  1. General Video Game Deals Thread

I couldn't think of any other place to put this so. . . I just looked at the Steam "Coming Soon" tab and weeped, openly, at how many games are coming out in the next two and a half months. Argh.
  2. Recently completed video games

Years after I purchased it on GamersGate, I've beat Kings Bounty. Chris has already gone over most of it, from the grinding required in later portions to the fantastic writing and absolutely crazy world, but all-in-all I found it lacking in many places. There were plenty of cool quests (marry your wife, also a zombie!) and the units were interesting, but you ended up using the same ones past certain points in an area. Also, that giant godsdamned turtle can go screw itself. Arggggggh.
  3. Movie/TV recommendations

Someone might have recommended this prior to me but The Black Death, starring some kid, but actually starring Sean Bean, is pretty neat. The characters are all likeable/hateable, but could do with some more fleshing out. The combat scenes are done in shaky cam, as befits indie films (or you shall be cast out!), but is followable, for the most part. The shakycam in general is a bit. . .too shaky? Can that be a thing? And the acting is a bit off in places, but is, in general, surprisingly good. Recommended.
  4. I didn't bother to make arrows for it, so it's supposed to be that both "No!" and "Yes I'm prone" lead to "Blindly throw grenades" *Shrug* I figured it got the point across. And yeah, the only reason I haven't put more time into RO1 is the terrible learning curve of doom. And since I enjoy realism, WW2 shooters and a lot of the ideas they're implementing. . . It'll probably be one of my staple games, and my go-to shooter for a few years to come. I'm certainly done with the Call of Duty series, and BF3 is shiny but. . .I'm not sure if it's anything more than that.
  5. I'm probably going to stick with Red Orchestra 2 for my next few years of FPS fare, it looks like. While I have really enjoyed Battlefield in the past (primarily 1942 and 2142, the others have never 'grabbed me') I'm not sure I really want to go back to the land of the prone flowchart. What do I mean by that? (Hell, I dislike it so much I went to the trouble of making a terrible MSPaint flowchart.)
  6. The threat of Big Dog

Fixed that for you. Wasn't fear-mongering enough.
  7. Life

Drunk logic is best logic. But no, the old bit was mainly sparked by digging around my profile on this here forum and realizing, "Wait. . .I may feel like I'm 57, but I'm definitely only 27" Still, with health issues, sometimes I just feel way past my age. Thanks for the kind words guys, now if one of you knows a reliable hangover cure. . .
  8. Life

Damn Miffy, that's a run of luck alright, certainly not the good kind. Hope everything clears up. Though I have to say that I don't think I've ever had that kind of landlord/lady that actually gives a rats ass. Fair warning: Self-pitying malaise follows Sitting here a week off from the anniversary of the death of my fiance, drinking a 19-year single malt scotch, realizing that most of the music I enjoy was made before I was born is making me feel incredibly old. I suppose in a way, it's the best way to cap off one of the better days I've ever had. Though as usual, Thumbs makes everything a little brighter. Cheers all.
  9. Books, books, books...

They want to (immense spoiler if you haven't read it) . Again, we'll see, and both of your ideas could be possible, but I have. . .low expectations. (Then again, I had low expectations for HBOs GoT to be any good and I was utterly riveted by that, so. . .)
  10. Books, books, books...

Wow, that's. . .terrifying news. I really enjoyed American Gods, despite a problem or two within the story, and I'm not sure how well one could do a TV series. A movie, sure. Hmm. . .we'll see, as always.
  11. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

I have to give him points for the tag line, it's an interesting point.
  12. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

. . .Off to kill myself, don't wait up. :(:(:(:(:(:(
  13. Fallout: New Vegas

I would strongly recommend waiting until Sunday to take advantage of that. Since this is a Bethesda thing, and they've already done Quake/Doom and TES, Fallout will probably be on an even bigger sale.
  14. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

I actually slowly clapped upon seeing that picture Subbes, which I'm pretty sure qualifies me for a Horrible Person card. I've seen most of these (giraffe on head, weird kid, etc) but this one got me chuckling in public.
  15. Feminism

Abandon ship! Rats and cheese first! (What the hell happened in here whilst I slept?)
  16. Collector's/Special Editions

Definitely only 150 dollars. I freaked out a little when I saw your post, then realized that was mildly insane.
  17. Feminism

I'll be the first to admit I'm not much into the blonde bombshell type (No, Scarlette Johanason is not the hottest thing this side of Mars, shut up, etc) but come on Muerte. A little Linkage never hurt anyone. (Oh gods, look what I've done. Excuse me, off to vomit that pun up.)
  18. Obligatory comical YouTube thread

    Whatthechrist.
  19. Unnecessary Comical Picture Thread

I'm concerned not only by your double-post, Thunder, but your changing emphasis between them.
  20. Rage

Nolan Godsdamned North everybody! I may pick it up, but I've already spent a large amount of my gaming budget for coming days, and Skyrim just went up for pre-order.
  21. Books, books, books...

About there, yeah. Maybe a little further. I just felt like ADWD fell a little short of his typical style for a couple chapters. As for Dresden Files, I'm three books behind, and I already feel like the series is a bit long in the the tooth. I still thoroughly enjoy it (to the point of picking up Butcher's Codex Alera series, though I haven't read them yet) so we'll see. Since I don't have anything on the immediate horizon (LYYYYYNCH!) I'll probably catch up with Dresden. Though I do need to read The Crippled God as well, few months late on that. Hmm. . .
  22. Books, books, books...

So how about that A Dance with Dragons? Timeline of reading: :tup::tup:
  23. VVVVVV 2.0!

Gave VVVVVVV a try. Got to the Tomb of Mad Carew, gave up. Both not enjoying the music and being terrible at platformers/anything requiring split-second finger dexterity means I'll never beat this game. Ah well. (Though upon introspection, I can play the piano masterfully, so maybe it's a "where I'm looking =/= what my fingers are doing" disconnect. Whatever.) (On the other hand, I'm thoroughly enjoying AYIM, so maybe it's Mario I don't enjoy vs say. . .what other thinking-platformers are there?)
  24. Dungeons of Dredmor

I imagine many people have wanted to give roguelikes a shot, and while Dwarf Fortress sort of qualifies, I can definitely see why someone might be turned away. http://store.steampowered.com/app/98800 - Graphical Interface, and point-and-click to boot. - Randomly generated levels, loot and enemies - 36(?) skills to choose from, from Vampirism to Mathemancy. - Stab dudes, take loot, level up. You want more from life? Did I mention it's 5 bucks and you'll probably never beat it? I just spent far too long on the first level of the dungeon, got to the second and promptly got my face kicked in. I was a warrior-type fellow but running Vampirism. Vampirism doesn't allow you to eat food, but you can drink potions. As such, the only way to get health is to hit things and then explode ("eat") their corpses, so I got into a situation with very low health and it just went poorly. Ah well, Fun. I'll do a proper write-up later (today or tomorrow) when I've had sleep and haven't been sick for a half week. (Top Score: 5524, Level 2) Oh, and this. pyTfUnnxZV4
  25. Feminism

No, I get it, it still bothers me. As with many things, I can't properly articulate exactly what I want to get across here (I've been sitting here for a good 20 minutes trying), so I'll just let it go. Hell, this entire discussion bothers me for various (some spurious, some not) reasons. That's mostly my "humanity is stupid" kicking in though. I'll go back to my corner.
