Tanukitsune Posted December 5, 2004 I just can't decide which to get, the retail edition of Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition isn't out yet, so I'd have to wait for it... HL 2 Gold looks cool but I'd feel weird to download it (although it wouldn't be the first download only game I'd buy) , but since I have a decent speed (1Mbps) the wait wouldn't be too bad, but... The extras shipped are pyshical and the shipping is kinda expensive... It would feel weird to get a box of game with no game in it, but it does have better extras than the retail version... Also I have no CD-R or DVD-R to burn it... (I'm not even sure "burn" is the correct or "hip" term) I might get one in the future... Blargh! I just can't decide!!! Metalmickey Posted December 9, 2004 I'm having the same dilemma. Gold or retail CE? I'd prefer a slightly bigger than usual tin to the too-big-for-my-shelf card box that the gold extras will presumably come in. My main worry about the retail version(s) is that apparently you have to have the disc in the drive every time you want to play it, even though you register the CD-key with steam once installed, and hence can presumably download it anywhere your steam account is thereafter. So why the hell must you also have the disc in the drive?? Dumb! If they change that in the next week, I'm definately going for the retail CE. I'm also very slightly concerned by not knowing how CE owners will be able to purchase the Day of Defeat mod when that's released, as I'd like to try that too, but wouldn't want to have to pay more than a pittance if they charge extra for it. Metalmickey Posted December 9, 2004 Yeah, I don't really want postcards, soundtrack, hat and posters, etc. The CE still comes with the hintbook thingy and t-shirt, that's god enough for me.
