Suggestion for other 'Least Dangerous Game'... Games

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

While listening to the recap of the DayZ showdown of Vanaman vs Moss in DayZ the Idle Thumbs guys talked about the idea of other games.  (Also, believe it was mentioned there was already talk in the forums on this topic but after searching around a bit I was unsuccessful in discovering it so apologies if I'm double posting)

The two ideas I can think of right now are Trouble in Terrorist Town and Dark Business.

TTT is a gamemode of Garry's Mod in which the power of the game comes from player interaction and especially VoiP.

-Short version is its the tabletop game Mafia in video game form.

-Long Version is you are all Terrorists models from the game Counter Strike.  At the start of each round a percent of players are Traitors while the rest are 'Innocent Terrorists' (or sometimes 1 or 2 Detectives who aid the Innocent).

The goal of each round is for the Innocents to figure out who among them are Traitors before the Traitors in turn kill all the Innocents.

Synopsis for another Least Dangerous Game

While I think this is a game the Idle Thumb guys (as well as the community) will enjoy the rounds last 5-7 minutes and streaming would reveal your designated team.  However as a game with friends all using the in game voice chat or even using a 3rd party voice program it creates an experience similar to one you'd get in DayZ of "Is this guy wanting to kill me"

----------------------------------------

The other idea that would probably be a big hit but requires some organization is Dark Business.

It is a three team face-off centered around some hostages and an ammo truck and is put to great effect in the ArmA series.

Two of the teams (say Red and Green) are trying to meet at a place of mutual decision to trade some Hostages for an Ammo Truck, however both sides may make an attempt to keep both instead of trading!  To throw a curve ball into this already tense trade-off the Blue team are trying to just rescue the hostages (who given the option want to be saved by Blue rather then traded to be prisoners of Red).

To top it all off the traditional encounter takes place at night where the Blue team have nightvision with a helicopter for transport and the Red and Green team have trucks with flashlights (and headlights).

One final note while the Green and Red team are matched in number of players the Blue team is halved in players if not more.  (Say 12R v 12G v 6B)

Synopsis for another Least Dangerous Game

With some adjustment, this could be an super fun encounter in DayZ (maybe when they add Vehicles).  The dynamic between the three teams and the hostages have made some pretty unique results (for example a hostage hijacking a truckload of armed Green Soldiers because the driver got out first).  This could also be done in ArmA 2 or 3 but not sure if it would be a good fit for the Idle Thumbs community (happy to be proven wrong)

In closing, would you like to see another Least Dangerous Game and if so one of these, or perhaps one that you've just thought of?  Discuss!

I don't have any crazy game variant suggestions at the moment, but based on the news that Twitch streaming is coming to iPad soon (http://www.polygon.com/2014/3/5/5473244/twitch-streaming-mobile-games) I'd like to see Idle Thumbs stream a couple of games of Glitch Tank. That's a game developed by Michael Brough, who did 868-HACK which has received some well deserved critical acclaim. But he considers Glitch Tank his best work even though not many people have messed around with it because basically it is a local-only 2 player iPad game. But it is ridiculous fun, and seems like a great game for Idle Thumbs to play.
