Marek Posted March 4, 2005 A new DS game, with a cool name. [official site] Scheduled for a Japanese release on April 7th 2005 including headphones, Electro Plankton is being produced by contemporary Japanese musician Toshio Iwai, designer of other musicical interactive devices, will be released through a currently undiclosed publisher.Electro Plankton which is being referred to as a "Touchable Media Art" game, places players in a water-based world. Within this world exists ten types of "electric plankton" creatures. These creatures will react to your voice and touch, also based on your touches and voice inputs, the game will output different audio/video patterns, modifying your voice with a variety of amusing effects. Tanukitsune Posted March 4, 2005 Hey! He is the guy behind Sim Tunes! The most obscure and forgotten member of the Sims family! And apparently he seems to be recycling some ideas from that game? In Sim Tunes you drew a picture and some musical bugs ran over the dots and made a tune, I wonder if each placton will be a different instrument too? (Re-reads the news clip) Yep, it reminds me of Sim Tunes alright, excpet this time we have video too... Anyway, I liked Sim Tunes, so I'm keeping my eye on this one... hermes Posted March 6, 2005 ahh - it seems there will be some really nice crazy arse games for the ds... maybe it's the crazy arse design of the ds.....
SiN Posted March 7, 2005 maybe it's the crazy arse design of the ds..... it certainly is because of the crazy arse design of the DS! i think as time passes, developers are gonna get more and more creative with the system ... so far thats been happening, i hope this goes on, because that video is fucking stunning! Marek Posted March 7, 2005 Another Code, Electroplankton, Nintendogs and Caduceus definitely seem like titles that really couldn't have been made for another platform. The only bad things about the DS are its somewhat subpar industrial design, and its weak launch lineup. Everything else about the DS has got me extremely super excited and I'm buying one the day it comes out here in Europe.
Tanukitsune Posted March 7, 2005 I was one of the lucky ones who got one of VIP packs and got almost a month before the rest.... Of course, after beating Super Mario 64 DS, I have to wait to the official lauch to buy more games... But, like Sim Tunes, I wouldn't call this a game exactly, but since all the infoI have about this game is in japanese, I'm not sure... Tochable Media Art... I like the sound of that! Nick Posted March 7, 2005 Yep, DS definately has a lot of ptential. Maybe an RTS game could work for the DS? Using the stylus to circle a unit and then click where you want it to move and so on. I think I will definately be getting a DS from what I've seen.
Marek Posted March 7, 2005 Maybe an RTS game could work for the DS? Majesco will publish an Age of Empires game for the DS. A Commander & Conquer: Red Alert game for the DS is rumored, but not yet confirmed... The DS lends itself well to typical PC genres. Another example is Another Code, which is a point-and-click adventure game. And Metroid Prime: Hunters has a control method that from what I've seen gets pretty damn close to the fluidity of mouselook+strafe.
Nick Posted March 7, 2005 I do really like the look of Another Code. I can easily see myself playing that on the train each morning, and probably getting to engrossed to remember to get off and go to work.
Marek Posted March 7, 2005 Another interesting title that isn't a Nintendo franchise title is Lost in Blue. Seems fun. Why are these obscure DS games hidden all over the internet? Players find themselves shipwrecked on a deserted island after an accident at sea. Soon this castaway befriends a stranded girl and the two must work together in order to survive the elements of the island. Players must hone their skills at all sorts of survival tasks, including hunting animals and gathering supplies, as well as cooking the food for sustenance. It's also important to establish a good relationship between the two characters, since the game's ending depends on your social skills and how you've developed the friendship and lifestyle on the island. There's also a second adventure after the first one ends where players take control of the girl and get a completely different adventure experience. Sounds vaguely like ICO in terms of gameplay (it looks a bit standard though).
Tanukitsune Posted March 7, 2005 Reminds me of Standed Kids/Surivival Kids which was from Konami too...
