Dear Sirs/Mesdames: I write to you in regards to a posting made by one Mr. Twig, wherein he cast aspersions on the practice of "signing" forum posts. Contrary to Mr. Twig's assertions, singing posts is a clear indicator of courtesy in internet communications and a welcome reminder of a more congenial time. Please remove said assertion forthwith. Regards, i saw dasein.

I haven't played FO3NV in a long time so my memory is not that clear, but as I recall you pretty much have to head counter-clockwise from the starting area. Otherwise you will get killed by high-level enemies (wasp dudes and deathclaws, mainly). One of my favourite things about all Bethseda games is your ability to just strike out in any direction and have an adventure, and I didn't have that experience with FO3NV. I don't care about the story in either/any of the fallout games, so that never bothered me.

I feel the opposite is true. FO3 lets you wander aimlessly through the desert pretty much right away. There is weird/cool stuff to find everywhere. FO3NV felt much more constrained to me: there are only a few areas you can go from the start of the game. Also I thought the FO3NV story was profoundly dumb and mostly unavoidable, and while the FO3 story is likewise dumb I didn't feel compelled to play through it. I think if you are more interested in sandbox/exploration games FO3 is better, if you are more interested in narrative choice FO3NV is better.

  7. I Had A Random Thought...

besides which "he or she" presupposes a fixed dichotomy of gender as opposed to the non-gendered "they".
  8. i was going to say "it worked out for me" but i'm in the office 8AM boxing day so...
  9. Generally "I don't know what to do with my life so I guess I'll get a masters degree" is a rookie move.

Microsoft is not a community group. Penny Arcade is. People have a greater ability and commensurate responsibility to fix problems in their community than they do to fix problems in a huge multi-national community.

Garner sez empathy is the ability to imagine oneself in another person's position and to experience all the sensations connected with it, while sympathy is compassion for or commiseration with another. So like I sympathize with the pains of child birth but do not empathize since I cannot imagine myself in that position and/or experience all sensations connected thereto.

i no longer enjoy playing video games. i don't have much time and when i do play i get no pleasure. I've enjoyed playing games since i was a child and i am now 30, but apparently no longer? Perversely I still read some video game websites and get caught up in the hype of new games, but don't actually enjoy playing them. feels weird yall.
  13. Books, books, books...

If you like Roald Dahl you should definitely read Graham Greene who is a better writer and equally funny and way sadder and only slightly less fantastical. There is a complete collection of short works that is pretty easy to get and a sure bet for xmas bliss.

If only there was some way to somehow obscure them from view... perhaps in RY2E...
  15. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

i saw her with sufjan a few years ago and it was alright.
  16. XCOM Enemy Unknown

Normal is pretty easy, but part of me just likes watching my mans run around shooting things. So I usually play on normal.
  17. I Had A Random Thought...

Hmm maybe it's not to keep the air in but to keep space rays out. you don't want space rays in your colony.

    thumbs plz explain culture.
  20. Idle Thumbs 131: Real Life

I thought hipsterdom was about ironic detachment, not a desire to appear authentic.
  21. XCOM Enemy Unknown

The new maps are indeed really nice. There is one with a crashed space ship in the middle of a city that is particularly awesome. I also seriously love the MECs. I find it impossible not to cackle as I flamethrower through a wall killing a handful of sectoids at once. So good!
  22. XCOM Enemy Unknown

More XCOM guys. Not going to lie, pretty excited.
  23. It depends where you live. Most places it is +50, but in the US it is in +70. The longer copyright benefits both the copyright owner and the creator, at least in as much as the longer the copyright, the more valuable the copyright: the creator can ask for a higher price for a 70 year copyright than he or she could for a 50 year copyright. My understanding is the "+50" is there to benefit older creators, not just in terms of their heirs but in the sense that if you are 75 and sick and want to sell your rights, no one is going to buy them if they expire as soon as you die. From a practical perspective the purchaser needs some certainty that the right will not expire in the near future.
  24. That's a bit misleading. The current copyright law ensures that derivative works enrich the holder of the copyright. That might be a corporation, but it might also be the creator or another natural person (e.g. the creator's heirs). Nothing about the current copyright law requires (or even necessarily favours) corporations to hold a copyright.
  25. Which game should I get? - Steam Halloween Sale

Dead Space 2 is horrible. Dead Space 1 is ok if you like non-stop jump scares. I'd skip both though. e: Dead Space 2 is particularly bad on PC. For some reason, the PC version comes with all of the DLC included, which sounds like a good thing but isn't: the DLC includes game-breaking armor and weapons, so the game's whole difficulty curve and crafting system are out the window. And there's no easy way of telling which items are supposed to be unlocked and which items are cheats.
