miffy495 Posted August 14, 2006 As I'm probably going to be getting a 360 sometime in the near future (student loans come in soon, and are always a couple of thousand more than I need) I got myself one of the wired 360 gamepads. I figured that even if I don't end up getting the actual system for a while, I could still use it with my PC so its worth it anyway. I know a couple of you guys also use 360 pads with your PCs, so I thought I'd turn to you. What kind of config software do you use to get everything running well? I've got some basic stuff set up, but the dead zone on the sticks seems to be a bit too small. Any tips?
Wrestlevania Posted August 14, 2006 I don't use any third-party stuff for mine, just plug it in and use it as it comes. You're right about the sticks being a bit twitchy, though. We have an Xbox 360 in the office with wireless pads, and the sticks on those feel smoother and less snappy. So I guess it's simply a case of wearing them in really--same goes for the D-pad. If you do find any decent joystick configuration software, please post a link on here. The reason I ask is because some games don't recognise the different axis of the Xbox 360 pad as you'd expect. For example, the right stick isn't x2 y2 as you might think, it's something like yRotation and zRotation. In the meantime, you can break your shiny new little puppy in with the most-excellent Grid Wars, which maps both sticks perfectly and plays like a dream. Grab it quick though as Bizarre Creations are trying to get all Geometry Wars rip-offs removed from the web wholesale.
miffy495 Posted August 14, 2006 I have done so. I've been playing Grid Wars for months now using a crappy rip-off PS2 pad from Logitech, and this is so much smoother. Also the first time I encountered any troubles though. For instance, it registered firing left and right to the analog shoulder buttons rather than the stick, so that had to be reconfigured. Works fine now, but still having some problems with the dead zone. I suspect the problem is with MS's software for PC, as I have tried out the pad on an actual 360 (such as the one in your office) and it was smooth and played incredibly well.
