  1. E3 2K11

You're half on the money, which means I get to keep it, shove off. You're right in that I don't enjoy the mechanics of Zelda and Mario. In the case of Mario, my timing-based reflexes and hand-eye coordination mean platformers are never something I have been/will be good at. I can appreciate that they might be fun if I was good at them, but even then, it just seems like a lot of the same stuff in the Mario games everyone has always gone crazy about. Jump Bullet Bill, hit Koopa on way down, double jump for mushroom, repeat to Bowser. As for Zelda, it's kind of odd actually. I've recently started playing NetHack, and there are some vague and some potent similarities between the isometric/3d Zelda era and roguelikes. But it bothers me, much like JRPGs bother me. The story has never interested me, and in fact, again like JRPGs, is trite and tiresome. I can happily acknowledge that there are some really neat aspects of Zelda, but the Mario problem comes back around. It all boils down to the same shebang in almost every Zelda game. (Four Swords obviously excepted, I'm sure there's a Zelda game I don't know enough about.)
  2. V The Elder Scrolls

I could be wrong in this (my console experience is somewhat limited in these spheres) but TES 3 and 4 are the most breakable game mechanics in the history of RPGs. Sno mentioned the exponential potion glitch. Among some simpler examples are; - swimming into a wall over night - enchant duping - don't even get me started about Daedric Item Summon spells It's hilariously easy to break the TES games, as previously stated, and while temporarily amusing (100% chameleon with an elven sword that summons draemora on hit, for instance) they aren't something I'd do if actually playing through the entire game. Except during the Corprusariam. Fuck you, Yagram. You and your stupid walker.
  3. E3 2K11

I'm not saying that they have no right to be interested in video games. But some of the stuff that people cheered for in the Microsoft and Nintendo conferences was stupid. And no, I wouldn't be remotely excited. If you'd be in the chat this morning, you would have noticed I have an utter, seething dislike for Mario and Zelda, and the Wii U could possibly be the stupidest thing I've ever seen. I could be entirely wrong on the Wii U, and I almost hope I will be, but no-one can deny by this point that Nintendo gets away with a metric ton of bullshit. (Re-releasing Zelda again, and again, and again, and still making money off of it, is the primary offender there.)
  4. E3 2K11

I had a terrible realization during todays Nintendo conference (other than that I am bitter as fuck). All of the people in those conferences are either journalists, or industry people. Which means a bunch of mid-20s to late-whatevers just cheered for Zelda and Pokemon like a clutch of retarded baby birds screaming for a worm. Argh. Someone find a cure for cynicism please.
  5. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

I'm not entirely sure where Artosis and Tasteless went from being incredibly annoying for me, to the best commentators ever (almost a good year ago now, mind) but I really do enjoy their stuff. Banter and all.
  6. V The Elder Scrolls

Yeah, just like the character, regardless of class or race, is the False Nevarine in Morrowind, you're the last Dragonborn in Skyrim, regardless.
  7. V The Elder Scrolls

Uh, incorrect. They've already said 11 races. Excuse me, 10. On character creation: “The only option you are given is what you look like” and your race. Each race has certain powers, so this decision is not purely cosmetic. There are 10 races in all. “After that it’s all what you play. we want to minimise the initial decision point when you start the game.” http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/18/skyrim-skills/
  8. E3 2K11

I would recommend "re-defining ________" in that list as well.
  9. V The Elder Scrolls

