Erkki Posted September 21, 2004 I'm kind of disappointed that they are focusing so much on the combat with the next Prince of Persia game. It doesn't seem like they'll be making it more closer to the original Prince -- there will still be hordes of enemies from what I have seen. But what they are doing with the combat does sound interesting -- read about it in this Q&A on GameSpot, for example. Only one thing bothers me about it: they are saying that every player will develop a custom fighting style, but at the end of the interview, there is this: Actually, the design of the enemies is part of the new combat system. To make combat in PoP:WW deeper than all other combat action games, we wanted to define a large variety of enemies with different skills and behaviors for each. In doing so, we actually force players to develop a new strategy for each enemy. In fact, we've designed the enemies to force players to master the new fighting system.Different enemies fight in different ways [by] taking advantage of their physical characteristics and using either short-ranged or long-ranged attacks. Hordes of creatures will join forces and use various strategies to try to destroy the Prince. In order to defeat these enemies, you have to exploit all the possibilities of the combat system. It sounds like instead of giving great freedom of developing your own combat style, they may end up forcing you to fight in certain styles at certain times, with maybe some freedom. I hope not, though. If they pull it off right, it might turn out to be one of the coolest action-combat systems ever.
Metalmickey Posted September 21, 2004 Gazooks! Wtf is that screenshot about?? If that's supposed to represent all the potential multi-action-type combos that a player is free to chain off at will when 'free-form' fighting, I feel... intimidated I'm intrigued to see how user-friendly and intuitive it really ends up being, it could definately go either way. Some of the clips here look pretty cool. Still, I'm sure the kind folks here at idlethumbs will publish some sort of article about this revolutionary new fighting system when it comes out (hint hint ) Also, what does anyone else think about them making the artist formerly know as the prince of Persia into some sort of bad-ass, tattooed, black-clad whilrling dervish of death? 1. Yeah! 'bout time they hardened up the pansy, pastel coloured ponce. Slap a couple of axes in his hands and bring on the pain! Mine's a pint. ...or 2. What do they think they're doing?? PoP is supposed to be a platform game! The prince is an acrobat, not a goddamn trained assasin. If I wanted 3D slaughter and pools of blood, I'd get Bloodrayne or Mortal Combat 5, or whatever other crap you psychos like!
Bc9b Posted September 22, 2004 This is one of those things that we will have to wait for the game to coming out before I judge if more of a focus on combat is a good thing or not. I personaly like that their trying something new and not going with just a repeat of what they did before. One last comment: the story of the Prince being fated to die at the begining and seeing when it will happen sounds really really cool!
