First info about Half-Life 2 expansion pack

Some of the first bits of info on the upcoming Half-Life 2 expansion pack have made their way out. Via PCGamer UK edition we get this blurb:

In the latest issue of PC Gamer (UK) magazine, Valve Software revealed some details about the upcoming addon for Half-Life 2. Alyx Vance will be a playable character instead of being a NPC. A new weapon, Alyx Gun, will be introduced in the game - it is a combination of pistol, SMG and sniper rifle. The dog will be there too, but, like in the original game, only as a NPC.

That's pretty cool sounding info, I think it will be cool to have Alyx as the star of the expansion pack.

"UPDATE: It looks like either PCGUK is entirely wrong, or Valve just doesnt want this info out yet. An email from Doug Lombardi of Valve states:

'Despite the rumors, Valve has not announced any plans for an HL2 expansion'"

I noticed this in last month's PCG myself. The Alyx expansion rumour seems to be going strong in many communities, and was in full circulation even before PCGUK included it. Perhaps it was an early leak, or perhaps it's complete bullshit. Either way, I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

im pretty sure i recall hearing valve talk about that before ... that there would be expansions (naturally) but also that alyx would be the star of one of them.

im rather confident that'll happen ... im also hoping for a dog expansion pack ... that would be pretty damn cool

I'm mostly hoping for a Barney HL2 expansion pack OR the return of that Opposing Forces guy OR a Combine expansion pack OR...

Personally, while I found Alyx as an amazing demonstration of Source's new AI technology, I never really gave a damn about her character. I like Barney, Dog, Eli, even Kliener and Mossman, but for some reason Alyx never really grew on me...