It looked pretty heavily edited to me on the stream.
  10. Far Cry 3

    Reganomics.
  11. Terraria

Skeletron will wreck your shit. End of discussion. You need some serious gear/firepower to deal with him solo, and it's usually done in a group. Thankfully, once he's cleared on a world, that's it, he's gone. Also, yes. What you should really do is dig down to the "stone layer" of the map (about 800 feet on a small map, if you have a depth meter) and fight skeletons until you get a hook. Then At which point, go into the Corruption. Go into the very first chasm you find and there should be a shadow orb very close to the surface. Now you have two options. If you've beaten a boss (you've beaten Cthulhu in this instance) and you have a suitable opulent house, ergo, bigger than a room with a table and chair, make it maybe twice as large; a dryad will move in. You might also have a demolitionist by now. Either buy dynamite from the demoman, or purification powder from the dryad. Dynamite will blow up the ebon stone to allow you at the orb, purification powder will turn it into normal stone so you can mine it. Break the orb with a hammer. Do this two more times. Enjoy.
  12. Terraria

You need. . .well. You don't need to travel to the edge of the map in order to beat the game. You can totally skip the Dungeon (always spawned at one edge of the map or the other) and just go straight to hell with Molten/Shadowscale gear. That said, for a personal world that you actually want to do things in (build, dungeon, fight bosses) I'd recommend a small world. For mining meteors and stuff, I'd recommend a large, as there are more . Once you get a bunch of the movement items, even Large worlds only take a few (being relative, a few is 10 with movement items, large worlds take almost 25 minutes sometimes to cross at first starting the game) minutes to cross.
  13. XCOM returns

So I've been belting my way through X-COM: Enforcer recently, just to see, well, how one might do an X-COM shooter. It's a thing. By which I mean, it's actually highly enjoyable, but it's solidly just action-action-action where-as I imagine the new one will be all plot-exposition and 1950s. Still, it's raised my interest a tiny bit, though not enough to actually come around on this. Thoughts to follow in RCVG, soon-ish.
  14. Dawn of War 2

My assumption is that I had a credit card somewhere without realizing it, because checking my email reveals that someone bought a $70 and a $60 package of MS Points. And naturally, since I don't own an XBox, and have never payed for MS Points on that account, it was marked fraudulent and my account was locked down. Argh. Also, not sure why I thought JC2 was GFWL. Still, it means I'll never finish Batman again.
  15. Terraria

And because the above post is too damn long. John Walker of RPS plays Terraria and makes words about it.
  16. Dawn of War 2

I would, except my GFWL account with DoW2, Batman, JC2 and probably a few other things is locked out. . . Not happy about that.
  17. Both of your, mine and I'm sure thousands if not millions of others hopes are answered on day 1. http://www.gog.com/en/news/new_release_wing_commander_privateer http://www.gog.com/en/news/new_release_dungeon_keeper E: Oh no. . .oh gods. . .you won't hear from me for months when SMAC releases. . .
  18. Batman: Arkham City

Well when the character in question is both, it just gets weird. Or some other idiotic excuse.
  19. Batman: Arkham City

I may have said it before, but the Corps is the only comic continuity I pay attention to, so I know all those. Just, you know, Catwoman is sort of ubiquitous. I'd also never actually heard her name (I've heard/read most of the real names of most major DC/Marvel heroes at one point or another) so it just strikes me as odd.
  20. Batman: Arkham City

    Catwoman has a name?
  21. E3 2K11

After the absolute wreck (with broken bottles and babies no less) that was the Microsoft E3 conference last year, how could I not watch them? Comedy gold mines.
  22. Batman: Arkham City

Tangentially related: What the christ? (I liked the music so I went looking for it. What I was thinking, I'm not sure.) -TTPGAy5H_E
  23. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

Here's a question. Considering the source material of this picture, and that we're all here for the same reason (wizards are the Citizen Kane of games), why is this not some kind of smiley?
  24. Batman: Arkham City

Ladies and Thumbs, gratuitous ass-shots! Also, Catwoman is playable. (I do wish they'd stop doing that shit.) XzXqNZEL5Fc
  25. E3 2K11

At least The Final Destination 5 isn't Final De5tination. But Thief 4 is still Thie4, or whatever, so I have issues with this naming scheme. Plus it's lazy. (I'm not really angry about, I just hadn't gotten mad at anything yet today. )
