  1. E3 2K11

And I'll bloody well continue being judgmental, thanks. It's not that hard to reach over and nab that '0' key. And since I was mostly joking. . .
  2. E3 2K11

Kill you and all you stand for. That said, should be some good info coming out of this one.

That made my day Pirate, thank you!
  4. And yet it would still be a factory of utterly fantastic memes, heart-wrenching renditions of grenades rolling down hills, and rogue wizards.
  5. Far Cry 2

My most recent "fucking AI. . ." moment was thus; I was doing an Arms Dealer mission, and they were at the south end of the map, where they circle in the desert near the bus station, safehouse and arms dealer, and I went to take them out. I crossbowed the gun-truck, which pissed off the escorts. I sniped the driver out of the escorting jeep, and the gunner got in the drivers seat and proceeded to attempt to run me over. I waited until the opportune moment, shot the crossbow at the truck, and deftly stepped to the side as it catapulted hood-over-bumper at me, a la that orc at Minas Tirith. I was then promptly run over from behind. Ah, Far Cry 2. . .

I don't know how everyone here feels about machinima. My view is that most of it is a gaggle of 8th graders making funny voices and jokes about whores in WoW. Occasionally however, something utterly amazing comes along. That's why I genuinely hope that if you're not already aware of Clear Skies, that you'll take the time to become so. It's essentially EVE fan-fiction machinima, with the character-level parts done in Garry's Mod (sort of.) Note when I say "fan-fiction" this has none of the bad connotations that generally implies. The third just recently released, and is probably the last one (considering the ending), so now's as good a time as any to take two and a half hours out of your day and watch probably the best machinima ever made. It's hot-drop o'clock, ladies and gentlemen. Addendum: YouTube is passable if you crank it up to the maximum res, but here are the three movies off EVE-Files for full definition. Clear Skies Clear Skies 2 Clear Skies 3
  7. Books, books, books...

I almost enjoy the Brandon Sanderson WoT books more. Still an excellent series, however.

. . .Well then. I have now seen everything. Don't try to rend this moment for me people, I can die utterly conflicted now.
  9. Minecraft

It may be an icy shithole, but godsdamnit, it took me 2 hours to pour that damn entrance and it's my icy shithole!

They are both, however, Crytek engine games, which means that hiding in bushes, le gasp, actually means you are hidden. Any of them will give you the "using your brains to outwit the environment, AI and engine" feel. But I'd say Crysis 1 (not-Warhead, mind) is the fullest experience of that.

No, no, see, it's most definitely awesome. What you should be concerned about is how those kids grow up. Awesome? Or serial killers? OR AWESOME SERIA-. . .No. Still pretty amusing.
  12. Frozen Synapse

Considering concurrent player record for the beta was something like 119, it may just be the typical indie issue of "Oh, we don't have enough servers to be this popular. . ."
  13. Frozen Synapse

Orvi FS is neat because you can challenge someone who's offline, they'll get an email about the pending turn and can complete it whenever. So go ahead and throw a game at me if you want one and I'm not around. E: I seem to be having server issues (logging in either fails or takes a good fifteen minutes.)
  14. Game of Thrones (TV show)

I can agree pretty heartily with Gwardinen's assessment. Viserys is pretty close to the books and just "got his crown" last week, so that's the end of that. I agree that Peter Dinklage is a fantastic Tyrion, and is swiftly becoming one of my favorite actors. There haven't been any real breaks from the book, and as stated, even the child actors are surprisingly good. Syrio (Arya's "dancing" tutor) is probably my favorite background character in the entire series, and Arya herself is amusing. The direwolves are also pretty neat, but have sort of been ignored since they were found, which isn't a terrible sin, but it is sad. Finally, I'm not a huge fan of Mark Addy in comedy roles, but he plays a very solid Robert Baratheon here. I'm honestly torn between liking him and despising him, so in that way, it follows the books incredibly well. 4.5/5 or 8.5/10
  15. General Video Game Deals Thread

I didn't mean the as a QQ, I just meant, it always seems to happen to the poor guys. It sucks.
  16. General Video Game Deals Thread

Europeans are being cheated on the FC2 deal, yes.
  17. Frozen Synapse

Working my way through single-player currently. Interesting bit of sci-fi. Not quite 'hard', but intriguing. Still really enjoy the game, even if I'm too quick at judging situations and typically lose.

That's. . .that's. . .that's the best thing I've ever seen. That's the only way horse (or animal) racing should be done.
  19. Could add the Planes mod. >_>
  20. More, perhaps? The Bombcast archive is only so large, and you can only listen to IT so many times before nothing is fresh.
  21. I sort of fell behind on these (read: utterly forgot) and I had kind of decided to avoid them anyway because I almost agreed with the sentiments of Jared, that it was mostly marketing. But the Oblivion Retrospective cast brought it home to me. I've always really admired Bethesda and Todd Howard, and now I can admire the rest of their developers as well for always been as awesome as I've imagined. I have no doubt that there are quite a few large studios that are filled to the brim with cool, intelligent people, but Bethesda is just that in my mind, and now I have minor confirmation. It's always cool to hear developers reminisce about their old games, it's one of my favorite attributes of video game development. Probably some of the coolest stories in professional jobs that aren't say, rocket science, come from that. And I just bought FO3:GOTY because I never properly played FO3, and damnit, I have time to kill before Skyrim. (Though not nearly as much as it once seemed.)
  22. The Dancing Thumb (aka: music recommendations)

Have I discussed. . . 64GyuozXtnQ just how much. . . wyz_2DEah4o I love 80s TV themes? HaQvBbzslJE And while it may have only just ended in the 80s, for good measure. . . 2LnK8b_jk8w Basically, I worship at the altar of Mike Post.
  23. Movie/TV recommendations

Oh dear, Martin Mull as Colonel Mustard? Christopher Lloyd as Professor Plum? I'm certainly watching this when I wake up.
  24. Recently completed video games

If enough people are interested I'll scrap this to a link and move it over. I wasn't aware of any other Thumbs playing it currently, though. This was sort of a ploy for that.
  25. The Witcher 2

It seems like most save-transfer RPGs suffer from Burning Crusade syndrome. For those who haven't invested a fair bit of time into WoW; When you exit the original game and enter the first expansion pack, there's an incredibly likely chance your first random drop from a monster will be better than something you have. It's pretty sad that that happens most of the time. Also pre-order weapons tend to either be excessively powerful, or useless after two or three hours.
