITION DLC SCRIPT LEAK: "Lee, please, I'm so hungry..." "It's ok sweet pea, I found this crate of delicious Mountain Dew, so we too can be powered by Dew." "I should have stayed in the damn tree." Seriously though, congrats guys! TWD really deserved it.
