Dark Souls 3 {Dark souls 2 successor [Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor)]} (Bloodborne's something)
Gwardinen replied to kaputt's topic in Video Gaming
The world serpent things in that game freak me the fuck out. Just trying to comprehend the place that they are reaching up from, and what the rest of them might be, totally gives me the heebie jeebies. What if it's all one organism? -

That is a cool looking cat. I wish my desk had a cat like that. Edit: Your professional-looking mic is also pretty neat. Tools of a serious podcast host!

The companion's death does seem horribly inevitable, yes. The only way I don't see it dying is if you sacrifice yourself for it/to rejuvenate its species or something. Probably a higher likelihood that it sacrifices itself for you, though.

Happy birthday, Famous! Hope the reaction to Firewatch made for a good gift.

Sony had a fair few things that looked cool, with the catch being almost none of them are out this year.

Jurassic World: Wasting away in Margaritaville
Gwardinen replied to RubixsQube's topic in Idle Banter
There are probably greater tragedies in the world. But I can't think of any. -
I'm not really in any hurry to see Jurassic World, but maybe I'll just play this anyway. I am kind of into Lego games, and I am very into Jeff Goldblum.

Yeah I wasn't being sarcastic when I said it was the most interesting, I actually did kind of like it. But it's legitimately the only thing I remember reading at school that I enjoyed (except, again, the first Harry Potter).
-
I envy you all the things you were assigned to read as teenagers. The most interesting thing I got to read at that age was the Importance of Being Earnest. Oh and we read the first Harry Potter book for some reason.

Just watched Hot Girls Wanted and I'm really fucking sad now. I might have real thoughts to post in the morning. For the moment I'll just say it's well made, if pretty one track.

I have heard nothing but bad things about how messy and overwrought the plot and writing is, so I'd be interested to hear if more Thumbs actually take to it.

Yeah, you can consume potions and decoctions from the inventory, and can change the quick select items too I believe. One thing you cannot do is use oils - those are a pre-fight preparation item only.

Hearthstone: Because what Magic really needed was F2P mechanics
Gwardinen replied to Problem Machine's topic in Video Gaming
What mostly surprises me about that advert is that it's really bad. Then again, every time I watch normal TV (blessedly rarely nowadays) I'm surprised by how bad most adverts are, and this is only more true in the US (said with no xenophobia whatsoever, I mourn for my American brethren who have to deal with even dumber and shittier advertising). I cannot remember the last time any desire was engendered in me by a TV ad for anything except food. -
I'm only using a fairly low version of it, but the Over 9000 Weight Limit Mod can be useful if you don't like being tethered to merchants on a regular basis.

Pride here isn't until the end of August, but it's a really big deal. Manchester has always had a big gay population, relative to many cities, and a whole section of the city centre is unironically (and these days fairly unjudgementally) known as the Gay Village. That said, I don't expect to see much of anything to do with bisexuality or transexuality in it. Bi erasure and transphobia are definitely alive and well in the gay community here, sadly. Some of my friends in LGBT organisations have been wanting to drop the "T" for a while, and let transsexual people go their own way with their own agendas. Some of this is practical and sensible - many issues don't cross over and conflating sexual orientation with gender identity isn't always to the benefit of either group - but a not insignificant part of the time it's also just ignorance and squeamishness over transexuality. Bizarrely, though, drag queens will definitely feature heavily.

You should! If sufficient Thumbs were interested in going to Gamescom I would actually show up, as it's the only major games convention on my continent.

Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
Gwardinen replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
I have been wondering whether they just reboot the franchise next time and simply call it "the Xbox". -
Shit, I wonder whether that's why no one has globes anymore. The internet answers any questions about geography you might ever have. Google Maps and Wikipedia are where you go whenever you wonder "Where the hell is Tazmania, anyway?" now. Also, yes, that picture is 90s as fuck, down to the white desk with bright primary coloured drawers.

Windows 10: "It wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9."
Gwardinen replied to Urthman's topic in Idle Banter
Yeah I'm going to upgrade because at the moment DirectX 12 is only coming to Windows 10. Microsoft may go back on that and offer it to older versions down the line, but since game performance is very important to me I feel like it's enough to get me onto this particular bandwagon. Anyway, isn't the rule with Windows that it alternates between good and bad versions? If 7 was good and 8 was bad, surely 10 (for some reason not 9) should be good? -
Official Giant Bomb Thread Mostly for Complaining About Dan
Gwardinen replied to tegan's topic in Idle Banter
Yeah this has led to me almost never actually going to the site anymore. I get the podcasts through my phone app, and watch the videos on YouTube. So without any written content I have this strange relationship with Giant Bomb in which I experience a decent amount of their stuff but never visit their site.- 1367 replies

That time chart is actually very helpful. There may be conferences I watch after the fact due to them being on very late over here, but I'll probably hang out in the Idle Thumbs Steam group chat for the others, as usual. Or is IRC going to be the place to be this year?

Yeah, if they went to crazy lengths to shoot that in a different way, they really shouldn't have bothered. It looks like shit. As I believe I mentioned earlier in this thread, it really killed the emotional impact of that moment for me.

And now my whole day is about this. It's so pointless, but so well designed! The instant gratification is too strong to resist.
