Kirby Mass Attack for Nintendo DS

I have been told that it is very awesome, it apparently feels kind of like a spiritual successor to Canvas Curse.

I can confirm awesome. I'm almost done the fourth (and I think final?) world. I'll write more about it when I'm not about to run out the door to work.

So I beat this game tonight. It was pretty awesome. They actually do a pretty damn good job of mixing up the things that your hoard of Kirbies is doing. This is surprising given that when controlling 10 characters simultaneously with one pointer, all I expected to be able to do was furiously tap the right side of the screen while screaming "FREEEEEEEDOOOOOOM!!!" or something to that effect. Not that there isn't plenty of that in the game. In fact, doing that never really gets old, thanks to the animation. Aside from that though, there are flick-your-Kirbies-at-an-enemy-strategically bits, zero-g space bits, Donkey Kong style barrel cannon bits, and much more. It all gets put together very well, and I enjoyed pretty much all of my time with it.

One thing that is not so awesome is that at the end of the game, after you have finished every level of any consequence, it says that in order to get to the final boss you need to find every rainbow medal. Every level in the game has three to five medals in it, and one medal on each level is rainbow coloured. I was pretty thorough going through, so I only had about 7 medals to pick up by the time I got to that point, but it still seemed tedious after how well paced everything to that point had been. Even worse, all you get after all of that effort is a lacklustre world 5 that consists of replaying each boss fight and then fighting a ridiculously easy final boss. Not that I expected Kirby to be hard at any point, but that last hour or so of the game really sucked a bit of life out of an otherwise fantastic game.

I still highly recommend it, but be warned that if a boss-rush section is not your thing, you may want to skip out on the game at the point that it tells you to go find all the rainbow medals.
