Tanukitsune Posted September 28, 2010 When I heard about this I though it would be like Lost Winds on PC (It was on WiiWare, but who wants to waggle around their hands?), but it surprised me and was much more! A simple Google on who Nyx is will kinda spoil the game, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to Google it, because I figured it out by myself... Nyx is the Goddess of the Night, but why did she fall in love with Ikarus? How did they even meet? This doesn't make sense because SHADOWS HURT HER! SHADOWS.... HURT... THE NIGHT GODDESS! FFFFFF! But it does make sense because it makes the Sun God is the bad guy... except he uses shadows? Oh well, Helios the Sun God has made the word an inhospitable dessert and EVERYONE IS DEAD, EVERYTHING IS IN RUIN! Except Ikarus who was flying around with his wings who just fell... Nyx's quest is to find Ikarus and even though she's a goddess , she's forgotten everything.. how convenient! She can kinda fly... it's more of a quintuple jump? And she can glide too! At first all you do is glide, jump and dodge, until you meet you first god who gives you a mild telekinetic power, and as you advance you'll get a power or two more! Visually it's OK, the platforms are practically the same the whole game, the only thing that changes is the background. One thing I have to say about this game is that it's VERY HARD, possibly more than VVVVVV, while it doesn't require you to be as precise the game doesn't have many checkpoints or health packs and you're practically defenseless for most of the game. But since it's a physics based game, using your brain can help a little, but unfortunately you have you use your skills mostly to advance and rarely to defend or attack yourself. The physics engine seems to work fine for once! In most physics based games you can either abuse it to make it too easy or it's borked and you can't do anything right. This game doesn't kid around, one of the levels has a giant eye-gong thing that will summons an insta-kill sand storm if it sees you, so you now you have to find a hiding spot while you try to NOT DIE HORRIBLY! So... it's ridiculously hard... Imagine a Mega Man game where you can only take 4 hits, the physics work, the graphics are OK if not repetitive... Steam has a demo, but I don't think it gets to the hard part? *shrugs*
mikemariano Posted September 28, 2010 Steam has a demo, but I don't think it gets to the hard part? I played the WiiWare demo of NyxQuest a few months ago. It definitely didn't get to any "hard part", though it was mildly fun the whole time. I'm concerned, though, that it gets so difficult. Many of the hazards in the demo were unexpected; I only discovered them through trial and error. Cheap hits and a high difficulty aren't a good combination, if that's what it is! I also have a pet peeve with characters that have wings, but can't really fly. Because of this Nyx got gobbled up by more quicksand than I'd care to admit. That's probably the hardest part of the game, specially since it can destroy the nearly non existent floor you're on? Although maybe that's too far in for it to be in the demo? I'd really like to see if anybody else has played it to the "hard part", I think it was very frustrating but doable, but maybe it's easier or harder for others? mikemariano Posted September 29, 2010 Did you fight a boss? If I remember correctly I did not fight a boss. I just jumped around a lot. I do encourage everybody to at least download the demo. It seems like a solid platformer, and that might appeal to some of you. I am currently having fun with the Xbox Live demo of Sonic Adventure. It consists solely of the first Emerald Coast level of the game, thereby making this demo the best next-gem Sonic game ever. I could buy the whole game, but I know it's just fishing with Big the Cat and VMU-less Chao raising. I think even NyxQuest has less of a drop-off in quality from demo to full game than Sonic Adventure does.
Kolzig Posted September 29, 2010 This was a lot of fun on the Wiiware, one of the best Wiiware games out there. The Wii controls worked well in my opinion. Might concider getting the Steam version at some point. It's a game that a lot of people should try out at least, the spanish developers certainly have done a nice job with the game! Tanukitsune Posted September 29, 2010 No comments on the difficulty? I do think the first boss is kinda ridiculous, although oddly enough it gets easier at the end?
